Number appears in a phishing email I have now received twice regarding a supposed overdue bill with Verizon

For 3 weeks or so I've been calling Verizon for help with a phone phishing scam being perpetrated in Verizon's name. I've gotten little or no help. I continue to receive calls telling me that my Verizon bill is overdue and that I should call 866-803-4839 to reconcile the difficulty. (I 'GOOGLED' the number and found that many people have experienced the same difficulty.) I've not called the number for fear of more phishing, but a Verizon representative checked it out and told me it would be unwise to call the number, because it was a payment matrix number unassociated with Verizon. I requested it be investigated last week and again yesterday. ... Today I received another (identical) phishing phone call. Hmmmm... Isn't it possible, for a company as large and specialized in communications as Verizon, to investigate what appears to be serious scam effecting so many customers? Isn't it reasonable for me to expect I will be protected by the company I've been doing business with for some 40 or so years? I'm sure there are plenty of customers that would be drawn in by this ruse. ... COME ON, VERIZON. RESOLVE THIS ISSUE NOW!

I received the following message sent to my cell phone from 888-519-3894

"Verizon with an urgent message regarding your recent change to FIOS service which could include video and/or data service as you were advised in the letter that was recently sent to you.  We know how important it is for you to have your service with FIOS reinstated.  To choose the best payment option available to you call us on 1-866-803-4839.  Or visit us on the web at verizon.com/payonline.  Verizon thanks you for your prompt attention."

Since I was not aware of any equipment needing to be returned, I called the phone number and I was prompted to enter my phone number and account number.  I was then not able to speak to a person.  I became suspicious and contacted 800-VERIZON and they confirmed that they had no record of equipment needing to be returned and that the phone number was not a Verizon number.  I then put a password on my account.  I provided Verizon with the information about the incoming and return phone numbers in September, but today both of these numbers are still operating.

I never received any documentation in the mail.

This seems like a suspicious way of getting charges attached to my bill.

I am filing a complaint with the FTC and I hope you do too.

w verizon to continue letting this happen. Ever since I got my phone with verizon I've got
nothing but these crazy long distance numbers, or lots of unknowns leaving no message.
The ones that do show a number, I called back to tell them take me off your list. Most had no
answer. My phone rings off the hook and its never anyone I know. I don't even pay attention
anymore, which has costs me to miss some important calls, my bad. But what gives verizon??

Still going on 4 years later... 4/15/14 received the call. Unbelievable that this is going on so long.

I am getting a message to call on an unpaid Verizon bill bUT I do not owe money. This is a scam. Also they are not leaving the message on our main account holders VM. I would not give your account info to this number! !

I got dunning calls on my cell phone from this number everyday for 2 weeks telling me to pay my final bill.  I talked to Verizon and they said it was a separate contract division they use to collect overdue or final bills.  I did owe for a final month on my disconnected phone but would never pay via the number they give which charges an additional 3.50.  Just another way to squeeze a bit more out of you. I called the number they gave for questions and got shuffled between numerous departments & people all telling me I owed more than I actually did.  When I could finally get to someone who could access my "final bill" they acknowledged without apology that the bill was never sent.  They wanted twice what was owed.  After 3 days, many hours on the phone, and being hung up on more than once, I finally got a billing agent who was honest and accepted the correct amount for full payment,  What an outfit!

Verizon wanting to talk to me over disconnected service and a final bill to be paid. Problem is, I've never had Verizon service of any type in my life ever. I talked to them and my number is associated with a customer account of theirs. I told them to remove my number because I was the one getting the calls. I have blocked four (4) of their numbers; now I'm getting calls from yet another number. I told them they will never reach the person by calling my cell number so to stop. They then tried to blame ME asking how long I had, had my cell phone number (this has been my phone number for over 10 years at this point). Right now, this is harassment. I will be contacting the bureaus about this.

the recorded message states that I owe a closing bill to Verizon  (which is NOT the case)   and to  pay the bill call that number and give credit card number.  It is definitely a scam.

This is a scam; I confirmed with VZ. Also have been getting phishing emails, reported and confirmed as well. Calling from 888-423-0900 telling you to call 866-803-4839 with your payment info.

Call scam says it's verizon but it's not really verizon..beware do not call back this number.verizon refuses to investigate,they may lose my business  soon

They called and left an automated voicemail in a woman's voice saying, "Hello, this is Verizon with an urgent message regarding a letter sent concerning your high speed internet account. Your high-speed internet account is scheduled for interruption. we know how important your high-speed internet service is to you. To pay your high-speed internet bill now have your full account number available and go to verizon.com/payonline or call 1-866-803-4839 to pay over the phone. Your account will be noted immediately so you do not need to contact us. Should you need additional information, please call1-888-423-0900. Thank you. Verizon appreciates your business."

The only reason I didn't panic is because one of my patients turned me onto an app called, "Tru Caller" and it registered as SPAM in big red letters. I don't know whether I should call back just to mess with them or not!!!

Basically, same content as above.  Phishing in the name of Verizon.

I received a call today from this number stating that they needed to talk to me about the recent Verizon equipment purchased on my plan by Brittany L. Welch.  That is not my name nor anyone I know.  I am ignoring the call. Definitely a phishing scam.
