They actually called me to confirm I wasn't a scammer. Apparently they've had a rash of fraud like this in the last few months.

I am at Penpals but I never give my number and the site never ask for my number :S

I had to do a verification for my Fanbox and Youtube accounts and I entered my mobile number in the required fields of their websites. The messages I got as a means of verification were from this number. So I guess it's just a free service used by everyone.

i got him under this email russellj007@gmail.com, said he was in the Nothern Territory and wanted to buy my car in South Australia, asked for my bank details to deposit the money which i refused, i offered a face to face meet up instead by a friend up where he supposedly was then he stopped responding

yes you have to be very careful about stuff like that, scammers are quite regularly targeting ads on Gumtree and Ebay that are pick up only cash in hand sales, this is why if someone does want to buy something in such a way offer Paypal as an option as even though it come at a fee it's a safe way to do risky business as if they are a scammer then they wont do it even though it costs them nothing in fee's

These Risks are not just limited to sales, people are often targeted on Social media sites making all sorts of claims from wanting to come to your country and live with you(even though they don't know you) to needing money because they are supposedly stuck somewhere for instance a hospital or something, some of the big Nigerian scammers are so brazen they tell you there in Nigeria
