- Tffdydubs replies to JennyParanoid? Yeah I got a letter yesterday addressed to my mother that passed away 11 months ago, stating they needed more info before opening her account! Paranoid? I don't think so!
- CindyHi All, I lost my ssn card, and then I got a call from this number saying somebody applied for an American Express card on my name... And I actually checked with American Express custom service, turned out it was not a fraud... This number truly belongs to American Express.
- benyeah, I just confirmed it was Amex. I applied for a new card and it was pending, had to give them my SS# which I don't like but they confirmed it and approved me card.
- Caller: amex
- Fermin replies to CcIt is American express. They had call me from that number and I have received the card.
- DavidBCalled Twice with same reference number. Stated that it was in reference to a request made in my name. Different callers left the same reference number:AG4n8. Had similar call last year.
- Caller: Did not leave name; Amex
- DGI read thru the comments. The person that called me from 8663793643 (Sam) left a message with another number to call and a reference #.
I literally just called the 18005671083 number back after receiving a message from Sam. He called me from 18663793643. . Sam also left me a reference #. When I called back I got the automated service. Put in some info myself and it sent me to Charlotte. So here are my pointers:
1) Did you recently apply for an AMEX card? Either way you should talk to the person because if it isn't legit, you need to be aware that it happened and report it. I had applied.
2) I refused to give my full SSN. However, if you did apply, they will need something to get into the system that holds your application (I think I got that right). Well, when I first did my application, I received an email with a reference #. Charlotte accepted that to get into the system. Then I gave her the reference number Sam gave me.
3) Finally to ensure it was me (double checking the info on my application) she asked for my name, DOB and last 4 digits of SSN.
4) Before she could tell me I was approved, I received an email from AMEX letting me know I had been approved and welcome to the family.
The number is LEGIT IF you applied for an AMEX card. Be wise and vigilant when applying for credit. Hope this helped.- Caller: AMEX
- BMillI just called AMEX to confirm the number and it is an official AMEX number, this is not fraud.

- D Barkerreceived two calls from this number and someone is trying to open an american express account in my name
- John doeSeems to be legitimate number from new card fraud dept. though I have never had or applied for an Amex card. Called an 800 number that I looked up online for Amex and they couldn't find any aplications under my name or phone number. Reluctantly gave them the last four of my ssn and they still couldn't find an application so I'm not sure how they got both my home phone and cell number but I got put on a do not call list and verified that I haven't applied for a card. Am going to call back later with the case number they left on machine to double check.
- Andrew PI researched the number both through AmEx Chat and calling AmEx directly, it is their new accounts department, and is not a scam. They were calling to verify information regarding a new account application.

- victimJust got a call from this number, as many stated in the forum here, and said that he (an Indian accent) is from AMEX, asked if I had requested a new account. I said no, he asked for the last 4 digit of my SSN, I stupidly gave that, and as he was proceeding to get more info, I asked him how do I know if he is from AMEX. He immediately said I could call AMEX to verify, and hung up the call.
I called back AMEX number listed on my card, and requested to fraud department, verified that - no new request for a new account from me, an no such outbound call either.
So, THIS A FRAUD! IMPOSTER! Don't fall in the trap. I don't even know where to report this other than looking for comments on the 866 379 3643 number.- Caller: 8663793643

- ShannaReceived multiple voicemails from this number claiming they were calling in reference to a recent American Express request. Called the 800 number on back of my credit card and they confirmed the number was for AMEX New Accounts. They transferred me to the New Accounts depart and asked for the reference # given on the voicemail. They stated it was for new credit card application and after I told them I didn't request a new account they put fraud alert and would not process the application.

- JessThe American Express New Accounts Team will dial out from a common phone number 8663793643 when something unusual about an application for a new card has been submitted. As an example, if fraud prevention and identification believes that someone is using another's identity to submit an application, the department may reach out to confirm, you are the person who has submitted the application. People are often surprised by the call, and may believe it to be phishing and not realize the reason they're receiving the call is because there was something suspicious about the application. - K replies to skepticalI got a call/vmail telling me to call a certain number and they also left me a 4 digit code. They suspect someone tried to apply for an AmEx card in my name. I called the regular Amex cust service # and they verified that when someone leaves a 4 digit code that is because they received a flag that someone applied for a credit card in my name. I have a common name, and even with the last 4 digits of my SS, they couldnt verify for sure because there were too many people with my same name. I dont get how they cant verify with the last 4 digits and my name, that someone actually applied for a card in my name. nothing in my credit report I looked at thru Credit Karma, showed any hard inquiries or soft inquiries from AmEx. I have the names of everyone I spoke to. Im still not comfortable giving out my SS# over the phone and I find it quite incredible that in this day and age of fraud, that they have not come up with some way to check on these things in a secure manner without telling someone our numbers. I did not give them my SS#
