JC to HBC Collector & Jacob

To the HBC Collector person - Sorry, you are wrong, your organization does not stop after speaking to the person who has submitted a payment late - they do not stop until the actual paymet has been applied to the account.  I explained two days ago that a payment had been made through internet banking - even offered to provide the confirmation number, and the calls have continued non stop for the past two days.  This is the first time I have made a lated payment (two weeks) in 14 years - not called for.
And to Jacob - I hope that you never find yourself in the position of being unable to provide payments to your creditors - however with all due respect, your comments are not called for either - My household has always had perfect credit - we have always held two very well paying jobs however due to the economic downfall in the auto industry we are both jobless - things happen that are out of a persons control - learn not to be so judgemental, you never know when you may be out of  money.

I DON'T have a HBC account or card or whatever, it doesn't interest me AT ALL and I will never subscribe to it. I am 20 and the only card I ever suscribed to was a MasterCard. So then... why are they still calling me 10 times a day, according to your theory?

They call up to 3 times a day, and it's not to tell me I'm behind in my payments. They're calling to offer me a "time sensitive" offer. I've told them I'm not interested, and when my boyfriend answers he tells them the same thing.

    Yet they keep calling.

Since they are offering to sell me something (the "time sensitive offer") they fall under the category of telemarketer and not debt collector. Perhaps it's time to sue.

You know Jacob, I have a credit card, was ok with the payments, making them on time and such until I lost my job. The credit card insurance was supposed to kick in as soon as I proved to them I was on Unemployment. They made 3 payments and stopped. I harrassed them into making another one but that was it after that. I paid for a long time for that insurance and it failed me miserably. Now, I am working again (after being out of work for 16 months) and I am constantly being harrassed by a collection agency now (the credit card company had NO sympathy for my plight, the insurance that I paid for let me down in a big way.) Don`t talk about you don`t understand why people complain....we are not all low lifes that just won`t pay our bill. Some of us really can`t make the payments due to circumstances out of our control. To be let down by the same insurance that is supposed to take care of the payments just adds icing to the cake. No friend, you offend by your opinion. Especially the ones that truly had no intention of letting payments slip, especially the ones that took the insurance and were let down by that. I am deeply offended by your comment.

There, I had MY say. Put a sock in it Jacob.

You hit the nail right on the head, the caller should check the notes before actually making the call or talking with the individual in question and Jacob should just shut up.

Dude, if it`s a redialer, then the calls DON`T stop until the payment is applied to the account. Period. Do your homework before you start spouting that tripe. I hope you find yourself on the receiving end of some of these calls, maybe it would give you a better appreciation of what you`re doing to people. The ones that just don`t pay, fine, harrass all you want. BUT, people like myself that were without a job and the famous insurance that is supposed to pay the bill failed, don`t even try to tell us that you stop calling after speaking with the individual that owns the card. That is plains BS. (BTW, you`re French, aren`t you? Could tell by how you spelled COMPANY.)

The insurance company has no business NOT paying your account, if you still have the number call them back, write down the agents name time and date, if in 2 weeks no success, call back ask for that agents supervisor, name time and date, if you still haven't had a respomse from them in 2 weeks after that call, call back 18006674363 ask for a supervisor expalin the problem they WILL get involved on your behalf. Worked for me after one of their reps told me how to proceed. I finally got the bill paid retroactively, and the credit damage reversed on my bureau.

The agents don't see the file until the call gets switched over to the client on hold, it's a popup when the transfer gets done. I agree some of these people are rude and unhelpful but like all of us they work for a company that has it's business practices, and I'm sure they get just as frustrated and pissed off about it. It can't be easy being told to [***] off and get yelled at all day long, but they have the right to make a living too, no? I used to work in a call centre and it's amazing how much abuse we would put up with, Are you aware that call centre reps have the second highest stress job in North America? Just after air traffic controllers and ahead of teachers. It's not the reps fault that acompany operates a certain way, it is their fault if they're rude or impolite that's not acceptable in business on any level. But it doesn't give people the right to be abisive towards them, are you aware phone reps are protected under the law in Quebec? And if a rep should choose to do so they can file against their abuser for harrassment resulting in fines and a criminal record? A story here in Calgary news a few years ago a client threatened to burn down a store if he ever got called again, recording was passed on to the police and he was prosecuted for it. Give the supervisors grief not the reps, the supervisors represent the mangement group that chooses to call so many times a day, enough actula complaints to them and the better business bureau may FORCE them to change their business practices. Blaming the rep is like yelling at the cashier at McDonald's because the manager [***] up and there's no Big Macs left. misdirected and hurtful. Would any of YOU aooreciate being treated like that, because a client doesn't agree with the way your palce of business operates. Just think about it. And by the way these reps aren't always helpless little geeks, a lot us are skilled athletes with serious size and if you were face to face your attitudes would be a little different I think.

Jacob, you're judging, people lose jobs or have hours reduced or the breadwinner gets very ill or passes away that affects them and credit cards become a very low priority after food, rent, medication and necessities. A good rep will help them find a payment plan, not tell them they should never have taken the card. Don't ever work in the service industry, you AREN'T able to see the WHOLE picture

    Calm and cool
I having been receiving quite a few automated calls from so called "HBC" .  Since my card is always paid up, I simply hang up once I hear it's a machine message.  If I don't answer they leave a message telling me to call HBC at the above 800 number.  Today they called about 3 times and I finally decided to call back after first checking the number out on the internet.  When I called, a recorded message answers "HBC" and they ask for your account number and when I didn't enter it the recording says they need a number.  So, to me it seems like a scam to get credit card numbers so I would not advise anyone to enter their account number.  If it really was HBC and they really wanted to get a hold of you, you would be able to hit the "O" or "#" key and get a person on the line.  So as annoying as it is, I just don't answer the phone anymore.  For those of you being woken up, all I can say is turn the ringer off until you get up.  There's no sense beating your head against a wall or getting worked up because then they are in control.

They have been calling all day today and when I answer the line is quiet. Over and over and over. I'm getting very frustrated. Even when HBC calls for other reasons they call far too often. I wouldn't get involved with them personally. I don't need them spamming up my phone line.

    Hey Collector,
I understand that it is not legal to discuss info with anyone except your "client". However, it is perfectly legal to leave a name and call back nunmber on an answering machine or voicemail. Your company does not do that. That is the frustrating part of your company tactics and techniques.
Also, people DO know that they have an HSBC card because any payments that were previously made would have been made out to HSBC.

For last few months, the number called me consistantly day and night. Also said I owe their money. They claim they are HBC. I checked HBC website, this number cannot be found. I am sure it is a malicious caller instead from HBC. When they called, someone will speak on the other end, I gave them quite a number of rough words, like XXXX XXX, XXXXXXXXXXXX. and hang up. THey call again. looks like they are bunch of zombies, no human feeling at all.
