No, the credit card companies take advantage of those in need and make millions off of people's misery. Back in the day it was considered criminal to charge interest, no less the disgusting rates of compound interest employed by big banks today.

The whole problem has nothing to due with individual's over spending or lack of responsibility. The problem is that the system is built specifically so that people will fall into debt (that is how the big banks and corps make money) It comes down to the fact that all money is borrowed from offshore banks rather than produced by sovereign nations without inherent debt attached. Nations like Canada and the USA gave up their power to create, issue and regulate currency, and this is what the results are. Nations in debt, citizens in debt.

I guess you didn't read all the messages from people who ARE always paying on time or don't even have an HBC card...who actually take the time to answer the call...but no one is on the other end...or you are put on hold immediately. That is harassment and it is also the worst publicity for your company. Downsizing can even happen in collections if the store isn't bringin in the business.

If you really were doing the job as you describe - then someone would have the respect to be on the line as soon as you answer.

Tonight was the first time this number called me.... I have recently moved and have an unlisted # but I did apply for an HBC points card. (zellers), the points card is not a credit card, you just accumulate points and can redeem them for items, I applied for the points card because I can convert them to Airmiles.... I've never had them call me before so I'm assuming they are calling to offer me a credit card. I didn't answer the call, so I can't say for sure who it was from, but if everyone else says it's HBC then that's more than likely what it's about in my case....

these people are [***]. only a person with an iq lower than the temperature would work in this kind of environment. i am a business person and when i call someone i leave a message, it is ignorant not to, just plain sense and etiquette. (most collectors will have to look that word up!) calling numerous times does nothing for me, leave me a message and a short explanation. my hbc card is not overdue, and it will be paid off soon, when it is, they are history. i stopped buying from them long ago. they called me 9 times within an hour and a half the other day and they have already been advised, by registered mail, not to call my cellphone. since they are too childish to understand, they continue to call my cell phone. now this is going to consumer affairs as a complaint (with receipt of my registered lettter. i would rather work at mcdonalds or be a walmart greeter than be a [***] collector harassing people.

    Dear HBC,
I don't answer because I have never been treated so terribly as I have by HBC callers. I am aware that I owe money, but I have been job searching for seven months and I am having a difficult time. All I need is some stranger on the line making me feel worse about myself. You are just doing your job; at the same time, your job is to belittle people. The job market is not good these days. People go in and out of money troubles, and it can be very unpredictable. It does not take a genious to understand this. I can only refuse not to have the worst conversation of my life by not answering the phone. How can I have respect for the people "just doing their job" when the disrespect coming from the caller is insane?
I am more than a decent person, I do not desreve to be spoken to that way, and you will get your money when I get mine.

I have no problem receiving calls from people I do business with. I don't do business with HBC, and I am on the do not call list. Therefore there is no legitimate reason for HBC to be calling me. It's illegal, and I'm reporting this to the CRTC. It also guarantees I will never do business with HBC.

I also have an answering machine. It's there for a reason, and anyone with a third grade education should be able to figure that out. No voicemail equals no callback. No exceptions whatsoever. You don't have to like it, but you do have to accept it. You have no choice.

They are calling me every day beginning at 7:20am until sometime in the evening.  When I do answer, I get the 'hold for the next rep..."  If you are calling me, then have a live person at the other end when I answer.  I admit that we are late on our payments, but I have been seriously ill and (trying) to work from home when I can, but they don;t seem to want to work with us.  I feel awful for owing money and do plan on making payments as I can.  I admit that I ignore the calls because the stress of them calling constantlly is making me even more ill, and there are times when I can;t even afford to make a payment, at least not the type of payment they want, so we ignore them   The stupid part is that my name isn;t even on the cards, it's my husbands name.  I used to answe the phone and tell them that he is not home, and does not get home untl after 6pm, so please stop calling me every morning as I am very seriously ill and some days have a difficult time ven getting to the phone.  They keep saying ok, and I ask them to put a note in thier system, which they flippantly tell me that they do (with a snicker), and then continue to call...the same day and every day.

My thoughts exactly, my post (L) states the same.  And you are right, they belittle people, it's absolutley disgusting.  I am also a good person, I volunteer when I am able to, I help others when I can, I love my family.  I have been seriously ill for several years and am applying for disability (after much urging by husband, family and friends) but I am not proud of it and have always been diligient, and pushed myself to the point that my health suffered for it, all because I needed to make a living and help to put my daughter through university.  Now, I have these people calling and telling us that they wil take us to court, and report us to the credit bureau etc.  At this point, I feel completely hopeless that this will ever stop.  i do not want to spend that last years of my life dealing with these inhumane people telling me what losers we are.  It's horrible and I'm tearing up just thinking about it.

Get it right replies to HBC collector
    To the HBC Collector:
I understand you are just doing your job and also that you can't ,"by LAW to discuss the reason of the call, it has to remain CONFIDENTIAL between the compagnie and the client". But 1] one of your agents told someone in my family all about MY file and I thought that was against the Law which you just said was so. I got a FORM letter after complaining (I had to complain first) Bad two (one being giving the info). It also didn't turlly state that they did wrong or appoligize, BAD three. So pardon me if I think -- boo hoo on you, you took the job don't complain about what you know you were getting into.
Yes you can legally call BEGINGING at 8, who care's what time you ,"wake up at 6am to get to work, trust us, we don't mind calling you", we may not. and yes also legal to call till 9pm. But no IT IS NOT TO CALL 7 TIMES A DAY if we don't or do pick up THAT IS HARRASSMENT Period. Collections are ONLY allowed to call ONCE or TWICE every few DAY'S -- my Brother checked!!

So don't tell me that it's some other way.
