Same email russellj007@gmail.com so I googled it and this forum came up.

What a SERIOUS PROBLEM GUMTREE has with scams.  They need to get on it somehow.

I received in French on a Belgian number: "Degrave-R ll= "GPS coordinates" CA ROULE! bises"

Degrave-R doesn't mean anything to me.
The GPS coordinates point within 200m of my current location.

Well my brother is using a gps phone and it was a test. Seems this number is somewhat linked to gps phones.

I was cleaning out my emails and came across this guy from back in April. He contacted me on my mobile. He even sent me a picture of his drivers license. Which sure enough was John Russell. Stolen identity, obviously. I wanted to talk to him, as he said he was in Darwin, he didn't have a number I could call him on. Well if he was staying somewhere, but didn't have a mobile, surely the place he was staying, had a phone. Very sus. Gumtree warns not to advertise your mobile in your ad, for good reason.

I received a nonsense message several times form this number
"sadasdasasdasdasdasd ...." at around 7:37pm on 21 Aug

I just received a text message on my mobile in the Netherlands from +447624-803777, which, after doing a Google, is apparently a radio pager from Isle of Man!
The text message said, "WhatsApp code 988"

Anyone know exactly what it's supposed to mean?

they message me that i have won 3 crore 45 lakh's .they told me please send your name, address, tel.no to icct20prom2012@vf.vc. they sent me the message on 30 september 2012.

my phone number is 7838023633.

Advertised on Gumtree to sell a car and have a John Russell contacting me and offering more than its advertised for, so found this forum thank god.

Wow!  I just received the same email, word for word, from a John Russell (Drussell1068@gmail.com) interested in buying my car on Gumtree!!!

This number is a Google Number.

I'm from Australia and I have been contacted by 2 scammers interested in buying my car for more than asking price. Word for word John Russell in Darwin on a research project what Will happen? I fell for it and gave him my bank account number. I am reporting him to scamwatch in the morning. Then a Denis macus whose at sea contacted me the same thing scam scam scam

I got a SMS from this number advising I had "won $US1,150,500 in the ongoing USA MOBILE DRAW Ref: US/11/3. for claim Contact Juan Gary via email: mdraw@usa.com & include your email" What a joke! There are a lot of nasty people out there.

Thought it was strange to recieve a txt from an international number regarding the vehicle, but after a few minutes, oh what the heck - if they're keen to buy, im keen to sell. Sent a short email via my work address with a few details asking him to call me.

First Email:
I want to know your reason for selling the Vehicle and also let me know if there's any finance plan on it, I'm willing to pay $2,800 and i will be glad if you sell it to me. I will be delighted if you remove the AD online and consider me as your favourite buyer by ignoring all other offers.
I promise to take care of the Vehicle even more than you have done in the past, let me know if my offer is good enough to be the next owner.

Told him I would be happy to sell for $2,800 on the condition the vehicle was picked up two weeks later, and I would take it off the web provided he made a deposit.

Second Email
I won't be able to come over with cash or mail a cheque because presently, i'm working away in Darwin on a research project but i have equally arranged the courier agent that will come for the pick up, transfer of ownership but this will be after i have made payment to you.
Kindly send me your bank details as i'm ready to transfer the money into your bank account.

Here is where it got funny. I've never sold a car to anyone who arranged a third party to pick it up and sign for ownership. I asked him to call me and I knew it wasnt legit.

Third Email
I'm not in a network coverage area for my phone, so i have resolved that the best way to get to me at the moment is through my email as i'm presently working away out of town on a personal research project. Kindly let me know if you're still willing to sell to me.

Fourth Email
With Due respect, i do not appreciate those words you say to me.
I will appreciate if you understand my situation here and that i'm serious in buying this car. I have attached a copy of my licence for you to see how serious i'm on this, please send me your details as i'm ready to buy off the vehicle from you.

Reported him to Australian Police and a variety of consumer scan websites in Australia.

Nathan, I had the same John Russell. the moment he talked about bank details, I was like cash only and in person.

got exactly the same emails but were from a toby johnson i gor receipts and emails also from paypal which looked so real it nearly fooled me all has been reported lets stop these people
