Tried to make me pay for a new web domain that was simuilar to mine and asked if I wanted to buy the registration.
I suspect they were scamming me and were very rude on the phone

Yep they are calling around. Just received the call, same story. Stay away!!

claimed that they could register domain we already have and then tie up domain name for 10 years and I'd have to buy it off them. total scam. avoid.

Scam artists - tell them to f*ck off!

They just called our company to stating that an individual was interested in buying a version of our domain in .info and .biz. I was suspicous and asked here why didnt the person just go direct to a website and purchase the domains in question, then she started stuttering. Scam

Also called us, they claim to be based at 27 Old Gloucester Street in London, but I believe that is a virtual office location as about 20 companies have that address.

Lots of scam companies use 27 Old Gloucester Street as their virtual address, a few of whom specialise in shady "call protection" activities. Some of them are discussed on one of the TAPA scam threads on here:

They make exaggerated claims about the effectiveness of their service and may even suggest that TPS does not work.

TPS is the only official Opt Out service that companies are required to abide by under the UK law and that is regulated by Ofcom and enforced by the Information Commissioners Office (ICO).
