Had a call from Capital One Fraud Dept. After discussing a problem, they gave me 800-215-1921 + extension to call them back. I later called the number on the back of my card, which is different, and verified that this number is legitimate.

Received a call from this number but I let it go to voicemail.  Message was left to call Alicia of Capital One at ext. 2901566 to discuss my fraud claim saying they had received more information from the merchandiser.  When I returned the call I entered the extension, Alisha answered, I gave her my name and told her I was returning her call.  She wanted my ss#, 16 digit card # and my DOB.  I told her I wasn't giving her my SS# and I no longer had the card so I didn't know the number.  She said I had to give her one or the other she couldn't help me.  I told her she called me she should have the information.  She told me she makes tons of calls per day and my name just came up in her Q.  She told me I should've answered her call as my name may not come up in her Q again. What?

The number is legit from Capital One Fraud Department. Trying to be cautious, so I called the number listed on Capital One website: 1-800-239-7054, and it asks for the seven digits representative code, and I entered the code mentioned in the voice mail from this number. The representative's name matches.

I was suspicious as well but it's not a scam at all.  I called the number on the back of my Capital One Card (1-800-CAPITAL) and they confirmed that this was their fraud dept.  If you have questions then I urge you to do so as well and confirm it yourself.

I called Capital One at their phone number that’s on your credit card.  I asked if this was one of their numbers.  She called this phone number, came back on the line to tell me IT IS NOT A CAPITAL ONE number!  THIS IS A SCAM BY PEOPLE IN CHINA!

This is a scam and the scammers are leaving all of the posts saying it’s not. No one from capital one will ask you for full account number OR full social security number over the phone. Don’t get scammed.

Got a voicemail asking me to call this number, with an extension, regarding a recent fraud claim. Male caller, but it was hard to hear his name (first name only given). I'd filed a fraud claim several months earlier, but I wasn't sure if the voicemail was legitimate. So I called the number on the back of my Capital One card.

The service rep (female) looked up the number and extension in her internal directory and confirmed it was indeed for a member of the fraud department. She tried contacting the extension while I was on hold, but she got his voicemail. She instead tried calling the general fraud department with me on hold, but because the guy who called me was from a sub-group, she couldn't get an update from the general department. She advised that I could wait for them to call again or leave him a voicemail. I opted for the latter. The voicemail greeting DID ask for my personal information, and I did NOT leave that info in my voicemail message. I indicated that I was returning a call, that I believed they already had my contact information and account information, and that they were welcome to call me back.

I haven't heard back yet. She also said they would try calling me back if it was important.

    The real me
This is a scam. I received a message a couple of weeks ago with a name and number to call. They left a PIN to reach their department and an extension number. This was in reference to a complaint I filed. I was told to call during specific hours. The next business day I called back. The first 2 calls I received a voicemail box.  It was over two hours past the time I was told to call by the time a person answered. Mind you, I called the number and entered the PIN then a person answered. They would not put me through to the extension number. I gave them the name and extension number and they would not connect me with them. They insisted I had to give them my credit card number for her to help me. I disagreed. I then called the number on my card for capital one. Capital one said under no circumstances should you give your credit card number or SSN to anyone who initiated the contact. The capital one representative told me to go to the capital one abuse website and file a complaint. I did.
Today I actually answered the phone when I received a call from this 800-215-1921 number. The woman wanted me to verify my date of birth and SSN so she could help me with my claim. I refused and she began talking over me. NOT a professional manner in customer service. I told her she called me so she must know who I am. I even told her I could give her details of the complaint to verify and she was not interested in hearing any of that. I then asked her to verify her name, date of birth and SSN, surprisingly she refused. I told her capital one told me that the number she called me from was NOT a capital one number. Her response was that the capital one representative wouldn’t know of this number she called me from.  This number has been reported to the National do not call registry. The next step is to report them to the federal government. FCC and cyber security need to look into this.
Punishment for these types of crimes should be severely extreme as to deter criminals.
