No message left. - JonathanGot a call from 604 215 4934 at 4:16 pm claiming they were the police. They asked if everything was okay, to which I replied yes, and that it must've been because my phone was in my pocket that I might have accidentally called them. I later checked my dialed list and confirmed that I hadn't made a call to the police. By the way, it was a woman speaking.
- DBRCall from 604 215 4934 at 1:04 am. No message, never called 911.

- Sean| 3 repliesDitto, from the Vancouver Police, your phone just called 911 is everything okay. I said yes. When I hung up my phone said "Emergency Mode". Checked user manual, and it said "your phone company can program any number so that you can call it even when locked" tried dialling 9-1-1 when the phone was locked, and yeah it looked like it was going to dial so end end end end. Checked and neither the call they were returning or the call i had just "made" showed up in my call list.
- reallynotsureaboutthis replies to Sean| 2 repliesExact same thing happened to my bf last night, only they asked for all his personal info...name, address, birthdate, what he was doing...and they said they would send somebody to the house just to check it out and make sure everything was okay...they never showed up though. Is this a scam or what? 911 was not listed in his calls made, but if you say the phone can slip into emergency mode....i guess its' possible since he was running around with the phone in his back pocket... still, i'm very skeptical.
- figured it out replies to reallynotsureaboutthisJust replyng to my own posting here:
I called the Van Police Non-emerg line just now and told them what happened. They confirmed that it IS their number. She even told me that if you tried calling it back it would say it is out of service as it is a dispatch numeber only. Cell phones can go into "non emerg call" mode and dial 911 even if your phone is locked. And apparently it doesnt' show up on your call display that you called. It's all good...call van police non-emerg yourself if you're worried, cause that's what i did! Dont' worry people... your info is safe if you gave it out. That's what i was so worried about...
cheers! - it is vancouver policeMy phone was locked but I guess it click emergency call. Its a blackberry 9700. Tends to do that a lot I guess. The police called back, a woman asking if everything was all right. I was very skeptical asked for badge number and called back on the non emergency phone line and could find the same police woman by telling the badge number and time called. They knew my adress and name and sent someone to check how everything was. Two police showed up in full uniform so its real.
- gm0n3yI made a non-emergency call to the VPD and after I made the report and hung up, a few minutes later this number called. Didn't answer as I was away from my cell, looks like it was probably the police. I'm not sure why they would call back right after I talked to them on the non-emergency line.
- Coffee2.0I got a missed call from this number as well, but it was my home phone. I do own a Blackberry, but have no missed calls on there. I checked my home phone's list of recently dialed numbers and there was definitely no 911 call.
I did file a report a couple months ago with the Maple Ridge RCMP, but this doesn't seem related since apparently it's a VPD number. - DeanI have a Blackberry and it only takes pressing the centre dial 3 times for it to call 911 when in 'locked' mode.
I've had the cops call to see if all was okay after the phone got bumped in my purse and called 911 a few times. Officer said they get false calls all the time from Blackberries.
Also, calling 911 via emergency call will not show up in your call log. This is to prevent accidental call backs to them. Odd? Yes.
PS - I hate Blackberry. - Fred| 4 repliesYou guys are funny... so skeptical, reminds me of me...
Anyways, I'm a cop and got a phone call from this number too... didn't recognize it because it's from the office that receives 911 calls on behalf of several police agencies. I checked my voicemail and it was a friend of mine, so I called back thru my *secret* number and it's 100% legit, I swear!
If you call 911 and hang up they'll call you back... if you don't answer, I come knocking on your door...
You make the choice (I am pretty cute in a uniform) ;p- Caller: police
