caller id says "AARP MEMBER", caller did not leave message & we don't have memberships to aarp

Also received ROBO calls from source claiming to be United Health . Attempts to talk to a human were unsuccessful and I hung up since I refuse to respond to these unsolicited  " fishing" attempts.  After a few repeated attempts from that source a  ROBO call was received from the 1-215-653-8000 number identifying itself as AARP on  behalf of United Health. Again I was unable to raise a human to talk to.  I then called  the AARP phone and spoke to a rep. named  "Eric" who had no idea of what was going on nor could he put me in touch with anyone who might be able to explain. I then decided to dial the 215-653-8000 number myself  and was given three totally unrelated ROBO options and referred to the AARP number that I had already tried. Talk about a run around.

Terrible that your phone number can be given out when it is
a necessary item for getting insurance.  When a sick person
is sleeping it is discussing that a useless phone ringing wakes
them up.

This is not a telemarketer solicitation call.  I applied for an AARP Medicare supplement plan and the next morning they called to let me know that the application was approved.  Not necessary for then to call, because the website already told me that fact when I applied.  However, some people apply by phone or mail, so it's probably some kind of reassurance to let you know you are approved to start the medical plan.  It's a recorded message and the girl says she is Andrea, calling on behalf of AARP Medicare Advantages.

There is about a 5-6 second delay after you answer the phone BEFORE she starts speaking, so I can see how someone would think it was a scam call.

Today I received 3 calls from 215-653-8000 on my cell. I see by the posts on whocallsme.com that it is from healthcare insurance provider (reported to be either United Healthcare or Hartford marketer Catalyst 360) related to AARP. I use AARP United Healthcare Medicare Supplemental so these marketers legally may attempt to contact. I have simple rules if they're not in my cell contact listing / unidentified caller DON'T ANSWER; if no voice mail message has been lef DON'T CALL BACK; if message left is of no interest to me DON'T CALL BACK!
If they really irritate me I block their number using my iPhone function and report their number to the NO CALL LIST

Right on mama. I just turned 65 and found out exactly what you're saying. I had insurance through my employer and at 65 they cut me loose. Now "Medicare" costs be about 15 to 20 times more due to co-pays etc.

I did not answer when this unfamiliar number displayed. I will answer the next time because I signed up 3 days ago for AARP-United Healthare medi-gap insurance. Hopefully it's good news that they completed processing my paperwork.

Remove me from this robo call.   Multiple calls late late at night.  Stop, please.

This number, from Ambler, PA has been calling me at night for several nights running. Annoying and intrusive.

Yes it is the United Health / AARP number 215-653-8000 (Philadelphia).  I had engaged an insurance broker to find best supplemental plan for me ... Previous was basic a,b,c, through AETNA.  Broker recommended two options - 1) UH/AARP plan N and 2) CSI (Central States - Omaha) supplemental plan.  This robocall missed and message was silent ... no message.  I called in to see what it was and whether this was a junk robocall.  After switching to one person and another the guy in sales said indeed I had been accepted.  For any followup with UH/AARP the front door toll free number is 800-523-5800.  In my case a legitimate call.

Called at least 4 times.  No message.  If they ARE selling health insurance, I have to ask:  Who the heck buys health insurance because somebody calls THEM on the phone?

This # called, said it was AARP.  I called the # back and was told they didn't handle that account any longer #1-800-215-653-8000. Try it yourself.

Thanks to blogger Barbara, below, I called number she provided and had my number removed from telemarketers.  Number coming in on caller ID was 215653800, "AARP member".   No response when I picked up - Now blocked.  Thank you!

Correct! I would also like to encourage you to file a complaint with Do Not Call registry.  It's quick and easy, and once you've filed a complaint, it saves your info, so the second time you Lodge a complaint, you can auto fill most of the form. I know for a fact that they do pay attention, because, a couple of years ago my office was getting harrased by a Yellow Pages scam, and the FTC contacted us because of the complaints we made. We had also been receiving fake invoices demanding we pay them over $400.00 in past due charges, and they asked us to send them copies of these invoices. I don't know what action they took, but the calls and fake invoices just stopped coming.
