I got a phone call from this number at 1:26am today. I am positive that the SSA is not calling Americans at that hour of the night. This is not the first time I have received calls from this number at odd hours. When I have answered "hello" I have been greeted with nothing but silence on the line. SCAM SCAM SCAM. Do not trust whoever is making these calls. Someone is "spoofing" a legitimate government number and using some type of auto dialer to place multiple calls at one time and speaking to whoever answers first. If you have business with SSA and feel that your benefits may be at risk, call your local SSA office, just in case.

This is a legit number. I have a small job to do for the ssa and this morning received my purchase order. Then just now at 4:15 pm, this call came, I saw US govt and said Oh, Oh...  I answered it and would you believe the person was from the ssa and had a govt credit card number for me to pay me for a job that i just received the P.O. for.....  No wonder things are so screwed up. How many people like me would take the money and not show?? Probably all of you who post on this site...  Just kidding...  So it's legit. And I'm $3,000.00 more ahead than 20 minutes ago...  amazing....  Keep the fight going on...  The good will perservere and what goes around, comes around....  johnnyb

DO NOT believe the people claiming this number is legitimate! This is ABSOLUTELY NOT a legitimate number.

My wife is blind and collects Social Security disability. We received a call from this number claiming that they were making a follow-up call for my wife. However, we have not called the SSA in quite some time, so my first instinct was that it was a scam. After reading a couple of these posts, we decided to call the SSA directly to make sure, and the person there confirmed for us that any call from SSA would be coming from either your local office or from an 800 (or other toll-free) number.

So, with as much certainty as I can provide, this number is a scam.

    KENN,
The Fedreal Government does work on Staurday. I presume you might have noticed you get mail
delivered and Post Offices are open on Staurdays. Social Security also has some people working
but not on all Staurdays. However I cannot explain why you might get a call at night.

This is from the main Social Security Office in Baltimore. Woman left a message a couple weeks ago wanting to verify an address.Said she would call back. I was home when the call came in and answered. I did not supply any info- she had all the info and I verified. I am a payee for a relative and did not want any payments to be held up.

This isn't a scam. I emailed the Social Security Administration to find out about getting copies of my records, and this is the office that called me back to clarify what I would need to provide in order to make that happen. They were responding to a request I made from their website, so he might not have been privy to my records, and merely answered my query regarding info requests. If you or someone else filled out a form on the SSA site or requested info, this could be them calling you back. They didn't call during weird hours. That's not to say a valid number can't be spoofed, but it was a valid contact for me.

I got a call today for Social Security Administration in response of an email I sent to the President via one of those "click here to email The President".. To make a long story short I sent The White House and a women from SSA called me back.. Her is the email I sent them.. Oh and yeah they called but I didnt answer.. Sorry this is so long.. I understand why they called since its about SSD, I just wonder why they call I honestly believe they wont help me so im sure it was an excuse phone call, excuse call means they wanna reinsure me i wont ever get help..
    Dear Mr. President
My name is Michael Dorworth and to the almost 7 billion people walking this earth that name means absolutely nothing but therefore I still have my opinions, comments, concerns and questions.. Im a 39yo male with two children and an awesome wife.. My problem is 2001 i had two knee surgeries on the same knee within a couple week of one another. I was confined in the house for over nine months and with that my back started hurting something fierce, and I mean from the base of my skull to the back of my knees.. Mine and like most working adults back always hurt..  Since it started hurting worse after my knee surgeries I thought at first the doctors messed maybe nicked something. I NEVER EVER started pointing fingers and blamed anyone. Well I had a MRI done and to my and everyone else that had to do with reading the mri films were astonished I was able to walk more less work.. To describe the results in short we discovered I have something around "11" fragmented vertebra, 4 ruptured disc, 3 herniated disc, osteochondritus in both knees and shoulders and most issues have names for the diseases  like, spinal stenosis, Spondylolisthesis and a grade 1 and 2 degenerative bone disease, yes it hurts.. My question is why does the Government make it so hard to get help "for the people who honestly need it"?? I filed for disability here in the state of Illinois and I received a letter saying, "the state of Illinois is not denying your disabilities but they will not approve me for disability. If i have worked and earned the money and paid the money into programs like SSI, and/or SS Disability insurance just for situations like this. Its hard on a one pay check family to live and raise two children and more less make me feel less of a man when it comes me not being able to help provide for my family. I hope no man ever feels that way EVER just like I do when my kids say lets goto the Wisconsin Dells for vacation and I have to say no because we don't have the money.. Iv considered while my children were at school and my wife was at work to just pack me some clothes and walk away from  everything just so I'm not a burden to them financially anymore, and be one less mouth to feed anymore.. I would rather be homeless than be a burden. Please believe it when I say I have faith in you Mr. President but if I have earned help why wont my government help me, "and no i do NOT blame you when I say the Government wont help me. Unless forced I refuse to see the doctor and put us in bankruptcy court..Second I would love to know again what somewhat pain free feels like.
Thank You to who ever may read this. Oh you have my vote
    Thanks Mike Dorworth""..

