this co. is mercantile adjustment bureau... a collection agency.  they have a toll free # too---866-716-1545. I had the same call today(03/11/08). I spoke with a guy named frank & he took me off the list - so nice!

Ah- first-- doesn't anyone use CALL BLOCK on their phones anymore?   I put in this number on google search because I have had 2 calls to my cell phone #.  There is no call block on my cell phone until I called the company and requested it for this specific number.  My home # has call block- where you put in *78 on last call that came in and it blocks it permanently.  I have not been harassed at my home #; but I have recently on my cell because I used this number to fill out forms online for moving company estimates.  I trust that my number was then sold to other companies and thus the huge amounts of various solicitor calls came to my cell #.   I simply am changing my cell phone number.  Sure it is a bit of a hassle- even my biz cards have that number.. but in long run it is much easier to just change your number-- for free for once a year.   I needed new biz cards anyone.  And this whole "I'll call police and sue them..." Yeah take it to a lawyer and see what happens.. call the police... THERE IS NO TERRORISM OR THREAT TO YOUR LIFE... just phones ringing all hours of day-- well get call block, caller ID and then protect yourself from there.  Sheesh.

I stumbled upon this site after receiving several calls from this number -- and I know not to pick up. I called the 800 number listed, dialed "0", gave them my name, told them I have a relatively new cell phone and don't know the individual they told me they were looking for (which is all true). The woman was very nice and told me they would remove the number from the list. We'll see what happens. I won't pick up, but if they call again, I will either complain to the BBB or call them.

I was getting calls from this number for months. Nobody was on the line when I answered and it was busy when I called back. Did a reverse look up and no help. Did a google search that landed me here and found some very helpful info. I used the info above posted by "upset call receiver" and reached a very helpful person. They had our number listed from the person who had the number before us. She was very helpful and promised to remove the number. Try calling the number listed below:

My boyfriend got the call on his cell phone while I was out of town, and he is out of town.. I told him I went to my grandsons and he said, I got a call from Buffalo, you went to Buffalo instead of NYC!. I said.. sorry baby, wrong number, so I checked it out and googled it, sure enough its a scam for sure!. Glad I found this site. BTW I did go see my grandson ;-)

These people at this establishment "Mercantile" are idiots!  I called the number back and spoke with "Arther Dent" who basically called me a liar.  Apparently they were looking for an individual and had my phone number crossed with his name.  They have called my house everyday since JANUARY, 2007!!!!!!  What idiots!!!!  No wonder people don't pay them!

I have had calls from this number on my CELL PHONE twice a day for several days now. They never leave a message and when I call back I get an automated voice saying the call cannot go through as dialed. I tried calling one of the 1-800 numbers listed above and was told by the gentleman (who was very friendly) that my number is not in their database...ugh! Who knows...

I did call them at 1-716-929-8200. They stated they were looking for someone else and they would remove my #. We will see.

Somebody has been calling constantly,asking for a "Antonio Lopez", my wife and I have informed that man, always the same, on repeated occasions, there is nobody by that name living here, have been ever living here, and furthermore, we don't know anybody by that name. Apparently he doesn't undrestand there are hundreds of thousands of people in this country who have our last name and are not related. Then he starts using insulting language, that we are "well scripted" to know what to answer. After receiving all this verbal abuse i told him I will call the authorities. I am an elderly person, my blood pressure at a result of this had a sudden surge. I have witnesses. We don't need this abuse!. It is there nothing decent people can do anymore?

i keep geeting calls from this number and all i get is a recording when i pick up telling me to call a 1 866 number.

Call the number above. They said that they would remove my number since the calls are not for me. I hope it works. The company is cheap and too lazy to check these things out.

I have had my cell phone for two years.  When I first got the phone, I kept getting calls from Mercantile saying, "This is NOT a sales call," to please call this 1-866 number, etc.  Not knowing that Mercantile was a collection agency, I ignored the calls that came about once every two weeks.  Eventually they stopped.  

Now, I am getting calls from the "office of Tammy Bell" from the 716-817-6409 number.  I call the number listed on my cell, and either get a busy signal or a all circuits are busy.  I haven't tried the 1-866 number listed above yet, but I will try it today.

I'm also receiving calls from this number. They went away for a number of months but this morning I got another one and fully expect them to continue again. I have the number saved in my cell phone under the name SCAM and do not answer and there is never a message left.

I just blocked the number. I talked to one company once without giving any information about us but confirming certain info was not associated with us. They promised to stop but the same company from a different state started calling two months later so I just started blocking numbers.  Unfortuately we moved to a city where there is/was a deadbeat with my husband's common name.  Debt collection companies have access to a lot of information to eliminate my husband but are just plain LAZY!

Since I live on the west coast I get calls from this number any time between 6am to 10am in the morning! How annoying to pull myself out of groggy sleep to look at my phone and realize it's not a phone number I know and, if I pick up, the line is dead! I called back and got the message "I'm sorry but your call can not be answered at this time. Message 12... 034" or something close to that. Arghhh!!!!

I returned this call it is from "Cancer Treatment Services", the answering service said they make many wrong calls

We must receive 2 to 3 phone calls from this number every day. When you answer there is no one there. I searched and found a Mercantile Adjustment Bureau and they are at the same address in Rochester NY.

This is a collection agency of con artists who specialize on preying on the uninformed and the easily spooked.

They use auto-dialing computers, the phone numbers show up as either a strange 716 area code, or 877-230-8414.  They leave a voicemail (female voice) instructing to call 800-466-5259.

Whatever you do, do NOT give them any additional information about yourself.  They are pestering me for a debt that I do NOT owe, for a bill that I never received. When you ask to have a copy of the bill sent to you, they refuse and grow more threatening.  

Best to add them to your caller ID list of numbers to ignore.
