- hbhrABSOLUTE SCAM - Caller ID says American Express. I have an AMEX card and the TRUE American Express reps (in positively EVERY department of the organization) are not only American, but are friendly and professional. The caller asks for my husband, the primary cardholder (in his foreign accent) stating he is calling on behalf of American Express. When I say he is not available they hang up on me. The REAL American Express recognizes me as the Account Manager on our account and will freely speak with me about any and all matters pertaining to our account. This is how I handled my most recent call from these low-lifes:
Me: Hello
Caller: Yeah, my name is _____ and I'm calling on behalf of American Express. May please speak with (husband's name)?
Me: No you may not.
Caller: Excuse me?
Me: We will call American Express ourselves. This is not a valid call.
Caller: Oh. Okay.
We both hung. A legitimate AMEX rep would not have responded that way!!- Caller: American Express
- hbhrBE EXTRA CAREFUL!!! After my last post, I got curious, so I called this number back and was greeted with ALMOST (not precisely) the same message that I get if I call the legitimate American Express number. The difference, and THIS IS IMPORTANT TO WATCH OUT FOR, is that when I called this number the automated menu gave me only two options. One was to enter my account number and the other was to "apply for a new card account". Either way I would be required to divulge personal information to this NOT legitimate caller. When speaking with the real AMEX if you do not punch anything in you will in very short order be speaking live with a helpful representative. When I ignored all prompts offered to me at this scam number, the call was automatically terminated.
Hope all this helps!!- Caller: American Express

First guy answered assumedly from India, could hardly understand, but when he asked for my FULL SSAN, I said no.... Here's the last four. He said he couldn't work with just that. So tough, I hung up. Called them back on same number,. Got a delightful Indian girl who spoke better English than most of my friends!!! And she NEVER asked for any part of my SSAN.... Think I'll call AMEX back and report the guy. Anyway, there were several $3 and $4 charges. That's the way thieves do it... They charge a few bucks to test the ard, then whammo, next week it's $900 for plane tickets, etc. Many are working on illegal cell phones (two in NY I've located) where they can spoof the number.- Caller: American Express, sometimes...
- ingnius knorffHey, if it is a scam then how do they get the last four of my card and connect it with my contact number. If they can do that then they don't need me to begin with...so...it is not a scam. Silly.
