got a call from this number 416-646-8801 but when i answered, phone hung up.

It's a telemarketing company hired by the Toronto Sun. I've complained to them, and to Allstream (who provides the phone service). To deter telemarketers I've found the best practice is to be as loud, vulgar and ignorant as possible. Make them so disgusted with you that they WANT to never call again. Also, blowing a really loud and shrill whistle into the phone works wonders. I keep one beside my phone at all times.

I called them back and received an automated message about subscribing to the Toronto Sun.

Someone is calling from this number too often to be funy.

they called me at 10 this morning. Good thing I was up. Didn't get to the phone in time though because I was taking a piss.

not sure why everyone seemed to have so many issues calling the number back. I did and it was answered by an automated device telling me that I had received a promotional call from the Toronto Sun. It even provided an option to speak with a CS agent.

Got a call from "unknown name" at 416-646-8801 at 12.01 pm (noon) on Feb 25. No message left.

This number has been calling me every day for the past 2 months now. Same thing as everyone else happens, I picked up once, no one said anything but heard lots of background noise.. Called the number back and it rang then disconnected.. Extremely annoying.

The CRTC should shut these people down!

I called back, and got a recording saying it was a promotional call from the Toronto Sun.
Kinda thought it was Marketers of some sort....

best thing to do is just setup your phone so that it has a special ring when it is someone you know that is calling.  I never answer the phone unless I am expecting a call or know who is calling.  If it's important they can leave a message ... and if you are busy (ie. bathroom, cooking etc) you don't need to rush to the phone to answer.

I've been getting calls from this number for a few days, at least 4 times now.  I missed the call 3 of those times, there was never any message left.  One time I answered but it was just silence.  Annoying.

Just called this number and decided to find out what they know about me. They must have gotten a list from one of my current service providers as they had my full name and address. I kept the girl on the phone for a while intending to launch into a tirade but she sounded so sweet that I just politely asked her to put me on their do not call list. She gave me a confirmation number and that was it. IV Marketing on behalf of The Toronto Sun.

It is IV Customer Service they are callign on behalf of the Toronto Sun .. Morons they just woke my baby up and now they will nto answer ...

When I answered there was no one on the other line for a few seconds. When someone finally got on the line they were calling from The Sun newspaper offering a trial of the newspaper (daily, or once weekly at 25% off).
It didn't help their cause when the telemarketer could barely speak.

Never mind!!!! Just found out it is The Toronto Sun!! For this reason, I will NEVER subscribe!! Also, the Police have been notified.

just called the number back and hit one - it is for the Toronto Sun and I told them I'm on the Do Not Call list and should not be getting these calls - she said she would put my number on their internal list - she asked for a name and I said no - you have the phone # so do not call it again.

Sadly newspapers are one of the groups who do not have to abide by the do not call list.
