I received a letter on Discover card stationery.  It gave the number 800-347-3072 to discuss the fact that someone has opened a card in my name.  I gave them my birthdate and name, then they transferred me to their security department.  There, they wanted my SSN, MMN, etc.  I felt uncomfortable giving out personal information, so I hung up and called 800-DISCOVER, then asked for the Fraud Dept.  I asked them if the 800-347-3072 number belonged to Discover and they said yes.

    Concerned skeptic.
Received a voice mail message from (800) 347-4736 asking for verification of my credit card application.  I called back at (800) 347-3072, that was the number stated in the callback request. They stated that they believed a fraudulent application was submitted and wouldn't give me any information, stating that I needed to inform the police and contact all 3 credit bureau's (which they provided me the numbers to), as soon as possible. It sounded questionable to me so I refused to give them any information.  When they asked for my home address, I told them that if they had my information, they surely had my mailing address so I wouldn't give it to them. It sounds like a verbal phishing scheme to me and I expect that more folks will be contacted with the same questionable motive.

I have received the same call and I did not give them any info either.  It seems like a very sophisticated scam.

I received a letter from Discover thanking me for my recent Discover card application. It said in fortunately, they are unable to process my request at this time because they are unable to verify credit reference/application information. Problem is that I never applied for a Discover card. The letter lists a number 1-800-347-3072. I didn't see this number listed on the Discover.com site and when I called Discover at the 1-800-347-2683 listed at the site, the call rep couldn't verify that the number listed in the letter is valid. She transferred me to a department that could help me but a recording came on saying the department was closed. I am very reluctant to call the number on the letter.

I first received a call from this number in August on my cell phone.  The female advised that she was calling from some finance company and that a Preston Potts listed me as a reference.  I advised her that I didn't know anyone by that name.  A few weeks ago I received a call at my home number from the same company saying the Potts subject listed me as a reference.  Again, I told this male caller didn't know the person.  I stepped outside and the same male, Vincent, called my cell phone leaving a message that Potts needed to call them.  I called the number back and told them to remove my name and numbers from their records since I don't know Potts.  A week later, Vincent called again, and with a different tone, told him that he needed to remove my name and numbers from their records.  Two weeks have gone by and no more calls.  I find it interesting reading other posts back to 2008 and that others stated that Discover Card was the caller, but in my case, they said they were calling from a finance company that started with a "M."  Just a reminder to all:  Identity theft has increased immensely so protect yourself at all times and don't give out any information to anyone.

I applied for a Discover Card and they called a few times and I didn't answer because I didn't recognize the number and they didn't leave a message. Then they sent me an email saying to call them back at this number for verification and I did. It's legitimately Discover Card. They didn't ask for my SSN - they just asked me to verify a few things to make sure it was actually me who applied.

"Discover" card keeps calling, leaving a message "regarding some recent correspondence".  However, there has been none!  I have not and will not return these calls.

Recv'd call/vm from 800 347 3072/Gloria Settler re: recent application.  Told her I did not apply for Discover card and to inform the credit bureaus.  She asked for my SS#...told her I cannot give you my personal information because my bank account has been breached!  She said, "I can't remove the inquiry w/o SS#".  I told her Discover has a serious problem then with security.  She said I could call the main #800-DISCOVER (347 2683).  I don't trust anyone by phone/email etc.

i had a call from discover financial and said someone tried to open a credit card in my name. They wanted my birthdate and address to send me a letter that it had been
reported to the fraud department. I didn't give any info and I said if you have an application that you should have an address. Sounds fishy to me

1-800-347-3072  Definitely not Discover card. If anyone says otherwise then they are the [***] crooks. I opened a Discover card account and a few days later got a call from this number saying there had been 'correspondence regarding my account'. I called back and a woman said "call back in a couple hours our computers are down". I called Discover and they said there were no issues and there was no record of contacting me for any reason. 100 percent positive a SCAM. Again, anyone saying otherwise on these forums is THE SCAMMER. F U SCAMMER [***]!

Received letter from DISCOVER, sent as "presorted first-class mail, Us Postage paid, DFS"
Letter said they were currently processing My recent discover It card application, and needed to talk to me to verify or obtain information.  They requested that if I had not been contacted to please call within seven days of the date of the letter so they could get the necessary information from me or they will not be able to provide any further consideration to the application. This letter was sent to address I lived at last year, it was mailed first class, so was forwarded.

I have never sent or  have had any verbal contact with anyone concerning a "discover it" card.

In the letter they quoted  the federal equal credit opportunity act notice concerning origin, sex, national origin, marital status, age, race, color, or religion.  At the bottom of the letter they had in small writing Discover card, issued by Discover Bank, member FDIC

If this is truly Discover banking which is online, they should be held accountable for the worry and the trouble they are causing all of us. their methods are questionable, and would appear they may be in violation of federal law. Perhaps everyone should contact the bureau of consumer financial protection with the federal government. Did Anyone else ever try?

This was the number the lady told me to call back. I had just filled out an online application for a discover card. Called them back and they just had me verify a couple of things like birthday and mailing addressing. Then they said that I was approved for the card and would send the card in a couple of days
