Had a call from these folks. The called my mom and left a number and extension. Called left message with extension. Her name was Aubry Aurback, ext 57852. Checked with AMEX and they confirmed this was bogus.

I got some call and requested some info, and when asked for a number to call back they gave this number. 866-379-3643. Went American Express web sint and called the Customer service number under contact-us to verify if the number is really an Ax. number.

Per Ax C.S. 866-379-3643 is NOT an american Express Number
• Caller: Said that from American Express

The agent who called me from the 3643 number was asking me to provide my social and DOB in order to verify an application I had submitted in the mail to Amex. But how do I know if someone who is not really Amex stole my application in the mail and wants my info to commit fraud or identity theft? If you go to www.americanexpress.com and call any of their 800#'s (I called 800-223-2670), then there is no need to call 866-379-3643. The reps at the 2670 number can assist you especially if you have a reference number from the alleged Amex rep who called you. After speaking with the Amex rep at the 2670 number, it appears the 3643 number is legitimate, however, it is always safer to call any of the phone numbers the official website uses. Better to be safe than sorry when it comes to giving your social security number, date of birth, etc., over the phone.

I just received a call from a guy called Harry saying he was from Amex Fraud Dept. He said he was calling about my recent application for a new Amex Card. I told him I had not applied for a card. He acted surprised. Then he asked for my birth date. I told him someone had applied for a card fraudulently, I had already call Amex and cancelled/reported the card and was not going to give him any information over the phone. I then call the "real" Amex fraud department and reported this. Amex told me I was correct in not giving out information over the phone. Amex acted a bit odd. It might be that one part of their Fraud Dept does not know what the other part of the Fraud Dept is doing?

866-379-3643 is a valid AMEX phone #, and if you get a call from them and they leave something like a case # or ID # that starts with A0000FP(xx) you'd better call them back - I got several calls last week from them, called, they asked me for my SS #, which I refused, couldn't confirm 100% it was actually AMEX calling, gave them the ref. #, they said someone tried to open a CC account, asked if it was me - I said NO, and they canceled the application (gave them the last 4 digits of SS #). Today I got a letter in the mail from Capital One saying someone may have opened a CC account in my name, and to call to confirm - just got off the phone with them, and somebody actually DID open a CC in my name using stolen data - immediately canceled it and started filling out an affidavit at https://www.identitytheft.gov/, now need to get a police report and have a credit freeze put on all my credit reports - the thief has already gotten my TransUnion report! I got my Experian report, and it showed the date the thief made an inquiry on my credit. WARNING FOLKS - if you get a call from this phone #, DO NOT IGNORE IT - someone has stolen your identity and you need to take immediate steps to protect your credit!

Received a phone call from this number. The called identified himself, but I was unable to understand his name. He said he was calling from American Express to verify that I had applied for a credit card. I told him I had not applied and he stated that he would deny the application. I then called American Express and talked with someone on in their fraud department who told me he could not verify if an application had been made without my social security number. I was unwilling to give this over the phone and he said he could not help me. I then put a fraud alert on my credit report companies and found that American Express had indeed requested a credit report. Not sure what to do now......

First, what should be obvious: you can't trust anything you read here, since anyone can post anonymously, including the scammers. The ONLY thing you can do about this is to call the number on the back of your AMEX card. When I did, they said they could find no problems on my account. They said they would report the phone number left on the message to their fraud department, but that doesn't mean it's fraudulent, it just means the AMEX guy I talked to didn't know one way or the other So that's it. Just keep an eye on your account. BTW, I did call the number, she asked for my SS#, which I didn't give, but she then settled for my name (which she already had, since it was used it in the message). She then said she could see nothing on my account that would have motivated the call. So there it is. Sounds fraudulent to me, but there's really no way to tell. Just don't give them any information.

I just spoke with people at this number twice. They are American Express. They process applications and verify information. I have also spoken with their fraud dept. who verified the number as a new account dept.. They do not make you give personal info, however they request it. Just refuse to give it!

A man with a British accent said he was calling from American Express and wanted to talk to---he named a name no one here recognizes. He apologized and said, "I'll take this number off the list."

I received nearly simultaneous calls from this number on August 27 asking for information and telling me that there had been two applications for AMEX cards filed in my name. When I switched to the second call and then switched back to the first one, and told the woman on the first call that I just got another call, she said "oh yes, that is my colleague xx (an indian name I didn't catch), he is sitting right next to me." I wouldn't supply any information, gave them an alternate address (not my billing or tax address) and they said they would send me a victim report, that I need to file a police report and then send the police report and several other identifying documents to them. The address they gave when I looked it up on google maps was for American Express Bank in SLC. I have yet to receive by mail the victim report. I am now on the line with customer service at AMEX and they say the number is their new accounts line and we (the agent and I) are now waiting to see what they have. On the day of the calls, I immediately called both LifeLock and CSID (I suscribe to both because of prior identity theft) and neither had record of any inquiries. So clearly an additional person/scam ring has at least my phone number and my name....
