The automated call from this number arrived shortly before nine p.m., with no prior calls during normal working hours.  As I was away from my desk I didn't have paper or pencil handy, and the 800 number was repeated with only about a half-second's delay.

Even if this should prove to be a scam (as others have suggested), it was very amateurishly executed.  If they really wanted to extort a social security number from me [fat chance - I work in the security industry and know better], they would do better to call during normal working hours and have a live agent initiate the call to insure call-completion.

On the other hand if it should prove genuine it would serve them better if they (a) indicated the amount in question they were attempting to collect, (b) the party they were trying to reach, (c) the firm they were collecting for, and ensure that a mechanism was in place whereby the called party had a ready means to note the number and call back.  Calling from a number for which no Direct-In-Dial (DID) is possible is simply pointless, and doing so at an hour for which no ready likelihood existed of achieving their objective even more so.

If they do indeed have a dossier on me they would know that there was no risk of breaching a privacy clause by leaving this information, as I've always lived alone and my name is the only one on this number.

Crooks or no, it was a penny-ante operation and hardly merited picking up the receiver.

I still get calls from this number. I would like to know how come nobody can do something about all these calls that everybody has been getting for months and months??

Please show all of us that you really do have some clout.

I keep getting calls from this number 2-3 times a day!  So I click on the link 'Report It'.  Ummmmmm, report it uhhh, who's going to look at this but the rest of us that are dealing with this problem.  Kind of feeling like a lost cause here.  Well, so much for report it!

I have received several calls from this number tonight and for a few days in a row from another number. (800-498-2223  "800 Service" ) I am not sure if they are one in the same or not.

A few days ago I got a letter in the mail saying I had a long past due account with Verizon wireless from about 2 years ago.  They claimed the account was in my married name (I am divorced) so that right there made me wonder.

I figured some paperwork got mixed up or that someone had used my name to open an account.  I wrote a letter back about how I did not have an account, especially in my old married name, and to not contact me ever again.

Now I am receiving these phone calls!

I think I will write to the attorney general's office about it just in case.

Just received a call with 253-218-3451 in caller id. They asked for a woman that does not live here but has my same last name and the same first name as a sister. The woman did not want to answer my questions or leave a return call number. She had called my house and tried to be a bully. When I answer my phone I feel it is like answering my door. I won't allow someone to be a bad guest at my door or my phone. I gave her opportunity to correct her behavior and then finally hung up.

I owe her no service or duty, I am not indebted to her and I have no reason to allow bullying. I hung up.

They call me three times a day! I have no idea who they are, they don't leave a message and it is really annoying. Who are they? Where can I report this number?

You guys are going to love this one! So I get a call from this number and I answer the phone- because I am unemployed and seeking a job I never know when it may be a possible job opertunity calling.  When I picked up the phone I could hear that a cell phone called me...it was a person in a meeting and I could hear all that was being said in the meeting!  They were talking about wiring a home, and how they used to go in one location and now they are going to go into another location.  Seemed like a cable company or phone company meeting. After listening in to the rather boring meeting for about 15 minutes I hung up the phone.

So I have been getting calls from this number for about 3 days...I finally answered it today...someone fumbled the phone and hung up, so I called it back to yell at them and it was a recording stating the number had been disconnected.

They are looking for a judith with my last name this person does not exist.  i told them to stop calling that this person does not exist and she picked our name out of a phone book as a reference.  Haven't received a call in about a week.

THis number called my mother-in-laws landlord, whom I've never had down for a reference or anything, asked for my name and when she asked who was speaking, they hung up.  I reversed look-up and all I got was Auburn, WA.  What the hell is wrong with people and how do they get all of your information.  [***]!!!!

This number calls me everyday and never stops

they are still up to it. been getting calls for over a month now, and there is no debt. haven't called back since i don't recognize the number, and since i checked Google. they are now listing a new number : 1-800-258-8074.  good luck

I got a call today on my cell phone answered because I thought it was my daughter in kent washington...it wasn't it was a guy asking me to confirm last 4 of social...odd call...hung up

they wont stop and when I asked them to stop the guy told me off and called every minuet for almost an hour and just hung up on me .
I cannot belive we cant stop these poeple. We need to band together and do something as a whole group.

this number has called afew times  they even ring back under a different numnber.what a scam  they give  a ss# and hope that you fall for it and give your number

I got a call at work asking for me by my first name then asking for a confirmation of my last name.  When I asked who was calling she hung up... what is going on here?!  I did a *69 and got 253-218-3451 I tried calling it and the recording said it was not a good number, not disconnected just not a good number, again... what the heck?!!

The lady caller asked for "Jonathon".  I said you have the wrong number.  She then gave his last name and I do know the person.  She then asked for a telephone number for him but I said I do not have one.  She hung up.  

This person could have listed me as a reference on a credit application.  I have been getting similar calls asking for other people I know that do not live here.  Again, they say they are looking for telephone numbers, but I assume the purpose is really to harass the debtor by harassing responsible people who know the debtor.  

I checked and they can make one call looking for contact information.

So, are these calls a SSN scam? or  a collection agency tactic?
