Folks, I started getting two of these, "ring once, hang up" calls this morning on my cell. I called back the first time and got the message some have mentioned about this being marketing, And if I press one, I will be removed from their list, etc.

I have been reading this thread for a few pages now and it appears I have something to say that others should know - but apparently don't. Do not press their buttons as the prompt says, Just don't do it,. For heavens sakes folks, that is how the scam works.

Once long ago when I was in Florida and much younger and more naive, I innocently pressed a button as a marketing call suggested, But by innocently pressing the button, I had somehow set into motion an agreement that was invisible to me and my long distance phone service was quietly transfered instantly, to a high cost per minute rip off service.

I figured it out and refused to accept the transfer, but I had to fight it first. Many just roll over and never comprehend what was done. This is a particular shame that it gets done to the elderly as much as it does.

Whatever you do, and whatever I have to do next, do not, ever, respond to their game, there way. It is just taking you deeper into their game. Write the atty general of your state (I will). Put a silent ring on the number to stop hearing it (I will). But don't, ever, please, respond to an unsolicited prompt by either pressing the button they tell you or entering in ANY more information.  Like spam, once you respond at all, they value your number more., Because now you are not just a random number, you are a live one - so to speak.

Report it (I will), complain outside their box (I will) but don't play by their rules, please? Don't naively press the key they want you to press to get you removed. You will have just gotten had folks. Please?

just got this call -- hung up as fast as I picked up.

Listened to call and it claims be assistance for credit cards.  they want you to press 1, but no option to stop calls.  Claims they have called 3 times.  I suspect a phishing scam for CC#'s so I didn't push 1

I received a call just now from this number.  If you call the number back you will get an automated msg stating that if you would like to be removed to enter your phone number.  Once you do they repeat the number and confirm that you are off their calling list.

It's irritating, but some of you people are way to wound up over this. They are just calling your number, they arent raping your children. Get a grip.

I have been getting phone calls from this number and similar numbers multiple times a day for the past several weeks.

Here's something interesting: if you call back, you get a recording stating that you need to enter your ten digit number if you'd like to be removed for the list. For the hell of it I just stayed on the line without entering anything, in the hopes that another option would come up so that I could speak to someone (to ream them out, of course). Lo and behold, after about ten seconds the automated message came on, "Thank you. Your number has been removed from our list." Interesting, considering that I never typed it in to begin with!

So they were calling twice or so a day. My employee answered and the RUDE AND OBNOXIOUS non-english speaking middle eastern man would tell her he could only talk to the owner. He then would hang up. Minutes later they would call back and hang up right when we answered. When he did talk to someone they refused to leave any contact information.

I just happened to be there when they called - one eventful day. I got on the phone and asked them want they wanted. This non-english speaking middle eastern man then said they were entering my information in some online publication and wanted to know how I planed on paying for it.

At that point I proceeded to rip him a new one. I chewed his ear about rude behavior towards my employees, hanging up on us, and continual calls. I went on to tell him that if his company released any information about our company I would rightfully sue them until they were forced to shut down. I went on to tell him that if he expected to do business with people he needed to learn to speak english, learn to be respectful, and ask if we want to do business before signing people up for things. His reply was "OH my god!" and small statements of disbelief. For 15 minutes I chewed his ear and ordered him to put an english speaking person on the phone with supervisory rank. He never did, refused to talk about, and finally just said I put you on the no call list. Of course I had already called the number a month ago, so I bombed him about calling after I had already done this.

After I hung up, he called back 2 minutes later and hung up. Since then we havent heard a thing from them.

It's annoying as all get out! Stop all this nonsense bull****

My employer has been receiving many calls almost daily from this number. My staff is being constantly harassed by different callers. Each time they call, we request to be placed on the Do-Not-Call register to no avail. Do not accept these calls. They are trying to figure out your phone system to commit fraud – always fight terrorism!!!!

Received a call on my cell phone from the number at 8 pm here in St. Paul, MN. Didn't take the call but wondered how my cell number got out.

Got a call from these people at 11 am CDT. Looked it up, it now says they are in St. Joseph, MI. I am on the Do Not Call List but apparently it didn't help!

Received call stating "this is dish network and new equipment should arrive today."  Asked me to press 1 to confirm this installation.  I just stayed on the line and they hung up.  I get this call about 2-3 times a week.  And they are calling me on my work number.

I get it only at work too.  strange.  when I answer by mistake no one is there.

This number calls daily to 804-289-8100 at the University of Richmond

this is yellow pages advertising, but when you ask for their contact info, they say they are unable to receive incomming calls.  seems like a scam.

Apparently I "won" a "free" trip to Costa Rica.  Right.  So I pressed one and told the guy that I was a covicted felon and could not leave the country (I'm in Canada).  He asked me what I did and I told him none of his business to just remove me from the call list.  He got snarky and asked me if I raped someone, so I told him no, but he sounded cute.  For some reason he hung up right away.
