Called 3 times in 10 minutes and I didn't pick up

I have received numerous calls from this company, which describes itself as a collections agency. They assert that I owe them money and if I don't pay there will be grave consequences. I disputed this matter with the previous collections agency back in January and opted for mediation to resolve the matter, one of the remedies outlined in our contract. This new company, however, says that the previous collections agency is no longer in the picture and anything discussed is no longer relevant. They are rude and belligerent and try to intimidate you. I told them I wouldn't be intimidated and that I dispute I owing any money and that we should settle on arbitration as suggested in the contract to settle matters. They said that is not acceptable and that I would remain in collections until this matter is settled. I guess that means endless phone calls.

Several calls from this number. Who are these people calling my cell phone? I did not answer, but called back and heard a recorder. I will not answer and will block this number from my phone. Scam Artist bothering people !

I wouldn't do that.  If you answer, you will confirm that you have a working number.  You may want to ask your phone company if they have a CALL BLOCKING service.  It may cost a few dollars a month, but it could be well worth it.  We hear from these A------S EVERY DAY.

Sounds to me as if the issue with everyone is with the creditor and not the agency. There is never an excuse for rudeness but I know for a fact that collection agencies do not create accounts to be collected on. Creditors send accounts to outside collections. U call their customer service and they tell u to disregard collection activity in the meanwhile they leave your accounts with the collection agency. Pay your bills people......or attack your creditors.

Asked that "the owner" of the business call back & give a reference number.

If the issue was that we owed a debt, that would be one thing.  The issue is we owe NOTHING.  Why are they harrassing over nothing?

I did receive a "private" call today with a VM left from McCarthy, Burgess, & Wolf.
They asked me to call back 440-735-5115 with some reference number.

After seeing the comments on this site, I looked at their web site (www.mbandw.com).

Quoting Them:

What the heck?  This is like CIA/NSA espionage stuff.  LOL!
Who the heck to they think they are?
Then, lying to people saying they're attorneys.
Strange hard-line tactics, when preliminary basics may suffice.

And, as others have stated, they did not address me by name and called an old business extension that's been closed for over a year.  Like many of you, my credit score is over 800, I owe no debt, only recurring monthly household utilites that are all paid up-to-date via automatic monthly payments and confirmed by me, checking the utilities web sites.

This has scam written all over it!

I wouldn't volunteer any information to these people.  Let them send a letter if it is legitimate.

Who's trying to extort money from debt-free people, with good credit scores, and obviously no delinquency?
Then, asking only for "business owners" with reference numbers, yet calling personal individual citizens' private numbers?

That's so strange.  Me too.

And they called my personal unpublished home number that only my parents have to use in emergency.

(And, I've had the phone number since 2003, so it's not like some business just closed and I took over the number.)

Oh, and BTW, almost forgot ... I'm debt-free except for my recurring monthly utilities that are "evened out" by them and auto-debited monthly.  (and yes, the payment information is up-to-date.)

So, I have NO idea why a collection agency is calling my private number, asking for a business owner -- not by name -- and offering a reference number.  CREEPY!

These jackholes keep calling me. The woman says it's an important business matter, but gives no reference #'s or what the matter is about.
They have been calling me for weeks. I never answer and let it go to VM.
I WILL BE SENDING A C&D CERTIFIED LETTER TO THEM AND IF THEY DONT STOP CALLING I WILL TAKE YHEM TO COURT!

Not sure what is so funny about where they are located...they have glass storefront and parking lot...Signage in front identifying themselves as MB&W  <-- OH there it is...that is why it is so funny.

But in all seriousness people - get familiar with the FTC's Fair Debt Collections Practices Act - FTC has a PDF that you can read -

they begin harassing, begin quoting sections from the PDF where they are in violation - 1000 dollar fine per infraction - File with FTC...shut em down

I have never received a call from this number but have had money deducted from our bank account this last month.  When I asked our bank about it, it's been set up as a recurring payment.  I have no knowledge of any payments not being made, nor any collection agency coming after us.  I have no idea how they got our bank information.  I tried to call this number & it just continues to ring.  I see from reading on here, that we're not the only ones they are harassing but possibly the only ones that have not been called from them but money deducted from the account.

Well, the strange thing is they actually called me 4 years ago the first time and I had a real debt they were trying to collect. they were nice and I did try to pay $500 a month towards the $4300 i owed.
After i couldn't keep up they threatened me several times and I just stopped answering the phone.
They gave up I guess...

Why haven't they tried to sue me???

I'm happy they didn't but I am in California and in few months the statute of limitations will not allow them to do anything. Again, I'm happy about it but why didn't they tried?

You guys Wont believe this. There is someone at McCarthy Burgess and Wolf doesn't believe that everything on here is true!? I called that individual out on it priceless
