It's the dpss

This is a SCAM of someone pretending to be the CA Dept. of Social Services, Welfare, Food-stamps, then they leave a FAKE customer service number that i NOT the official number.

They left a voicemail in Spanish saying there are dpss. Obviously a scam.

This is the Dept of Social Services recorded message service!! It is REAL. YOU LOSE YOUR BENEFITS IF YOU IGNORE THE NOTICES! I am just warning you. A real scam TRIES TO SCAM YOU. They don't tell you to check your account for important notices (like because they have a 5 day due date window) or that since you qualified for Medi-Cal you also should qualify for Cal Fresh! Or that your General Relief Quarterly Report is due by the 5th of the month! Or your QR7, or any number of other forms, benefits or due dates! Or that you got your Cal Fresh early this month (because of the BS in the congress) and they want you to know it is there BUT it is not extra! The message also tells you, If you have questions please go to www.yourbenefits.laclrs.org or contact the customer service center at 866-613-3777. YOU KNOW WHY? BECAUSE IT'S LEGIT! IF YOU WANT TO LOSE YOUR BENEFITS THEN IGNORE THE FACTS AND LISTEN TO THESE STRANGERS LIE TO YOU. YOUR CHOICE. Don't complain later when you and or your kids/family lose your aid. THINK!

I believe 'LOGIC' post was a possible shill for a scam.  Notice the incoming call was 424-405-5908.  That number is not to Department of Public Social Services office of the County of Los Angeles.

However, LOGIC tells you to call that department on a number that appears to be correct, but I think you should double check that.  Some scams like to mix fact/lies, and hope readers will take a call without double checking if the caller is who they claim to be.

There are scammers that claim to be able to get you more or better benefits, and they change a fee or a percentage. This is what I believe the calls are about. They imply the work for/with a state agency, when in fact, they are really just an unneeded middleman.

Be very careful about calls like this - see the posts above. It pays to be suspicious until you can verify with the actual agency.

I am troubled by you post.  The number that is calling and leaving messages is not associated with the California DPSS. And none of the posters above reported that DPSS was showing in their phone Caller ID?

Also, what brings you here?  You seem sure the calls are OK, so why bother to look up a number on a site that reports scams if you are sure the number is legit?

I believe the best thing to do is for people to thank the caller and then call the DPSS on a number they look up and dial for themselves, that way they can be certain they are talking to the right people.

So why would this number call me on a Saturday?

Received a call from 424-405-5908, claiming they are Dept. of Public Social Services, on a Saturday. To my knowledge, DPSS is closed on Saturdays.

Caller ID 424-405-5908 called tonight 4 times (Jan. 1, 2020) at 7:16 PM, California time. Did not bother to leave any voice message.
Jan.1, 2020 is a national holiday in US, so all government offices are closed. Reversed phone look-up shows that 424-405-5908 belongs to DPSS ( Department of Public Social Services in California). Some hacker must be stealing this phone number to make illegal call, the same situation as many Spammers calling you using your own phone number.

I don't believe the DPSS works on the weekends, I have never ever known any government office to be opened on the weekend and yet they called me three times at 8am.

A voice message from Los Angeles County Dept of Public Social Services (IHSS) announcing all offices are closed to public due to COVID-19. All inquiry to be done via a toll free number.

This is a scam. Do not answer nor give them information.

Got a call on Thursday, May 21, 2020, 11:30 a.m., from Telephone Number 424-405-5908, L.A. County DPSS. Left no message. I wasn't home and wouldn't have answered the call anyway. No message was left. I assumed it was a (Scam) ROBO caller.

The phone number  1- 424 405 5908 called me 4 times saying that they are from LA County DPSS, but did not leave a message, I keep saying hello but no answer on the other line, the second call told me a I have a case I need to answer but its too fast for me to  hear it and take a note, phone dead.

Calling me on. Sundays morning This is the first time ever the county ever reaches me from 424 so suspicious!
