- telemarketing fraud call received todayCalled today at noon. Didn't leave a message. I googled the number b/c I don't know anybody in a 403 area code and found this website. I called them back. A gentlemen with an Australian accent anwered me! I told him that I can't believe that today, in 2009, ppl are still getting scammed by telemarketers! The background clearly sounded like a call center. I told him I knew why he was calling, to lower my interest rates..and that I got through my banks for this, not through some unknown caller! He got really upset, I told him no need to get angry and yell on the phone...does he not have the appropriate 'script' in front of him to answer me when I accuse him of fraud? I told him to do himself a favor, and get a real job. I hung up, and called phone busters (thanks Tanya!!)
- TrishJust got a call from a gal with a real heavy accent claiming they were working under "Government of Canada" and could lower my credit card interest rate. She claimed to have all my personal information in front of her but couldn't give me my mailing address. Then she asked for the expiry date of my Visa - when I told her I didn't have a Visa she said "oh..I mean MasterCard"...I told her if she had all my information she would have that, I wasn't giving it to her and was reporting her to MasterCard and hung up. When I called MasterCard they said it was a pshishing scam that is quite common during the holiday season.
She was pretty quick to give me all her information - her phone number, company Credit Card Consumer Advocacy and her name, Maria. - DBEWARE of this #, they also call from = 647-288-1289
- I've had enough!!!!!Ok, so I get a call from these jokers and heres how I deal with these low lifes. I cut them off from their sales pitch and inform them the phone call is beening recorded, I repeat the number they are calling from and get them to confirm. I then inform them that this was there first warning, should they call back 2 more times I will pass the info on to my lawyer and charge them with harassment. I get them to confirm that they understand me and then tell to never call back. I save a copy of the recording under the phone number on my hard drive in case I need to forward to my lawyer. This seems to stop most of them except for the really stupid ones.
- NicoleI got a call around 10am. I didn't even get the phone up to my ear to say hello and I was told to press 9 to speak with someone regarding my account. When someone finally answered I asked what bank/credit card company this is for they told me Visa/MasterCard. I then told them no one in my family has a credit card and would like for them to never call back, the man who took my call said something in a different language then hung up.
- IKETHEY CALLED AND SAID THAT IT WAS CRITICAL THAT I RETURN THE CALL(recording). I blocked the # called it back. It rang 8-9 times. He refused, refused and refused to tell me what CCA was short for and accused me of playing a cloak and dagger game. I hung up when he suggested I google the short form and found it to be a collection agency. I called the guy back without blocking the#. It was the same guy. He was looking for 'Fatima.' This was a month ago. The phone just showed the same [***] after I told him to remove me from the list(all) lists. Phishing scam?
- Caller: Credit Collections Agency?

- vcI answered because I was expecting a call from a service technician. Caller had a thick Indian accent and asked for us by last name. Our last name is often mispronounced, but this was so butchered I honestly didn't think he was asking for us. Then he spelled the last name, and it sounded like ours, but either misspelled or he gave another common last name, and I figured anyone credible actually looking for us would at least be able to read off the spelling of our name correctly.
When I said they must have the wrong number, he proceeded to double check the phone number (which was right, but we've only had this number for 2 months and it's just a security land line so no one really has this number) but when he said, "Is this your postal code?" and read off a postal code from another province (compared to the phone number's area code) that actually sounded like my very first postal code from my first apartment (2 provinces and 12 years ago) I figured this call was either definitely not for us, or someone going off of a mix of cobbled together information from our credit history. In either case, no one I needed to speak to.
When I said no that's not our postal code in a confused (not angry tone), he blurted out, "I'm sorry!" as in (Geez, don't yell at me!) That made me think that he got a lot of negative responses from people he called, so I was more inclined to think he was a telemarketer or scammer than a legit business call.
He never did say where he was calling from (which I didn't think was weird, since he claimed to be calling for someone that wasn't us, so really he has no business saying where he's calling from to the wrong person as far as I'm concerned). - LynnCall with a thick foreign accent. I asked who was calling and they changed the subject. I persisted and she told me Credit Card Consumer Advocates 403-648-9228 or toll-free 1-888-216-5028. They asked for the expiry date to my Mastercard and told me I can get a low rate on my credit cards. No way were they gonna get the expiry date of my credit card, assuming I have any credit card that is.

1st call 12:54 PM from: call display #14036489228
2nd call 1:20 PM from: call display #16472881289
This is the information he gave me: His name, Paul Smith, his employee # 403 Ext 231. Numbers he gave me to contact him (403) 648-9228 or 1-888-562-4273
Customer program he represented : CCCA Program (concerning a substantial decrease in the interest rate, from the current 19% to anywhere from 1.5 to 6.5%, depending on how I qualified ) This was a reward for being such a good client that always paid on time.
I spent over 25 minutes on the phone during which I unwittingly gave far too much information on both my Mastercards, MBNA and Sears.
Despite the fact that I was up to date on my cards, he instructed me to pay $100 towards my Sears Mastercard “as soon as possible”, in order to “activate” the interest rate decrease on both cards”.
I later had second thoughts and called the above 1-888 number, and got a message “you cannot access this no. from your calling area”.
At this point, as I had given out so much information to this so called “representative”, I phoned both MBNA and Sears, reported the calls, at which point I was advised that the call was NOT from them, and that ONLY they have the authority to modify interest rates. Both cards were immediately rendered inoperable and new ones are to be issued in the next 10 working days.
Should your security people require any further information on this, please feel free to get back to me. - Eric Arcand/Isabelle RichardNous avons reçu un appel de ce numéro, a 16h34, aujourd'hui.
