I'm not a collector but I know a few people that are and your statement above is oh so ignorant. The bottom feeding scum are the hundreds of people that sign up for a service and don't have the responsibility or decency to call their providers and inform them of their situation and why they can't pay. An account has to be in severe default before companies assign it to a collection agency AND the debt it not "sold" it's retained and the agency gets a commission on every account... I would know a little more about a topic before I start bringing in political theories lol. Also, there are many laws the government has placed on collectors now ie Legislation. Look it up! Knowledge is power! Car salesman are way more greasy than collectors... There is so scam involved when a consumer for whatever reason fails to pay their bills.

I just received a call (they left a message) - very shady seeming since they didn't leave a company name and the operator who called left only her first name (and when I typed her extension in when I called back, it also only stated her first name when it went to her direct line).  Not sure if that's standard for collection agencies to protect them or something.  Anyway, I knew I shouldn't be receiving a call from her agency, but called to make sure they wouldn't keep bothering me.  She asked me if my name was [first name] [wrong initial] [last name].  When I said my middle initial wasn't that, she said 'oh okay, let me check another detail with you as maybe I have the wrong [first name]" - she then gave me a birth year and it was way off, so I told her it wasn't me, again.  She apologized for any inconvenience to me and we hung up.   Hoping it doesn't mean my info has been compromised, but she didn't have any info that matched me beyond first and last name...

Recieved Robo call regarding a person I have never heard of-left this call back number and provided a case reference #.  I called back and spoke to a human being.  Person asked if I knew the individual and if I recently recieved this phone number.  I told them that I did not know the person and had had the number for over 12 years.  They said, "OK, Sorry sir!   We will remove that number from the referenced case."

That was it...no arguement.  No additional questions.

We don't have anything in or near being called into collection. This is a collection agency however not all the agents are trained in customer service. I called back and have hard hearing. She was speaking in a dialect I've never heard before. I told her that I wanted to follow-up to a couple calls I'd received.

She said, "OH no, no mistake here. I don't make mistakes!" She was loud and unwilling to listen. Honestly, the call totally had me baffled. IT sounded as if I was the agent and she was the customer, raised voice, didn't want to speak to me to try to figure out who the bill might belong to.

When my good ear was vibrating, I told her I must go as I was not feeling well. You call back you hear or I'll.....  hmm, she'll what?......

Multiple calls from this number, happened after i recieved an email from capital One credit cards, opened it but did not fill any info out, now i recieve a call from them every other day, this is a scam please do not give any of your personal info to them if your lucky enough to actually speak to a life representative

so what can they not do?

Collection agency.  If you're guilty well, good luck.  If you aren't, call them and ask them to remove you from their list.  They leave a reference#, provide it and they will ask if you are the name of the person they are trying to collect from.  Clearly you're this far, so you aren't, and then they remove you from their list.  Easy peasy.

They called asking for by a name that sounds like my father with a few letters off and my father has been passed since 2010.  I called them and let them know they are asking for someone who has passed and even gave the correct name and then proceeded to ask what is my relationship with the person and said the wrong name and I hung up. This definitely a scam don't even bother calling back.

This company tries to collect old debts that are past the Statute of Limitation.  In Ontario, the debt is no longer collectable after two years so just ignore their calls.  If you have call display, do NOT answer the phone.  They cannot take any action against you because the two year period is long past.

Got a call today for someone, but I couldn't tell who (machine poor quality recorded voice). Based on comments  here I have added them to auto reject list on mobile phone.

Actually...there are legit collection agencies and then there are ones like this one. Debts are bought for pennies from creditors that have long since washed their hands of your debt. You do not owe these collection agencies money. They are merely trying to make money off of you and usually the original debt amount has doubled when they start asking for it. Just tell them you don't owe them any money because you don't. Also...any debt collector is not allowed to contact you more than 3 times a week. Which means speaking to you... emailing you or leaving voice mails. The only way around this is if you don't answer and they don't leave a message. They are also not allowed to contact you until 6 days after a letter has been mailed to you informing you of their name, the amount of the debt and the company they are collecting for.
So....maybe you don't know as much as you think!

CCA is legit. They called metoo. I think I must have forgot to pay my taxs because after I mailed them a money ordr for $430.00 my bill was cleared up. And they called me back to tell me there was only some interest of $136.00 that I could send them soon. So I am quite happy now and no furthr action will com my way.

Didn't answer and searched online to see who called. After reading others experiences here, I blocked them.
