- AlexaIt is not a scam. My boyfriend was taken to jail the other night and since my cell phone doesn't accept collect calls this company was the one to call me. I had to pay a pre pay of either $25 or $50 I chose the $25 and he was allowed to call me multiple times and once I had set up the account he was able to talk to me after I heard my balance. The first time they called they said you have a call from an inmate (and then he said his name) and then it took like 8 minutes at least to set it up and be connected over to him. However, it isn't a scam it's someone you know in jail.

- Rose M. LongI got 2 of these phony calls yesterday (7/7/09). They came in on my cell phone. When I called back and got an operator, I told her that I knew no one in a dention center. She said well you can just hang up. I told her I had limited calls on my cell and was charged every time I went into retrieve my voice messages. She said well then just fax us a copy of your bill at (866) 441-7285. And, we'll re-imburse you. Yeah Right!! Are there really people that fall for this?? After I told her my nephew was a police officer in Phoenix, I never received another call. Hmmmm??
- leena| 1 replyi did not call them but i have an inmate in jail that tried to call me the first time to let me know where he's at and the operater lend me to this number to open a new account with Global tel LInk so i can recieve a call from my inmate. Is it really a scam?
- ShellyThis call keeps coming through my business line. States that an 'inmate' is trying to place a collect call to me thru 'Global Tel Link'. I researched their website and do not find them a credible company. It's a SCAM. Never give them any of your information.
- Caller: Global Tel Link
- stickybreawe got several calls from this company and none of our friends, family or acquaintances are in prison. So I must conclude that it is a scam.
- karinaAttention people!
This is a company from people calling from jail they let the inmate record his own name of they don't do it you just would not hear it and you can make a 25 dollar payment with a credit card they will only take 25 or 50 if you want and you will then use that money to receive the calls it charges about 3 dollars for the first minute and cents from the additional so if someone you know got arrested and it's in jail they might be calling you but you may want to wait to hear a name you know because you don't want it to be a wrong number after you already paid if you don't hear the name is the inmate fault because the machine asks them to record their name

- confused womanI just received to private calls I answere an a message said that an inmate @ Los Angeles County Jail is trying to reach me to call (866) 230-7761 and accept I was wondering if u call bk does it tell u the inmates name?? I have no clue who it could be???
- TheresaWe've been receiving calls from 866-230-7761 recently re: someone from LA COUNTY Jail trying to call. I don't know of anyone who is incarcerated, so called the number to try to find out who is trying to reach me. Customer Service Rep. claimed that they do not have access to information about who is trying to contact me. I asked to speak to a supervisor; my call was disconnected.
I then googled number, and discovered scam information here (and elsewhere).

Note that the first time you are called by the real Global Tel Link automated system, you are informed that the call is from an inmate at the correctional facility, naming both the inmate and the facility, and that the call may be monitored and recorded. If you are told that they don't have inmate information you are talking to the fraudulent "scam" company.
Destination Prepay
A Service for Family and Friends
Family members and friends of inmates can set up an AdvancePay™ prepaid calling account for their respective telephone numbers using credit cards, money orders, checks or through Western Union. Calls that may otherwise be blocked can now be completed through GTL’s AdvancePay™ program.
Free Chat™ Feature
A first-time called-party can use the FreeChat feature with the inmate before the party is prompted to setup an AdvancePay account. The FreeChat service is provided only once per destination number. The automated operator´s opening message to the first-time called-party includes the standard branding announcement (that informs the party that the call is from an inmate at the correctional facility, naming both the inmate and the facility, and that the call may be monitored and recorded). Prior to being prompted to accept or reject that call, the party is informed that collect calls are not permitted to that number and the FreeChat and AdvancePay options are explained.
If the party accepts the call, GTL makes the final connection so the inmate and called-party can talk. After using FreeChat, the automated operator breaks into the call and begins the set-up process for establishing an AdvancePay account so customers can accept future calls.- Caller: Global Tel Link Imposter

- chrisI have been getting calls from 518-243-6172 for a couple wks now-- is a recorded msg from Schen Co Jail--asking if I want to accept collect calls then press this #--or if not press this #-- except the # for not accepting is same as ending the call--so they keep coming at all different times of day. If you elect to accept the call--they want you credit card or other pay method--This is annoying. I did not know any inmates at this jail--do not know how the hell they got my cell #--I am mad. I did call FCC and have been registered with do not call.gov since last yr. The calls keep coming. OMG. I google the # -comes back to ACC National Telecom Corp--try to call them--you get nothing.does not ring at all. Bizzare.

- Anonym replies to miss tI just rec'd a call from the same number, called Global tel, and they said that is a legit # - it's their prepaid call line. They told me someone had actually tried calling me (they can check their records), but couldn't tell me who it was or even if it was a wrong number. So, while there may be a scam out there, at times, this isn't necessarily a scam.
- karenthis is REAL. it's the billing dept for global tel link or something like that. it's the billing dept for a company that allows inmates to call you. you have to set up a prepay acct.
it's legit, not a scam.- Caller: global tel link
- garyRecieved 1 call with hang up on my private number on 11/30, on dec1, received 3 calls with 1 message left. I called the above number and they called me back, I told them in explicit terms to block my number and if they ever call again, I will pursue harrassment against them.
