I received a call from 2124485501, it was a young woman who identified herself as being from NY Dept of Health and wanted to ask me questions about my health. Most questions were standard; How is my current health, whan I saw a doctor last, if I had ever been told I had High BP, High Colesterol, Depression, Anxiety, Asthma, What kind of insurance I have, my employment, education, did I use prescription pain Killers, do I inject drugs.  At the end she really wanted me to give her my info to accept a $10.00 payout for particpating or be put into a pool for a $100.00 draw but I said no so I wouldn't have to give them any more personal info.and she also wanted my e-mail but I said no.

I would get this call every night on my cell phone.  I finally answered it.  It is a survey about walking and biking (I tried telling them I did neither but they wanted to continue).  They offer $10.00 if you qualify.  If you want them to quit calling you take the survey and when they get to the question:  Do you have a cell phone?  Home phone? or both?  Answer BOTH.  Next question:  Do you use your cell phone, home phone or both.  ANSWER BOTH THE SAME.  You will not qualify and you will no longer get these calls.  (They also knew they were calling my cell phone)

They said they received my number, and name from another party that I authorized to sell my info!  I would never allow that, and do my best to read the small print! The only recent disclosure I had to accept was from Asurion, for a replacement cell phone..... Coincidence? This has to be illegal and I am on the Do not call registry!

well...I'll try to be helpful replies to Joanne
So the calls that come from this number are all surveys from a research company that is contracted to do the surveys by other organizations. Now some of the times it would be calls from Amtrak in which case most customers have put down their # and somehow indicated that they would be willing to participate is a customer service review and that may be what the caller was referencing. Sometimes companies want to do studies on their members so your numbers are produced that way. I think in general the numbers for majority of the surveys (mostly for the department of health, us department of transportation, abc/washington post, department of highway safety, ppic, pew) are generated randomly in order to survey a randomized sample of the country pursuant to unbiased research rules, and are not specifically targeting you. As a general rule, i wouldn't give out any information that could identify me but when i was called, i verified the study, and was called back to do the survey and it was pleasurable, the lady i spoke with did not push me to answer anything that i did not want to but the length of the survey was a bit longer than i had anticipated. If you get this call, however, and you just really do not want to help your government or whatever company is calling you to better their product there are some ways that you can avoid getting called back.

First of all, in general when anyone calls you as a telemarketer or surveyor, hangups don't remove your # from the auto-dialer, no matter what you say so DO NOT HANG UP, in general that will never help you. The following things will get your number removed from any sample system

1.) answer and tell them that this is a work phone- they are not allowed to call those.
2.) tell them you are a minor and this is your cell phone
3.) Tell them you have some kind of long term illness/hearing problem
4.) listen to what they want tell them your not interested let them try to convince you to do it and then still say that sounds noble but not i'm really not interested in doing this thank you.- as part of informed consent laws you do not have to do anything that you do not want to, but in order to remove your # from the sample without risking biasing research law suits, the caller must know that you know what he or she is calling about and you are not interested. (DO NOT SAY "it's not a good time", or "not interested right now" because they will call back then).
    5.)block them.
6.) ignore them (most health studies will keep calling you for a month though so you better have great resilience to put that off), also if they are calling specifically to talk to you per the wishes of the client they will keep calling until they get in touch with you.

(If you are on the national do not call registry, it doesn't matter because research companies are exempt, so basically all the do not call list does is keep people from calling you to sell you anything, and they aren't doing that so you can't make any legal case against them. In terms of calling hrs, surveys are allowed to call you until 9pm, so complaining that you've been called @ 8:59pm, will likely not help in any legal case).

i know these calls can be frustrating particularly during election season, my experiences with them hasn't been bad, so perhaps I'm not as annoyed as all the people in this forum, but I hope my post was helpful in terms of illuminating who they are, what they want, and how you can play it to not get calls again.

    have a blessed October!

I keep receiving calls from this number late in the PM. And, my cell phone # is on the Do Not Call list.
So I filed a report with the FCC.
These companies should not be calling/spamming our 'Do Not Call' numbers!
Please, everyone .... go to the FCC website and file an online report if this company keeps calling your phone number without permission!

I received a call from this number tonight.  I answered and it was a gentleman asking if i would take a survey on the "state" of California.  I took the survey, it took about 5-10 minutes.  No big deal.  If you live in California, i would advise you take the survey as well.

Received a call from this number claiming a survey from the NHSTA and paid $25.00.  When I called NHSTA - they said they don't offer paid surveys.  Scam?!

I received three of these calls - missed all of them.  Tried calling back and all I got was a rapid busy signal.  All I can say is whomever this number belongs to - he/she/they made the mistake of making harassing phone calls to the home of two NYPD detectives.
