I received this call - and he started to ask for details. I don't do this - even to my own bank.
My bank tried this a few times - and I pointed out the madness  of them asking me for passwords -
when I have no clue who is on the other end of the line.

In this case it is easy - I do not have a Lloyds account. The guy is persistent and quite good.
But if a bank has a problem with you - they'll send a letter.

    I did 1471 - and got back 01273 743 574
which I am going to send to Lloyds and hope they actually do something.

Massive scam, AVOID! Man was Indian and LLoyds don't have call centers in India as far as I know. He confirmed name and then asked for account details straight away... such a bad scam, almost as believable as those Nigerian lottery emails.

This is a genuine lloydstsb credit card collection number - however I also had a huge argument with them for ringing me and then asing me to provide them with details.

    Concerned
I received a suspicious call (from 01273 743574) stating they were from Lloyds TSB and had a personal business matter to discuss and could I verify my DOB. When I said I rather not he provided the year I was born but I insisted I get a phone number and would verify. He said his name was Jonathan and I should call 0845 600 6393 or call in to any Lloyds TSB branch! I was suspicious so I searched on internet and was relieved I didn't give any details, something didn't quite ring true.

Dont know if this call is genuine or not. Explained to the caller that I will not give out my personal details until they have confirmed who I am speaking with and I suggested they give me the last 3 digits of my sort code. They were unwilling or unable to do this so instead i asked for a phone number where i could phone back and speak to someone. Was given this number, but on calling it it SAYS it is Lloyds TSB and then I cant do anything until i have given my credit card number. Sounds very dodgy to me.

This is not a bogus number and relates to LTSB Credit Card collections.
However I did not give my details or call them back on this number I dialled direct to LTSB customer service (the number on my card) and asked them to put me through.  The number is also on your statement and the LTSB website.
If in doubt never give your details but call a number you know is genuine and ask for more details.  You can trust then what you tell them is covered by DPA and FSA regulations and therefore your account details are protected

    They've started with me now.

But they dont have my name, its one of a Dr with some (presumably african) unpronouncable name.

I keep getting proper arsey with them.
Considering this has been happening for what looks like 5 years im surprised nobody has stopped them.

I like to string them along by putting on different accents and making them waste as much time as possible.

If your ex hasn't updated the number on his account they will continue to hound you the best thing you can do is to answer the call and tell them it's definitely not the contact number for him. then, dep on how well you get on or if he is always straight with you, you either give them his current no or ring him and insist he does! this is a genuine collections call and an account (usually credit card) has to be either very seriously overdue or regular miss payments. trust me, they are hounding me too-unfortunately mine's a bit more complex-it's in my name! (more fool me) he had the cash, kept up the payments for several years (even tho i begged him to just pay it off when he had chance) and now refuses to pay it and has missed several payments. it is defo not a scam tho ):

Just tell them there is nobody by that name at your no and that they have either been given a false number or a number that used to belong to that person-who has either had a credit card or loan and not paid it (mobile and landline co's can recycle a disused no after as little as 6 months-apparently legal. have had to change my landline twice after being hounded incessantly with calls for a person whose address wasn't even in my town. one co asked if i was at that address of course i said no and did'nt say where i was-they were genuine debt collectors as well not scammers) also threaten to report them if they continue to bother you and say that your calls are monitored!

Got same message on the number which I rang got a woman with a strong indian accent - went to local lloyds bank who rang the credit card dept who did not know anything about the call. Advice from lloyds is don't ring the number but visit your own branch and report the number.

DO NOT TRUST THIS NUMBER!!!!!!Got a call from this number asking to confirm my name date of birth, caller claimed to be from lloyds tsb regarding a personal business matter even though lloyds and tsb are two seperate companies now, I ended the call, contacted tsb and they told me that they never call customers like that and it was definitely a phishing scam and advised me to block the number from my phone.

My husband has been called on many occasions by this number at least 1 call a day to his mobile and the house phone, we either ignore it or tell them we are not giving any details over the phone.  I too have phoned Lloyds and they said it was not one of there numbers.  My account has been checked and no logs or transactions have been tagged as suspicious.

Have just received a letter from 'Bank of Scotland' with this number to call asking me to pay off an account totaling £891.57. Neither I nor my parents (who are my current care-of address) have ever banked or had a credit card with Bank of Scotland... so we are assuming this is now being incorporated into a mail scam too!
The letter itself is highly bogus, looks like it's been thrown together fairly quickly in word - and for some reason the most large, bold text has been used at the end to inform that if I would like the letter in Braille or large print, 'please ask us', the bank logo and name have been lifted straight from the website and pasted in, as well as various bits of small-print that look highly dubious...
It would seem to me that this is NOT an official number, or even the number for a physical (actually existing) telephone line but part of a telephone calling system, which, unfortunately, could be built into the building occupied by the official call centre but could also be used by any other business in the property and only needing to change a single digit to redirect to a different desk or even room across the building...
In the UK this is an illegal use of a telephone system, who knows what it could be in the country it is being practiced in...
It would be very useful if Lloyds TSB could confirm once and for all if this number IS or IS NOT one of their official collection agencies, though...
