Report a phone call from 800-272-9440 and help to identify who and why is calling from this number.
- ElizabethReceived a call this morning - first asking me to verify my name and then zip code. When asked for my SSN, I said "No way", I asked for their telephone number and I would call them back. The individual did not know his phone number. I then called USAA direct - explained, was referred to their Fraud Dept. and after my account was checked, there had been an authorized charge which they had denied. They then confirmed other charges I had made.
I thank USAA for being diligent, but when anyone asks for my SSN on the phone, it raises a red flag.- Caller: USAA
- ARIt's legit. I was suspicious too. So checked it out and called them back. My husband and I were charging more than usual in two locations 70 miles apart. I have always appreciated USAA's service. I made them a contact so I will know who they are the next time they call.
- Caller: USAA
- jmac replies to JORIt's not "bogus", it's a legitimate number & after I inquired why they had called (discovered on my caller ID) found I was out $1300 because of fraud. I'm not a USAA member but my name was forged on a USAA application. The reason they called was because USAA was suspicious & had already blocked the card use before I had even contacted them! Could have been much worse.
- ChrisYou can see this number listed as the "Automated Security Verification" number for Credit Cards at the bottom of the page if you go to the USAA site URL:
https://www.usaa.com/inet/pages/ContactUsBank
The call is a great service protection they provide. It just prevented me from having identity theft.- Caller: USAA
- PersonAll the posts saying it is legit are bogus. I got a call from the number and I don't have a USAA card. If a credit card company wants to get ahold of you, they don't do it with automated messages. If you want to find out about anything to do with a credit card, then only do it by calling the number on the credit card.
- Call type: Telemarketer
- DubiousI got a call from this number which came up as unavailable - after seeing the posts here I called back and it indicated is was USAA Fraud Dept and asked for the last 4 digits of my card number. I did not provide and hung up. I called USAA customer service and they confirmed this was not one of their phone numbers and there had been no attempt to contact me. This is a fraud. Do not call them and do not give them any information.

- Carole H USAA Member in MDI did get this call from USAA Fraud Dept on both my cell phone and land line. It is not a scam call nor bogus as a few have claimed. Jason is correct, they do not ask for info from your card, just your zip code and they ask you to verify the last couple charges. My card number was tested for a small .38 cent amount from a place across the country, which was fraud. So my card is now deactivated and will receive a new one.

- Rich Kiefer replies to DonDitto!!! Same thing happened to me today, on 10-Dec -2014.
- TredReceived automated voice message clearly identifying USAA fraud prevention department asking for me by name, questioning credit card usage giving last 4 of card number used, and to call back the number 8002729440. I did make an online purchase hours before but still did an online search to verify number as USAA. For phone numbers I usually use google search and found multiple search results that included a page under USAA verifying the number. Called the number back and their automated system did ask if I had used a credit card and to give the last four of card number along with billing zip code info. I'm appreciative of their due diligence protecting both myself and themselves.
Side note: I do have a problem with USAA and some of their debt collector service providers contacting alleged debtors, relatives, and others, disguised as the client, reminder calls, use of deceptive tactics as surveys, credit card services (Rachel, Carmen), home personal security, and others. Associated, affiliated with GC Services, United Recovery Systems, Client Services Inc, Ocwen, AFNI, MCM, PRA, NCO, and others- Caller: USAA Fraud Prevention

- Long Time USAA UserThis is a legitimate number from USAA Fraud Alert. I had 2 charges I could not have made and had the credit card in question in my possession. Checked back on more familiar number and found that the call was legitimate.
Good job USAA. Card has been cancelled and charges disputed.- Caller: USAA
- nickJust to let people know this must be a scam as I live in the UK and have never been a member of the usaa, I can only assume the people writing its not a scam are the scammers themselves or I was rung by mistake but I doubt I was.
Do not trust it - MKI got a text and a call from this number. I'm not a member of USAA
- SLReceived answering machine with this number and the last 4 digits of a credit card. It's not my card - gave my fiance' the information, and it matched one of his; he immediately called back and apparently somebody was making a food purchase in a location that didn't match his buying habits. He's getting a new card. It was a tiny purchase but it could have gone so much farther. He SWEARS by USAA; I'm not a member but I might have to become one.
For all those crying fraud - no way. I never even heard of USAA before. I'm writing because I was blown away by how sharp they were at picking up such a teeny thing. Though if it bugs you, don't pick up the robocall and call them back instead.- Caller: USAA Fraud Protection
- Debra ShigetomiWas just contacted by USAA automated call about use of my card for a purchase of something totaling in the hundreds of dollars and from a state that I nor my husband has ever been to. Thank God the purchase was declined and a person from the store contacted USAA and alerted them to this. USAA then went ahead and red flagged our card, thus the automated call.
Thanks to USAA and their quick action as well as the store clerks quick action, we were not stuck with a purchase that we did not make. We are going to have a long and lasting friendship with USAA from here on out.- Caller: USAA
- eddie replies to USAA MemberI just had a call today 6/15/15 and looked at my credit card statements and there were several fraudulent charges on them and one that was $15,000 that USAA declined. The source came from a company called streamline in Great Britain. Streamline.com. I hardly use my card and i am unsure how they could have got a hold of my personal info.
- John RitchThis is USAA. Called to verify $5000 and $1000 charges. It was fraud and they had already denied the charges.

- elpasoCalled Customer Service at USAA because I had received an email about suspicious activity on my account. Was asked to call 800-272-9440. Customer Service said they never sent an email. I was asked to forward email, delete email, run virus scan and change credentials. Had also received three telephone calls, two on home phone and one on cell, yesterday: recorded message asking me to call about suspicious activity. Did not call back. Checked my account, nothing irregular showing.
- BarryTHIS IS A Legitimate Number. Called the number on my USAA Membership Card for Banking Services. Rep transferred me to the USAA Fraud Unit who verified 800-272-9440 is a number they use to verify certain credit card transactions.
- MaudeGot call it sounded like a recording. I would think a real person would call if they noticed strange activity on card
- Caller: Claims its usaa
- SunshineI just rec'd a call from this number. No msg. I called it back. Listened for a bit but didn't provide any info. Then went online to my USAA account and saw a different number to call and called it and spoke to USAA's fraud dept and my credit card had been compromised. When you get a call, log into your account first. You'll see an "alert" and a phone # to call that is different. You can always call their main banking line direct as well. Glad to have them looking out for me!!
