I have just had this call as well - i told her - bearing in mind that im a Microsoft Certified engineer - when i asked for more details - they put the phone down. She sounded like she was calling from india or something.
They are trying to gain remote access to your pc - highly illegal and they need stopping now.
    Hang em!!!

That was an unpleasant start to the day - bloke was very convincing - even in the light of my questions about data protection and surprise that he couldn't tell me which Windows version I was running, despite these supposed 'error reports' he'd been receiving. They gave their number as 02081440285. F'in fibbers.

Don't forget to report these crims when you get called:

    https://secure.consumerdirect.gov.uk/reportascam.aspx

It will help Consumer Direct build up a profile for that particular scam.

As above, on my mobile (but I redirect from home, so it may have been to home)

Male, Indian accent; when I asked what company they were, repeated "The windows support". Asked to speak to his supervisor, but he was "on another call". Asked for information about their company "to report them to the authorities" - he went quiet, but didn't hang up. Eventually I got fed up and hung up myself.

Tried to report to ICSTIS - their website is broken at present!
    Reported to Consumer Direct (RIP)

just had a call from 091618 from an indian lad saying he was from the windows support centre in london, i replied i was busy, which i was, running a garage and he started going into one about he was busy and didnt appreciate me saying i was busy. he was very irate, i couldnt understand most of the things he was saying as he was speaking far too load on the phone and quite upset at the prospect that upon cold calling someone with a very poor attempt at getting some computer details that they might actually not give a toss who he was or what he wanted and then hung up on me, how rude.

please could all you scammers out there just do one, or at least watch the real hustle for a reasonably good scam idea.

Male, African accent, calling to advise that my computer had downloaded malicious files and that he would assist in removing them. When asked for his credentials, faltered and hung up.
    • Caller: "Windows" (could not quote his company or own name when asked)

We get a call from 091618 nearly every day. The African or Indian person tells us our computer has got viruses or other problems. We know this is a scam so put the phone down. We have excellent security which we pay for so obviously don't believe them. How can we stop these calls? We have registered our number with the Telephone Preference Service.

Just had a very long conversation with them. They claim that they work for Windows Support Department, they would tell me how they got my telephone number, or respond to any of my questions trying to prove who they were, and why I should trust them.

In the end the guys tried to route of asking why I trust a cook at a restaurant that I go to. Then when I said that I wasn't willing to do anything more unless he could prove to me that he was from Windows, either by telling me which department he's from so that I could look through the Microsoft website for the department and call them back.

Finally he tried asking why he should believe I'm not related to or working for Osama Bin Laden. As you can imagine I hung up the phone.