So if this is SSA - then I have to ask a really silly question.  They have called me twice now, and never left a message.  My name is clearly stated on my VM, so they know who they are calling.  The second call was kinda fishy if the first call was a wrong number.

    Know why?

    I'M A CANADIAN!

The number is from Social Security headquarters. I double checked it myself because they robocalled me twice to check my phone system at work. I work at Social Security and I DO CALL PEOPLE ON SATURDAY. There are offices of Social Security where they don't see customers in person. I often work six days a week and call people all those days. When I call I have to verify the person's identity or else I can't share why I'm calling. If they want to take my number and call me back that's fine. Once they verify their identity I can give them back some personal information that only we would have. I can tell them who their employer was in 1970 or who their doctor is (if it's pertinent to their case) or what date they reported they last worked, etc. I do send things by mail but if people don't respond to their mail then I do call them. Many people don't or can't read the stuff in their mailbox. If somebody calls you from Social Security it's probably because it's a fairly important matter that they want to settle for your benefit.

I make a note when I try to call someone. You can probably call your local office and have them check your case to see who called you. At the very least call the telecenter number and check: 800-772-1213.

Why would we call a Canadian?
Maybe that Canadian works in the US.
Or maybe it's a number that used to belong to someone else.
Or maybe somebody provided your number as a contact.

I can't confirm that this number is not being spoofed though. Please if you get a call, at least call your local office or the telecenter.

Here is the problem with this number, people:

You MAY be getting a call from Social Security, or you MAY be getting a call from a scammer.  BOTH ARE HAPPENING because the scammer is using a phone spoofer app.

"Caller ID spoofing is the practice of causing the telephone network to display a number on the recipient's Caller ID display that is not that of the actual originating station. The term is commonly used to describe situations in which the motivation is considered malicious by the speaker or writer. Just as e-mail spoofing can make it appear that a message came from any e-mail address the sender chooses, Caller ID spoofing can make a call appear to have come from any phone number the caller wishes."

So how do you know if the call YOU got was legitimate, or a scam?  It's a scam if:

    1) The caller asks for ANY personal information (your name, address, social security number, birthdate, bank information, date of disability, type of disability, etc.)
    2)  You get a call after normal business hours
    3)  Something just doesn't "feel" right.

It almost all cases, disability benefit recipients will be contacted by their LOCAL social security office, not by the main office in D.C.  Social security beneficiaries all have a case worker, and that case worker handles your file and is LOCAL to you.

When in doubt, call your LOCAL social security office and ask if there is any reason that the SSA would try to contact you.  In almost all cases, the SSA contacts you by mail -- not by phone -- so that they have a written record of that contact.

It is very likely that some of the posting here -- the ones that say the number is legitimate -- got a call from the legitimate SSA.  However, others, like G Fed Man (or whatever his name was), are part of the scam and are making a poor effort to confuse you even further.

I happened to get a call today from the number, and I instantly knew it was a scam when I listened to the voice mail message.  Here is why I know the call I got was a scam:  1) The caller was whispering; 2) the caller said he was calling to verify my disability information (the SSA doesn't randomly "verify" like that); and 3) he said he would call me back.  The real SSA would say, "Please return my call at ###-###-#### during normal business hours..." or something similar to that.

this does not pass the smell test, I trust the 15 years of a police officer in me, if the ssa really wants to contact you , it would be done during business hours , during the week, lets say for example that the ssa employees work on the weekend, that may be possible, but why call somebody on a weekend day, that could wait for during the week, call youre local office , and their will be notes if anybody is trying to contact you, if it is a such important matter, the caller would leave a message about youre claim

    do not trust it.
