These cell phone service people PISS ME OFF, how the hell are you going to give our numbers to telemarketers without our permission? Isn't that invading our PRIVACY?? I would definately show concern when getting any prison number on your cell phone unless your "inmate" buddy has one hiding in his cell. Otherwise as far as I know a true inmate can NOT call you on a cell phone. In fact my brother in law is in prison system and I pay my phone bill ONLINE...and I do NOT provide my credit card information on the cell phone...NEVER, EVER!! So call GTL 1-800-231-0193 and they will ask for your number that is getting the prison calls and they will verify whether or not they have verification that someone TRULY is calling from a GTL Correctional facility. My mom was getting these calls EARLY in the morning and I called GTL and the automated voice said they did not have any records of an inmate calling that number. THIS IS TOTAL ABUSE OF PRIVACY WHEN THE CELL PHONE COMPANIES RELEASED OUR CELL NUMBERS TO THE TELEMARKETERS!!! Call the National DO NOT CALL list and in 30 days this should stop the telemarketers from calling 888-382-1222. I hope this helps!

its a real number...my ex calls me all the time...you do have to put in all your credit card info if you accept but the thing is sometimes it takes so long to do the credit card thing, by the time its done the inmate may have hung up thinking you didnt accept, thats why it will disconnect after you give your info!!

    Its a real call.
This is a real call from a county jail or a state prison. Call the number back and set up an advance pay acount if you wish to speak to your loved ones. Or you can call your phone provider and have inmate collect calls blocked.

PLEASE PEOPLE DO NOT ANSWER ANY CALLS FROM THIS PHONE NUMBER IT IS SPAM and definitely a big SCAM!

They falsely call you. They generally get numbers from your resumes that you may have publicly posted online. They call you and make you THINK that someone from your LOCAL COUNTY JAIL is calling you collect. They ASK you to create a pre-paid account in order to accept the phone call. DO NOT ENTER YOUR CREDIT CARD INFORMATION! Because once you enter your credit card information, they will say that your card has been decline and the call will disconnect... leaving them with your credit card number! I entered a fake credit card number to see how far the prompt goes... so that's how I know all of this information. PEOPLE PLEASE USE CAUTION!

Oh yeah, the people who are so called posting that they are receiving calls from their loved ones... they are LIARS! For one... I didn't know inmates could call you multiple times a day at multiple hours because that stupid number keeps calling me. Two... if you have ever watched a movie... then you should know that when you receive a collect call from an inmate they state the inmates first and last name. Come on people... be smart and stay alert!

Keep getting calls stating "from LA County Lockup Facility". However, a name is never told. Since I don't know the phone number showing on my Caller ID, I do not answer. I don't know anyone who would be calling on my cell phone. Anyone I know would have call my home number also, if they were in a lockup facility. Wish they would stop calling!!!!!!!

Yeah, Suwanda, it's obvious you've never had a loved one incarcerated. Inmates are able to call A LOT of the time and they are able to make multiple calls a day. When they ar classified at the prison, they have a choice to record their name. They do not have to. That explains why there was no name stated. And when you gave the company a fake credit card number to see if it was a scam or not they declined your credit card because it was fake, not because it was a scam. Global Tel Link is a real company and I have an active account right now for my loved one who is in prison. If you feel uneasy about answering calls from prison, don't.

This is fake because one time i did answer it when my loved one was in jail and it was a man whom i didnt knw telling me to bail him out ... he was crazy ... so now when i get this call i dnt answer them .... so whoever says this is NOT a scam explain that ??? and when my loved one really did call me it was a free call and he stated his name.

I have recieved three calls like this now.  A friend of mine said they went through this a few years ago.  Have a brother, husband or any male answer your phone or set your voicemail or answering machine message.  Once the prisoner knows there is a male attached to this number he moves on to his next target.

I don't appreciate it either.  I tried to report it to the national do not call listing as I am on it and it would not take it.  Global telelink showed up as the number.  Why do prisoners have access to call unknown people?  It should be stopped.

It showed up as "private" one time and then the 8668000234 number showed up.

Actually, my loved one did state their name, in their own voice and I know for a fact he's there. Also, the website for the place he's at does say there are several payphones for them to use... So we're not all liars. Be smart and alert and don't believe everything you see in the movies. It could just be someone with a wrong number.
