We just received a robo-call from 1-866-840-4246 also claiming to be Progressive calling for my husband (he is named on the policy).  Said if I was him to Press 1.   Being suspicious, I did.   They wanted to verify that he had another license in another state.  He does not and never has.   It said I could confirm it on the phone or call back at 1-800-Progressive.  We have not phoned back.  I see others have gotten the "dual license" message too.  This is disturbing and we will be calling them after looking up a legitimate number.

I received several calls, and finally a message from Progressive asking me to call a toll free number.  After seeing the posts here, I decided not to call back but instead contacted Progressive through their web site.  They did in fact make the call. They had an old drivers license number in their records from a previous state.  I was able to provide the new number in a chat session.  Looks like this is legit.

I never answer calls from numbers I don't know, especially 800 numbers. When I call back it claims to be Progressive looking for updated drivers license information but it's definitely not Progressive insurance. My preferences are set up to contact through email only, I'm not even sure they have my cell phone number. SCAM SCAM SCAM!!

Got a phone message. Said it was Progressive and wanted me to call back and enter a "message code". I do have Progressive, but my policy is up to date on all counts. I'm NOT calling them back

Got a call from this number today. They said I had an out of state license number on record, and needed my dob to verify it was me. I asked him to note in the computer that he spoke to me, and I would call progressive back to verify it was them. He said it didn't work that way. I hung up on him and called progressive. They said they I'd have an out of state license on record, and they do have a calling system in place, but would NEVER ask for a dob on the phone. Its against their policy. So, seems to me that some very intelligent phishers came up with the scam. Maybe progressives system was hacked? Its not them though! Don't answer!!

All of the commenters on here are a bunch of effing idiots. Didn't you know that date of birth is PUBLIC RECORD? If they know your name and number then they know your date of birth (or can easily access it). Gimme your name and state, and I'll tell you your street address, dob, if you've ever filed bankruptcy, value of your home, any law suits you've been involved in and who your relatives are. Nothing's private anymore, folks.

4th call in 2 days, today this automated call rqstd a call back w/a msg number,  code that was given could not pull up a message....dah!!  already tagged this as a phishing call so I was surprised when I was given a bogus message number. call came in on 866-840-4246 asked to call back to 866-840-4148

Called three times today. Finally left a message on third attempt. Checked online and updated my spouse's license number.

Don't think it's a scam, but easier to call them back at the national number or update info online.

I received 3 calls from this number today.  the first was 2 seconds of silence.  The second left no message, and the third left an automated message asking me to retrieve an important message from Progressive.  I did not call back because nothing about these phone calls seem legitimate.

I got a missed call from this number with no voicemail message. After checking this site, I contacted Progressive via online chat. They confirmed they were calling because my driver's license and insurance policy are in separate states, and wanted to update their information if it wasn't up to date.
It's possible that they are outsourcing these calls to another company, which is why their methods seem off, but the call was legitimate as far as I can tell.

It is Progressive. I got the same call. You can change it yourself online if giving out your DL is uncomfortable on the phone. They will even tell you so. Right after giving him the information, my updated information was seen online. I don't know why it took two years for them to catch that I had a new DL number in a new state... but hey, things happen.

They call me super early in the morn and late at night up to 9 and 10pm! Calling me multiple times a day never leave message. I'm adding to block list. Legitimate companies leave messages and have my email and don't call three times a day and at 10pm!

Robocall called from the  8668404246 # and said they were Progressive & asked about a specific person on my auto policy.  I didn't hit the right option and so it gave me another # to call & a code to get the message.  I called the other # and input the code # but got no message.  Then i hung up.  Dunno why I answered in the first place (as a rule I NEVER answer a call from a # I dont recognize) but in this case I just happened to be waiting for a callback from a totally different company....so I answered it much to my regret.

The really annoying thing is that *immediately* after doing this, within 10 minutes I got 2 calls from unknown #s.  (not 1-800's) and then 5-6 more phone calls from all over the place by that evening, a couple sales texts from 2 other #s today.  This stands out to me a 'not a coincidence' becuase my current phone # has had nearly zero spam calls in the last 2 years I have it...and now suddenly 10 misc. spam calls/texts within 10 minutes of answering this call?

PuhLEEZE, if this is truly Progressive, or one of their partners, then it is also apparently a scam to harvest 'phone #s where a human answers' so they can sell that data immediately to every shady fly-by-night vendor they are associated with.

I received a call from 1-866-840-4246, but the message said to call back the number 1-866-840-4148.  Message says they are Progressive insurance, but they are NOT.  I contacted Progressive (via IM) to alert them about this and they said:

"I just spoke with my supervisor and the call you received was not from Progressive. We may call and leave you a message to contact us; however, the number to contact us back will be for our Progressive Service Center (1-800-776-4737).  Also, we will not give you a code to enter to receive a message."

This looked suspicious, but it turned out to be legit. It was progressive trying to confirm that I do have a driver licence in the state I have the policy in. I had moved states after I signed up for the policy. I did't provide any information on the call I received. Instead I called back to Progressive CS #, and they confirmed that the call was legit.

Just got a call from this number - after there have been no posts for years - no message. I would not give anyone at this number any information - I have had someone in another state ordering items online on my HD credit card yesterday, and someone in Mexico City, Mexico using my debit card last week - and think that this may be part of a larger identity theft problem.

I got three robocalls from this number today.  After reading the comments below, I noticed that all of us seem to be Progressive customers, so I called them and they confirmed that this is NOT their number and they have NOT been trying to reach me.  DO NOT GIVE THESE PEOPLE ANY INFORMATION!!!!!!!

Received a call from this number at 9:31am Central Time. I did not pick up, nor did they leave a message.

Ugh, so I've gotten several calls from this number (similar experience with either no voicemail or 1 second of silence). Finally answered the call, was suspicious, and got online to chat with Progressive. Turns out that it's a legit automated call that happens when your DL doesn't match the state on your policy (which in my case isn't a mistake since I'm a student). A quick online chat with Progressive lets you update your policy to make the calls stop!
