I got a call from this number and was told to call back and 866 number and was given a reference number. They said I needed to verify my information for my online order. I definitely did not place an online order. I first checked my account online and it had a zero balance. I then called the number on the back of my Macy's card which was different from the one left on my voicemail. They verified I had a zero balance and said they did not show any online orders for me nor did they show anyone had tried contacting me.

A woman left message saying I need Call back because questions about my Macy's purchase question.

I got a call from this number, but the message was a bit garbled so I Googled the number and saw all these messages about Macy's.  I called our local Macy's to check it out (note:  I called them.).  They confirmed that a fraudulent purchase had been made on my online account for a $40 gift card.  They then put me through to Customer Account Protection Services who removed the charge, cancelled my account, and now sending me a new card.  I figured this was a phishing call, but I was wrong.  Glad I followed up.  These types of crooks start with small purchases to see if they can get away with it, then escalate.  Disgusting!

A year and two months ago, someone stole my Macys card number and fraudulently purchased online $900 worth. I contested and "ONLY A YEAR LATER" did I finally get a zero balance. I requested my account be CLOSED and I cut up my card. Less than 15 minutes ago I got a call from this number verifying "MY" attempted purchase for nearly $1400 worth!!!  IRATE is not strong enough to say how much energy I have right now. Of course, I requested (once more) that the account that is still bearing my name be CLOSED ONCE AND FOR ALL as those FRAUDULENT CHARGES were also STOPPED!  I was assured that the account is closed now and that I will not receive anything else.

You're do very wrong. I've never had a Macy's account and yet I'm getting these calls as well.

**LEGIT CALL FROM MACYS**

I got a call from 513-398-5221.  He said he was from Macys and asked me to verify my name and if I had placed an order from Macys (I did just place an order).  It felt like a scam so i hung up.  I then looked up and called Macys customer service to verify the caller.  They said it was Macys and even had the time stamp of when the call was made.  My shipping address was different from my credit card address.  I verified the purchase and was done.

I received a voicemail from this number, sounded like an Indian man asking me to call back at 1-866-282-8977 to verify a Macy's order I had placed yesterday. I originally thought it was a scam but then I received an email from Macy's stating there was an issue with my order and to call the same number he had left on my voicemail. Once I logged into my account, I did notice my order was on hold. I called and spoke to Shannon (also sounded foreign) and she asked my order number and name. That was all she asked. She said there was a problem verifying my order and went ahead and re-placed the order. Upgraded to priority shipping and waived the shipping fee. Very nice woman. I already received confirmation email from Macy's about my new order before we even got off the phone. It was legit.

I do NOT and never have had a Macy's credit card so why would they be calling me if it wasn't a fraud call?

This number is legit, but it seems totally suspicious and the automated system even answers with a Consumer Protection Department message, which doesn't identify it as Macy's.  This made me think that someone intercepted an order I placed and was trying to scam me out of my personal information.  I hung up and called the Macy's phone number on my order confirmation and ultimately they directed me to the consumer protection department who was just verifying, due to the price of the product, that I had actually placed the order.  So annoying.  They never asked me for any more information other than to confirm that I did purchase the item, and they said they would go ahead and release the order.  Now what would have happened if I didn't call them back?  Who knows.  Would my order have been cancelled?  Seems well intended Macy's, but bad procedures.

Got a message from this # asking to verify some details about an order. The guy (foreign accent) said he was calling from Bloomingdales. I had just placed an online order on their site earlier and used PayPal. I called Bloomingdales phone number on their site instead of calling the # left on the message since I was suspicious of the message.
The message was legit and it was a rep for Bloomingdales needing to confirm my ship address (different from my billing). I talked to him a bit and said that I don't get calls like this from other stores when I purchase online. He said their dept does security checks on the online orders if anything looks out of the ordinary. It's good they're doing these checks but made me a bit nervous at first.  They didn't ask for any billing info or any sensitive info (this would be a big red flag).

Not true. So many people have reported this number under so many different circumstances. just because yours  didn't appear to be fraud, doesn't mean the number isn't fraudulent. I got a call from this same number and am getting odd text messages from my account, yet Macy's reps said it wasn't them and no activity on my account. I'm current and have been for a year. Do YOUR research first before  you start claiming people are making false accussations. This number has a TON of sketchy stuff. If it sounds sketchy by TONS of people, typically because its not the real deal. Something is up with the number.

100% right - Numbers are so easily spoofed that it makes sense to thank the caller, don't confirm or offer any personal info, then call the number you know, trust and dial for yourself.
