They called about 6:30PM.  I didn't recognize the number, so I let the  machine take it.  They hung up after the final ring before the machine clicked on.

The calls are apparently for the Oregon Narcotics Enforcement Association, and are made by their fund raising company, Community Fundraisers, located in Beaverton.  Per ONEA Community Fundraisers may provide you with phone number (503) 642-1313. I also found out similar info as the previous entry after doing some research.  They raise funds for several non-profit organizations.  Here is the info on the company.

Call from 503-591-5482 out of Beaverton, OR at 5:54pm 8/20/09. I answered to a male saying "[***]" under his breath....but easy enough to hear.  I said "Hello?" and he said some sort of telemarketer babble with the word "narcotics"...my mind was still spinning on the B-word, so I replied "Excuse Me, but did you say the word [***] as I answered?" and he energetically replied, "No Mam, that wasn't me!".  I told him I didn't care what he was selling and to never call me back.  I hung up and attempted to call the number back to complain and it said it was no longer in service.  Something fishy!

I get calls from this number from time to time and they just don't say anything. I thought it was and ex trying to bug me but apparently it's not, good to know.

They called tonight saying they were from Crime Stoppers that helps support safety in schools.  I told them I would not commit to sending money until I see what they were "selling".  Can't wait to see it!!  My husband then remembered he googled the number last week and told me to go check it out!  Amazing!  Why can't they be stopped??

I got a call from 503-591-5482 at 8:20pm on 4-20-2010. It came up as a private # but my phone showed the number. I tried calling it back and got a not in service recording. I then attempted to look it up on the net using the Oregon white pages and it came up as a private number. So puzzling to me. Doesn't make any sense to me.

This number has called me like five times this week. It keeps asking for my dad. It's a 503 number, which means it's from Oregon.

I have received a call at 6:43 pm and 8:46pm tonight 8/09/2010....After checking this online tonight I see that alot of others have received the same call from the same number.  This caller did not respond when I answered the phone, however my phone is listed on the do not call registry.

"If you have caller ID, a telemarketer is required to transmit or display its phone number and, if available, its name or the name and phone number of the company for which it is selling products. The display must include a phone number that you can call during regular business hours to ask that the company no longer call you. This rule applies even if you have an EBR with the company, and even if you have not registered your home phone number(s) on the national Do-Not-Call list. Before these rules took effect, the words “private,” “out of area,” or “unavailable” might have appeared on the Caller ID display."

As stated in other posts the #5035915482 is not a number that can be called during regular business hours.  This site also shows how to lodge a formal complaint.  Non-profit calls may have special rules different than the above.

Washington County Sheriffs Office replies:

We have recieved many calls regarding this type of "attempted scam". First and foremost, WCSO does have a setup where they do call county residents and advise them of up and coming event and donations. However if you believe YOUR CALLER to be a scammer IT MOST LIKELY IS. This "company"and number that you all are refering to does not exist. As far as we can tell the "dead number" is a false number that shows up on caller ID but it is unknown if the suspects are operating in Portland or even in Oregon. Internet calling can be masked to show a number that they choose even when calling from another number. The phone company cannot do a trace on it then. The best way to fight fraud is to NEVER offer to donate to a fund that you are unfamiliar with. The Sheriff's Office has and will continue to look into the situation. We will then take action as necessary. To date we havent heard of anyone actually giving money to this ring of scammers. However, if you are taken for money please call your local jurisdiction and report it using your home address as the source of the incident (since phone number used isn't in Beaverton). Thank you.

Received a call at 6:30 on 10/14/10.

I received several calls from this number today alone.  I have tried looking at every reverse directory that I can find and NOTHING comes up.  I did *67 and called back but also got the "not in service" message.  I think I will answer next time and give them a peice of my mind for interrupting my family.  I mean the least you could do is leave a message!

Received a call at 7:18 PM this evening and did not pick up.  Caller at above number hung up when my voice mail came on. Same misterious caller apparently from Beaverton, OR.. I have no contacts there.

we got a call from this number- luckily we let it go into voicemail and have not responded.

They called but did not leave a message. When I called it back the number was out of service even though I called it within an hour of it calling.

Annoyance calls received regularly from 503 591-5482. I suspect they are attempting a fraud, because they claim to represent a non-profit fundraising arm of the sheriff's department yet I am unable to find any record of their organization. What a shame that they use (supposedly) injured police officers as excuses to steal money.
