They told me they were a 'Microsoft technical department' and that they were getting a lot of dumps from my computer and that they could show them to me.  Insisted that they knew because I was a registered Microsoft user.  Funny, but they didn't seem to know my name and there is no association between my Microsoft registration and the number they called!!  I was very suspicious and hung up and checked this site for the number.

Caller called multiple times. I finally answered the phone and the man with the worst English dialect instructed me to go to my computer so that he could fix my problem with Microsoft.  I asked him to repeat himself and he demanded that I go to my computer. I hung up the telephone and he immediately called and demanded that I go to my computer. I could hear other people in the background. I asked him for his phone number so that I could call him back. I could hear the voice in the background tell him that he couldn't give the phone number and then he hung up. At least he hasn't called back!

Some foreigner called from this number telling me that there was a problem with my computer and telling me they was with Windows corporation. Would not tell me their name or how they had my number.  Took 3 times before they would give me a name of who they were looking for and it wasn't me. I told them they had the wrong number and that it was none of their business if I had a computer. Argued with me. When asked to speak to a supervisor I got an abrubt " *uck you" and they hung up. Tried to call the number back and it was disconnected. Came in as Ada Green on my caller id.  I was upset but I pay to keep my number private.

Recieved two calls. Called the number back and it was "disconnected". Then recieved another call later from the same number. I called Microsoft Customer Support and reported them. Maybe if Microsoft gets enough feedback from the likes, something will be done.

Unfortunately Microsoft don't give a damn about this scam.  It has been going on for years and the only thing they have done is post a warning on their website.  They are quite happy to take our money but are not prepared to use the technology they must have to put a stop to this nuisance.

Called at 8 am with horrible accent "your computer is acting up with Microsoft Windows". Told them I don't have computer with Windows operating system.  Scammers call so much I put them in my caller I'd as scammers so when they call I know who it is.  I'm calling my telephone provider to try and stop this.  If I called somebody everyday like they do I'd be in jail or in court!

A telephone call from telephone number 205-280-0212 under the name of "Green Ada" is a SCAM.  Although this is United States telephone number, the calls are really coming from some boiler room in India (in my case) or some other foreign language.  Usually the caller has a heavy accent and poor ability to speak the English language.  I received a phone call on December 11, 2010.  The caller told me he worked on behalf of Microsoft and my computer had been sending many messages of technical error so he was calling on behalf of Microsoft to help me correct my computer setup.  This sounded like a scam (and it was - see below), but I had nothing to do at the moment so I thought I would play along and see where this went.  I went through the first level caller and his "Senior Supervisor" and his "Technical Manager".  All gave American names although in strong accents.  The caller could barely speak English, the manager spoke with only a medium accent.  The manager had to undo all the steps the first level caller and "Senior Supervisor".  He had me press and hold the "Microsoft Key" and then the "R" key.  This opened the "Run" window.  Then he had me type the URL www.ammyy.com and click on OK.  This was an alternate way of opening my default browser; a way of which I was unaware, but immediately recognized.  "Ammyy" appears to be a legitimate software company that the scammers use for illegitimate purpose.  Ammyy Company sells "Remote Access Software" enabling "Remote Desktop Software and Remote Desktop Connection", designed for administrators to complete control a remote computer, including adding files and programs and downloading files.  They offer a free trial of the "Home Use" product, that the scammers want you to download so they can control your computer and steal any financial information there.  The "Manager" wanted me to click on the prominent green button to download this software.  Ammyy Company is aware of this scam, because I immediately read to myself this warning message below the button:  "ATTENTION! Please read this before giving UNKNOWN people access to your computer."  But I clicked the download button because I knew that I would have an option to block it, and a "User Account Control" popup asked "Do you want to allow this program to make changes on this computer? (AA_v3.exe from Ammyy)" .  Of course I clicked "No".  Next I closed a popup titled "Ammyy Admin v3.3 - free".  Finally Windows Firewall popped up and said it had blocked access to public and private networks.  At this point I knew this phone call was a scam and I knew their technique, so I hung up.  Then I went back and read clicked on the warning message and read this info from Ammyy Company:  "!!! If you receive a phone call claiming to be from 'Microsoft' or someone claiming to work on their behalf, telling you that you have a virus on your computer or some errors which they will help you to fix via Ammyy Admin, it is definitely a scam. ... There also might be phone calls from people presenting themselves as internet service provider technicians or any other tech support specialists."  There are instructions to tell you what to do to minimize the damage if you actually downloaded the control software and the scammers got into your computer.  You can read the whole Ammyy Security Warning and Recovery Advice at www.ammyy.com. I wasted 30 minutes of the scammers time for a no-sale.  (My time, too, but I was curious to explore.)  If everyone called led them on to a point (taking 10 minutes to "turn on" your computer, ask questions, act interested) they might be slowed down.  For safety do no click on the download arrow (your computer security might not be set to give you a cancel point).
