When I called back it said "This number is no longer in service." Then how do they call out?

This number calls me everyday. Sometimes more than once.   I finally called it back. It said, This number is no longer in service. How do they call out if it's no longer in service?

I kept getting a call from this # 866-948-0583..I answered it and no one answered...Called the number back and it saying it was "NO LONGER IN SERVICE"...so who is this and what are they after?

Actually, a lot of times it is indeed a cold call but they're not trying to find out what time you're home.  Autodialers continously dial phone number but they don't always have someone available to pick up when someone answers, so the call gets "dropped."  And, to be honest, I highly doubt your 'trick' would work.  It might work if you use the tone that precedes the message that "this call cannot be completed as dialed" but not from pressing the # repeatedly.  When you get the message about "if you would like to make a call..." that means the call has long since disconnected from the original caller; so you can press # to your heart's content, it won't make a difference to the autodialer because you're no longer connected to them.  The autodialer, and its masters, are not there to hear you pressing buttons.  ;-)

Whoever these yo-yos are, the called my DNC listed private phone, but there was no one on the other end.  The call will be reported to the FCC as an abandoned call.

When I answer, there's no one there.  When I call the number back, it tells me it's no longer in service.  Frustrating!

Getting tired of the constant calls.  Almost wonder why I have a phone, when the telemarketers use it more than I do.

Call hang up at 425 pm.  Apparently hung up as soon as answering machine came on.  When I get home I do a *69 to see if some jerks have been calling.  Yes, they sure have been lately.  A lull after the election -- but they are baaacccckkkk for whatever reasons.  I was so pleased when the political robo calls quit since they are not on the DNC list.  Only get about one a week from politicians about a town hall or something.  Better than drowning in them.  However, illegal robo calls will not stop until their numbers are constantly reported to the FCC and they can figure out a way to track them down based on the "pattern" that they use for calling.

Good chance that they are using some special software that displays incorrect info on the caller ID. The number shown isn't their actual number, which may be why if you call it back there is no answer and it's quickly disconnected. Or you get a recording the number not in service.

calls over and over but never leaves message----need to block this one for sure

calls frequently but never leaves a msg...so I finally blocked it...wonderful new addition on phones

they spoof or block the call id it a voip they can do more than a wire phone

Just received a call from this same number and no one was there when I answered it.  I called back and got a recording that stated that the number was no longer in service.  Go figure.  SCAM SCAM SCAM.  Everyday someone tries to SCAM someone.
