I worked for Infoserve some time ago and my account of then is not particularly positive.
JN pointed out that Infoserve have a contract with Yahoo and can remove free listings at any time. The contract they have is a tender which means it is a contract of limited duration and and is freely open for negotiation after the time expires. The contract is for Yahoo Local only and thay are in no way 'Calling on BEHALF of Yahoo' as Yahoo have already been paid by infoserve; the company are merely using the Yahoo name as a carrier to increase perceived reputability for themselves.
Infoserve CAN remove the free listings, but as you will have free listings all over the internet it's no great loss.
As for Google the same applies - they have their City Visitor site on Google and that's it. They use the big names for credibility (and sometimes deceptive) reasons.
Please note that Infoserve (during my time 08-09) do NOT have a facility to see how many visitors your site attracted. They DO have a facility that tells the popularity of a search term, but this is not the same thing so please don't be misled. However they WILL tell you that a large number of people searched for YYY at ZZZ even if the search term is not that popular.
When an order is agreed and card details are accepted, the details are not punched directly into a computer, but rather written on a sheet of paper with around 10 -12 other callers at the same table and then passed onto another who takes it upstairs and gives them to admin who will process the details. Not exactly the most secure procedure.
The pricing structure is not rigid and varies depending on the managers mood and how the days targets are proceeding. The managers also encourage you to stretch truths and manipulate conversations by using tall tales and fictional statistics mixed with real ones.
If you use this company you WILL get a featured lisiting that is prominent, but question and ask for proof of their claims. Even do some research yourself. For £150+ there are better ways to advertise.

i had alot of calls of this company after doing some research i found that the guy calling (JAMIE NEILSON) is a crook and has convictions for harasment and possesion of drugs. what type of company is this, dont they do ploice checks, people are handing over credit card details to these villains. what is the world coming to.

Although they *DO* provide the listings for Yahoo! when they phoned they did not say this, they said they were Yahoo!

They called me at 5pm Wednesday, I missed the call but they left a message.
The message consisted of 3 minutes of police sirens, I don’t know what that was all about !!

They are from Infoserve, They are a bit pushy to sell you premium listing on Yahoo Local and City Visitor.  I am looking to increase my business so listed my site www.pc-point.co.uk on both.

I am getting numerous call a day from this number, i have not answered as i thought it would be someone trying to sell me adverting space on the internet. For some strange reason i tryed the number in google serch just to see if it came up where it was listed to and it gave me this site. I am so glad i didn't answer after all i have read on here. They are obviously not doing Yahoo! any favours by harrasing businesses.

This number is a company called Info Serve, as far as I’m aware they deal with Yahoo local Listings in the UK, (Basically Maps). Though, at first introduction said they were from yahoo, rather than Infoserve.
Their first call was to confirm my listing Request (I was expecting the call as it is clearly stated on submission that they would call to confirm my details). They also offered me ‘sponsored’ advertising in addition to my free listing. They showed me a number of working (Live) examples of what they do.  Seems Genuine enough if a bit pricey for me.

This number calls our phone approx 6 or 7 times a day .... i have never spoken to them as the answer phone cuts in and i police the calls that i receive to eliminate the pests.  This "company" must have horrendous telephone bills.  I understand from recent news reports that the government are to take companies like this to task ... the sooner they do this the better.  That way i can get on with my life instead of inputting all the nuisance calls into computer to check who they are..!!  I too am on the TPS and like others who have listed a report - does not mean a thing ... leading me to wonder why we have the TPS at all..

this number keeps calling me but now there claiming to be city listing i picked up the phone but i was on my way out so they said they will ring me tomorrow.. but thanks to all the comments iv seen above i have alot of amo to fire to them so this will be fun. i will update tomorrow after they have rang as i recored all my phone calls and i will post a link to the MP3 of the recoreding lol

Very rude call centre claiming to be yahoo. I think it is a scam. Beware!

Followed "AJ" advice to call customer services head office and requested removal from their records.  Just wait and see now....

Dear myk baxter, you also used to work for them didn't you and then went ablagging in dubai. Both you and your best m8 jamie nielson blagg big time to support your gambling, cocaine habits and visits to prostitutes dont you. Trouble is all sales companies set sales targets and the more savvy business people become toward internet advertising the harder it will be for salespeople to hit those targets. 3-4 years ago people new nothing and co like infoserve capitalised on ignorance and made a killing. salespeople like the ones mentioned on here Jamie ,gavin and all the top salespeople will pretty much say anything to get the sale. The company directors know this and gavin lied all the to sell and was well known for it. didnt stop the company keeping him because he brought in a lot of money for them.
Just remember though people the average salesperson there is honest they get paid around 12-15.000k pa and if hit targets get maybe 2-300 comm . they are under pressure daily to get those targets and most were lied to at interview about earning potential and carrer opps.

My advice get yourself TPS registered as for every offense it can get companies a 2g fine if they call. The best way to get yourself high up on google locally is google maps, when building your website make sure it has a good title Ie for a plumber title should read along lines of ,

plumber halifax, boiler repairs , central heating engineers halifax, no more than about 80 characters

description no more than around 200 characters
a snippet saying what you do including co name and  main thing you do and location at beggining

plumber halifax ----------- and so on

make sure you have good keyword paragraghs and alt tag images and heading s should have h tags ie h1 h2 h3 and so on. also use google developer tools and adwords if needed

Just registered a business with Hotfrog and this number rang once within 3 minutes of completing the registration. No time to answer and now believe my number is in an auto-dialer!!!!
