When will you learn that the only way to my CEO is through me. If you don't leave a callback number, name, and business, you're not getting through. Ever. Have a nice day.

To be articulate is a sign of education and maturity. To be rude is a sign you may be in need of understanding.

Rcvd call from Houlihan Smith (caller ID) asked for the owner by name.  I asked his name (I forgot it now) but he gave it to me and I said what is it regarding?   He said just give him my name...I then told him I could take a message...and he said is he not there...I said yes he is but I screen his calls and know that you are not one of the callers on his list to accept.  If you want I will take a message and if he is interested he can call back.  CLICK.

    The Plot Thickens
    VERY interesting!

We are also a small company looking for capital in the neighborhood of $2 million.  They had a gentleman call at just the right time (a "Regional Director") who suggested he heard we were looking for venture capital (which we had already put  together a business plan and had meetings already scheduled with other investment groups).  Not knowing any different, we scheduled a meeting with him.  His business card reads Houlihan Smith Advisors LLC, yet he had to write down his cell phone number for us to get hold of him directly as only the main Chicago number is printed on the card.

He went through his sales pitch, telling us he only takes maybe 10% of new potential clients he meets with based on his "gut feel" and if the meeting goes well.  He stayed for about 2 hours listening to our owner run through the product and company history and agreed that we were a great potential new client.  The next step would be for someone else to come in and sign a disclosure and complete some due diligence on the company's financials, marketing plan, meet the team, etc.  This process would cost us $2500 to determine the company's worthiness of getting investment money, and then they would find the money and get a % cut of the total investment $.  These were the only costs he indicated.

We agreed (I KNOW, I KNOW.....).  Another gentleman assumedly flew in from Texas (a Director, this time who ALSO hand wrote his cell phone number, as his card looked identical to the Regional Director's card with the same listed phone number of 312-499-5900) spent 2 days learning about our company and detailing out the next process of how they would put together a BFR of 400 pages that takes 30 days for their amazingly gifted team to research and put together, then this BFR would be put to auction where they would POTENTIALLY find different groups, including banks, to put offers in and then they would complete their due diligence on the investors to insure their validity, and then we would get our money and they would get their 2-4% in closing costs.  It wasn't until the END of this grueling 2 day affair that he decided to mention the cost of this BFR would be $35,000 to be paid IMMEDIATELY due to the fact that the SEC would not allow those kinds of costs to be taken out of closing costs.

IF WE HAD $35,0000 LYING AROUND TO SPEND ON A BFR, WE WOULDN'T NEED ADDITIONAL CAPITAL!!!!!   We also would have not entertained this $2500 sales pitch either.

Anyway, the man apparently does not make return flights home until the meeting is finished, so he was available to e-mail us an invoice immediately for the $2500, and then show up on the doorstep the next morning to collect on the $2500.  Our owner was at the hospital getting tests done and was not available to immediately sign the check, so this man was going to wait at his hotel until the owner could get him a check before he planned his flight home.
AND the invoice is payable to Houlihan Smith Advisors LLC, Not Houlihan Smith & Company Inc.  Wonder what the difference is?  Am having issues finding ANY information on this branch of the company.

BEWARE!!!!!!!  The whole thing is fishy beyond belief!!!!!

    annoyed with these calls
No matter how many times I ask them to put us on their "Do Not Call List" they continue to call.  They are always rude and try to play games with me so they can speak to the CEO.  The CEO does not want to speak or do business with them.

Very rude man called asking for the owner of the company by first name. When told that he was not in I was treated so rudely, in fact the guy was acting like a 3 year old repeating everything I said with a childlike voice. I'm sorry but Investment Firm or not, I wouldn't do business with these people if they were the last Investment Firm on Earth. I can assume they aren't a very reputable company if they are hiring jerks like that.... How do you get idiots like that from calling again? I know one thing for sure, he won't get away with that again with me. He'll get it right back between the eyes right through the phone... Ok, done venting now....

Just got a call from his number.  A guy asked for the CEO by first name.  When I said he wasn't available, the guy said "That's okay.  I'll just call him on his mobile."

    Yeah, good luck with that.

Some one keeps calling me from this number and asking for Charles.  I say he is unavailable, how can I help you.  They keep saying, I asked for Charles.  I ask who is calling, they will not leave a name. They say they will not answer any of my questions until I answer all of theirs. I think it is time for our government to get involved and stop these type of calls.

    Go Away!
First off, I own my own company and have no interest in borrowing any money or selling my company.

Second, the woman who screens my calls is a very intelligent, long-time employee who fills many roles and ensures people get paid and people pay us.

A big part of her job is to answer incoming calls. A big part of that job is to screen callers looking for me. These Houlihan jokers call all the time and act like they know me and I want to talk to them. The first time they actually told her what company they were with, I looked them up. I am not interested in their "services" and told her to not even bother calling me to see if I want to talk with them. Furthermore, she has told them that and asked them to put us on a do not call list.

If you are evasive when you call and won't tell my screener who you are, I am not taking your call. If you call all the time and NEVER actually leave a voice mail like you say you want to, I will not take your call. If you are Houlihan Smith or IPA or any number of other boiler room operations hawking services I don't want, I will not take your call.

My Admin is right outside my office and I overhear her trying to deal with you guys. She's not on some power trip. She's doing her job by keeping you from wasting my time, especially after we've told you to stop calling 10 times already.

Legitimate firm or not, you are wasting my time and your time by calling over and over after we've very politely said we are not interested.
