Had a call from an Indian man purporting to be from some virus support centre to do with Microsoft. Asked for my husband by name when told he was currently out at work asked if I was Mrs xxxx and had I access to his pc as he had got viruses on it. If I was currently sat by the pc I could follow his instructions on how to deal with the problem whilst he talked me through it - as it was far too complicated for me to be able to understand if I just wrote it down and tried to do it later! Immediately suspicious as I am the pc expert in our house and used to work in IT. Told caller pc was not switched on, was asked if I could go and turn it on to which I said no not at the moment. At this caller asked if I was busy currently - said yes - to which he quickly said that he would call back later and then promptly put the phone down. We had had a call from this number last week whilst we were on holiday and it registered on our answerphone but no message was left - surprising if it was legitimately from Microsoft and we were supposed to be at great risk because of viruses!

Hey i just got one of these calls but they knew my name!!! Is that not a bit strange??? Any advice???

Called my home phone tonight, talking aload of crap down the phone, upset my mum about the who thing as she dusnt understand computers, but they told her we had been accessing files we should have. I instantly took the phone, to listen to an indian bloke, whom when i questioned what company he was from said he had already to my mother. I slammed the phone down and googled the number. These people are sick! Its criminal!!

I expect not, they probs pulled your name out of a database somewhere on the internet. They knew my name to, but it was all aload of rubbish. These people need to be stopped!

Got into a long conversation with just such a caller and pretended I couldn't find the Start button.  
It wasn't until he quizzed me about my keyboard that he twigged that I had an Apple Mac which doesn't work that way!
Nasty business but I had a little fun at his expense.

091618 just called me and went dead when I answered. Suspected it was time wasters but didn't want the phone ringing to wake my baby.

All of these cold calls are coming from call centres in India.  If you read the following you will see that many of the people involved are actually criminals and fraudsters selling and buying lists of intended victims.

Caller: Indian Call Centres

Just had a call from this number but no one answered and just stopped my husband from doing 1471.
Now I have read this board I had a call I answered a few months ago saying about viruses but put phone down as have good security and had no ;problems and realised it was a scam. Number imprinted in my brain now but is it possible to report number I rang microsoft last time but they had nothing in place.We are not with BT and Virgin are not easy to get hold of on things like this.

I just had a call saying the same thing, but from an Indian sounding man.   The worrying thing is that he knew my name.

silent call from 091618, had several lately, also other silent calls or continuous tone - number withheld.

last year had call from Asian man, sounded professional, said he-been forwarded info that I'd been in contact re  email problems and knew my name.  thought genuine as had just been emailing my website providers re this.  he asked me to go to pc and type in various stuff, during which he said my stuff was coming up on their pc so he could fix problem.  in middle of this was unhappy as seemed like i was going to have to pay and some things didnt add up.  questioned him further and he wasn't who i'd thought at all.  immediately told him where to go and shut down.  was themn freaked out as he i had bank details, passwords etc on my pc.   was a pc co from bradford, appeared to be legit, good website but pc world said they were know for bad practice and cleaned up my pc and installed norton 360 plus anti malware and spyware progs.

We have been called several times a day for weeks now.  They say we have a virus on our computer. As I know it is a scam so I just say I don't have a computer.
How can we get them to stop as it's very annoying?

I got called back after telling them they were scammers and got called an english [***]... nice of them to take the trouble.

Mumbai "Michael" just rang from the Maintenance Department - obvious scam.

Got a call from this number (caller display) and when I answered they hung up. I've had these before and they say I have a problem with my computer and I say no I don't thank you and hang up. Not sure what they are after but at the least very irritating.

Phoned today at 8.42am - the usual rubbish from a hard to understand man who said that my computer was not running properly and I had to fix all the problems I had with it.   He rang off after a long conversation.

Had repeated calls from this number - wanting to talk about my computer - I have previously asked how they know I've got a computer etc etc and who are they and they got fed up and hung up.  Recently started trying us again - today my husband said he hadn't got a computer to which he got 'Oh my God!', he then asked how they'd got our number and they hung up.
Surely someone in authority should be able to stop this continued harrassment of innocent people?
Please, please anybody that gets a call, don't give any details and either ask lots of questions or terminate the call.

Received a call from this number. Did not pick up the phone.

I have opted with TalkTalk which is FREE, my provider to show who is calling my number on my telephone small screen, if I don't like the number I don't pick up the phone.

Another number to watch is ones that start with 0141, they come from Scotland and they are hawking engery companies for switch deals, I have filed a complaint to OFFGEM.

Another tip is to live your answerphone on, these automated calls if it picks you number and cannot get you, they try for another
