- BethIndian caller (caller ID stated name of Sark Saradwindu). He stated their company was notified I had downloaded a virus and he was dispatched to help me deal with it. He wanted to verify if I was online, what type of computer (laptop or desktop) then wanted me to press the Windows Button +R. I was suspicious because about 30 mins earlier, I clicked on a link in a Google search result which activated a Security Warning from my Anti-virus. I exited without accessing the site. So I insisted on knowing what result would happen and he became aggressive and said I would see the result and he would then discuss my options. I hung up and he called back from the above number, which I did not answer.
Immediated shut down my computer, ran Anti-Virus then searched for Windows Best Help scam.... sure enough, it was.- Caller: Windows Best Help
- lostcosinmt replies to kaI received the same phone call last night. He said that my computer was sending him error messages. He asked me to turn on my computer and he will walk with me on what to do. I hung up on him. I never have had a software company call me before regarding a problem. I usually have to call them. The thing that got me is I was on my computer when he called, so if my computer is sending him messages, then why didn't he already know that? Anyway, I will no longer answer any calls from strange numbers.
- KittyMy 91-yeat-old mother-in-law gets these calls all the time. She has never touched a computer, let alone owned one. She has no idea what they're talking about, but it upsets her, as she thinks she's done something wrong. I would love to be able to stop these calls. Caller ID said "Name not Found."
- JesusCaller with thick Nigerian accent said there was a probem with my windows operating system. I told him "wrong number" he then asked what don't you have a computer? then you don't qualify...then hung up

- Randy PrudenHe is getting call stating they are Windows support center and he snapped on the rep that called and then they hung up.
- SylviaThey keep calling here despite my telling them not to call. Bad foreign accent!!! Today I told them repeatedly not to call and I was going to contact the police because they keep calling back as soon as I hang up. One time they even blocked the number. Yes, I cussed at them!!! And then I get another call where this jerk is threatening me!!! They called me 5 or 6 times in a 2 minute time frame. I told them they are breaking the law by doing this, but they just kept on calling. When asked why they were calling they wouldn't tell me without going into a you need to calm down crappola routine. We do not pay our phone bill so telemarketers or scammers can have access to us. If what is being posted is true about them trying to scam people about their windows "warranty", then they need to be tracked down and arrested, put out of business, and maybe even deported!!!
It doesn't seem to be any good to be on a no call list if it is a cell phone calling you!!! - LauraWas babysitting some kids today at their parents house. Phone rang a guy with a heavy accent said he was from Windows and their computer was sending them error messages. Their computer has not been on all day and I told him such. He told me that I had to turn it on I told him I was at someone else's house and I wasn't going to mess with their computer. He then hung on up on me. Caller Id said name not found.

- GaryGot the call today a few hours ago. Couldn't understand him very well because of background noise, bad connection, and thick accent. He mentioned something about being from Microsoft and getting error messages from my computer, and that I had a hacker and virus. I told him to call me three hours later when I'd be at home. He didn't call, but I got a message from my Microsoft Essentials Security software that I needed to clean up my computer. I clicked the Cleanup button, and my computer started doing things, but then I got another message saying that a computer program wanting to be downloaded was not normal, and there was no indication of who authored the program. I immediately shut down the computer, as it seemed like my hard drive was being accessed.
What bothers me is that I have been having internet issues for a month or so, getting an error message "Internet connection problem" which usually results in a 5-second delay in connecting to a link. I contacted my ISP about it, and they did some diagnostics and said I had a virus. My virus software has not said anything about viruses to me. I'm worried that these same people have limited hacking ability, and are then using their telephone scam to glean grateful (please fix my computer!) victims of money. I wonder if this followup automatic error message on the computer is a more advanced version of their hacking in which they need my concurrence to execute, but that I would do it because they had called me earlier and I was expecting some kind of "help" from them. It's scary, and I'm worried about having been hacked.- Caller: Microsoft
- BrianI've received 6 calls from these jokers since January, always with the same call-center like noise in the background, and here are their call records. I haven't seen any use of an alternate number:
"+12020113341","2013-01-28 08:32:55"
"+12020113341","2013-02-05 07:59:53"
"+12020113341","2013-02-27 06:12:01"
"+12020113341","2013-03-05 07:27:57"
"+12020113341","2013-03-23 12:42:08"
"+12020113341","2013-04-08 07:16:27"
And while I could throw them on my phone system's blacklist (one of the pro's of running a PBX out of your house), I usually just spin up one of my more esoteric operating systems and let them try to figure it out over the phone. It's really good for a laugh. The best so far has been today, having the caller learn that I'm looking at a Joyent SmartOS login prompt at the console and calling me an idiot for not having a functioning mouse. Unfortunately, these guys rarely get too far with me on the phone. I think I'll start recording these calls and screencapping video from vmware for a short youtube series. Either that or I'll introduce them to snapshots as a more cost effective way for them to solve these problems for their clients.
For the lest technically savvy readers here: Don't talk to strangers who ask you do to things to your computer. This could be potentially be very effective if you're not aware of how things actually work.- Caller: Failed to identify

- sargeCalled but no one there. Have received calls from "windows" before. String them along for awhile then ask they stay on for just a few more minutes so trace can be completed. They hang up.
- FedupGet a whistle and keep it by your phone. When these scam artists call, blow the whistle loudly into the phone. I get so many of these calls, I am thinking of upgrading to an air horn.
- KelleyLynI was called a litle while ago and they told me to go to the computer and log in. There were people trying to hack into my computer. Kept him talking for a few minutes to find out how he kew this. I told him that I have a computer tech that lives in my house, and I didn't need his help. He hung up. Called back saying we got disconnected. I had the phone on speaker so my family listened to his language. When we started laughing he started to get rude and obsene.I asked to speak to his supervisor and the rudness just got worse so I hung up. They called back and my son in law answered the phone and they wanted to talk to me and he told them I was unavailable. The man then threatened him with bodily harm. We did notify the police at that time and got some information from them.

- LollerCopterI just got a call from these idiots too. As a programmer, builder, and web designer I feel I know my way around the computers. I've been building and fixing them for almost 20 years! This guy tried telling me that the red ALERT message for Windows Update was the key hacking method and I should be transferred to a service engineer who is "highly technical and experienced"
The thing that pissed me off was that they said "This may be tedious and too hard for you to do but to please be scroll down page". Really? STFU. Then he told me that "we have all your information here" but couldn't tell me what the next "red alert" message was that I should be looking for.- Call type: Telemarketer
- LoisbI just got a call from some woman.foreign accent.
SHE said for the past couple weeks they had been getting msgs from my computer it was infected. AND I spoke up and told her Yes I been getting about 50 of these phone calls about my computer also and They better remove my name from their calling list or else.. she hung up and wouldn't talk anymore.
HOPE I am rid of them for good. THEY conned my husband into doing this while I was not home one day..but he knows now not to let them do this again. - AnnieThis is my work number so I thought the 202 area code was from the US and not a telemarketer. I picked up and was told I had all kinds of viruses. I hung up. They called right back, this time a "supervisor". He said, "what are you looking at right now, you have a virus". I said I don't even have windows, I have a Mac." He hung up on me.

- Rebequita replies to MG| 1 replyI received a call from this number also but I knew his scam and hung up on him right away.
- Amy replies to RebequitaI got this call at 730am this morning, which annoyed me to begin with. He explained who he was but I said that's odd because I don't even have a Windows computer (we have 3 Macs in our house). He promptly hung up on me.
- HFCThank you all for this. I was worried that I was getting hacked...I didn't get connected with the technician and I told them, but they got my ID number :( Is that really bad?
