This call is from IQOR.  They are a debt collection agency.  The following is a "cut and paste" from CanadianLawSite.ca:

Ontario - The Ontario Limitation Act 2002, came into force on January 1, 2004. It sets two years as the term (Section 4). This limitation will be reinstated where the debtor acknowledges the debt or makes a partial payment towards repayment of his debt. If the default occurred prior to January 1, 2004, the creditor will continue to have 6 years to pursue the claim. However, if the default occurred after January 1, 2004 then the 2-year rule applies.

What that means in Ontario is that whoever you owe money to has 2 years to get their money.  IQOR and others like them know this, but are banking on you NOT knowing it.  There will be threats of ruining your credit rating, but even that has a limit...after 6 years, no one can find out about what you might have owed in the past.  But again, IQOR will happily go beyond that limit, hoping to scare you into paying.

I am a target of IQOR.  My "debt" is with Bell ExpressVu.  Yep, I "owe" them almost $300.  But, they made a billing mistake.  That went on for over a year, and they said they would fix it but never did.  Late fees, interest fees, and a screw up on their part to cancel my account when I told them to ran that bill to $289 or so.  (I forget the exact amount)  I offered over and over to prove to them (and I could) that they were wrong, but the flunkies at Bell that you have to deal with would not hear my side of the story.  So, I am on IQOR's hit list.  The earliest they've called is 8:00 am or so, and never later than 8:00 pm.  I have call display, and the awesome irony to that is that I am using one of Bell's services to ignore these calls.

Don't sweat the calls you get from IQOR.  They work on intimidation, and have very little else in their arsenal.  If you don't have call display, get it.  And then have yourself a little chuckle each and every time they waste their time with you.  At the risk of being condecending, the "agents" working for these places are the bottom of the barrel.  They can't get a real job, so they settle for sitting at a desk, dialing countless numbers every day, hoping for the odd hit.  They get a commision for any money they squeeze out of targets, so the fewer people paying them, the less  they make.  And that'll just convince them to get a real job.

one or more calls per day, starting 5 minutes after my new cell phone was activated.  This is a government phone.  I called the number, asked them to stop.  Registed with "do not call" list.  These calls continue.  I owe no money to anyone, anywhere.  Frustrating,.....

    Same,

Bell ExpressVu claims I owe them money for service and all the interest on the principle for service that that I did not get after a disconnect. It is money I would never pay because I do not owe a cent, instead I tell anyone that will listen that they are one of the sleazeist bunch of Pirates I have ever dealt with.

I have non-alcoholic cirrhosis which was not discovered until after I got my student loans and went to school. i had paid back both my loans by 50% by the time i had to quit...  my condition is terminal and every seizure I have risks my life by increasing the potential for massive body-wide systemic organ failure and neurological failure.  The collection agent I have been appointed is aware of this.

I was dealing with CBCL but now am dealing with FDR Ltd - Financial Debt Recovery.  I have spoken to Revenue Canada and have been informed that althought this is a legit company that there have been so many complaints on the 'net that they are considering them to be a scam company.

Who owns CBCL and FDR and iQor?  My debt is considered to be non-negotiable because I owe a bank; therefore, I am wondering which banks are involved with these corporations.

Odd fact:  I was dealing with a very nice agent and then got stuck with this jerk who has caused so many seizures I don't remember and have been hospitalized because of them.  He would not let me talk to his supervisor and refused to give me his ID code/operator number.  I finally spoke to the supervisor today and although the phone call seemed genuine, only time will tell...  but does a collection agency have the right to ask for medical records???

About the prank phone calls:  a)  a prank call which is answered provides the caller with information regarding when we are home.  b)  prank calling costs the companies money - although the agents are sadists, has the company really given them the right to prank call us and pay for it?  Is the information re: when we are available THAT important?

I do not yet have a trace on my phone line.  I am considering it and will see how the next while turns out.

This is definitely NOT a legitimate collections agency!!!!!!!
This is DEFINITELY A SCAM - people trying to CONVINCE YOU that you owe a debt.
They also TROLL these sorts of websites and post messages that make it all seem legit!!!
Please... Always pay your bills directly to the organization to which you owe money and ONLY when YOU have contacted the proper organization - not these people who tell you about a debt that they SAY you have. They may have found your name and number from a discarded bill or from hacking a company's client list or from outdated databases.
NEVER transfer money, bank info or credit card info to ANYONE who phones you! HANG UP! And report them immediately to the RCMP, PHONE BUSTERS (The Canadian Gov't Anti-Fraud Department) and the BBB, even if all you have is the phone number.
You can also contact your telephone carrier and ask them how to BLOCK THIS NUMBER from being able to call you.  The scammers will now receive a message that says, "The number you are dialing is no longer receiving phonecalls from the number you are calling from..." or something like that.  That's how to stop them from bothering you; reporting them is the only way that the government can keep tabs on them. Good luck everyone.

Yes, just contact your phone company to ask how to block the number. Or look on your phone company's website.  Usually there will be instructions there.

Also, you can buy phones now that allow you to block phone numbers directly from your phone itself.
Panasonic KX-TGA740C   I don't know if this model is still available.

Please report this number to the BBB (where IQOR has an A- rating!!!), PHONE BUSTERS (The Canadian Gov't's Anti-Fraud Division) and the RCMP.

    Good luck.

If 2 years have passed from the last time you acknowledged debt then you are free under consumer protection act unless a small business claim has been filed against you.

These pricks called me at 7am looking for Mariyn.  That is not my name.  The idiot calling me is some kind of bad french accent and is screaming on his headset for Marilyn.  They call here about once a month it seems.
I use block call for previous numbers but they seem to have several other numbers they use.  Next time I am going to answer " POLICE DEPT.  HOW CAN I HELP YOU??"  and see if this works for them stop calling me.
I am really p-ed off right now. I have no debts so why are they calling me.

I've been called three times now today from the same number and i think the same person.  They ask for Dave and I say sorry you've got the wrong number, no one by that number is at this number.  Yet she called back and asked for him again.  I missed the last call but if and when they do i'll get them to confirm my number is off their call list; the number i have i got from rogers which use to be someone else's and i get credit people calling me periodically looking for this person.  NOTE - for those of you who get these calls also - call your provider and explain the situation.  Ask if they have a forwarding number you can give to the creditors or even an address.  They wont give you that info but atleast when they call again you can advise the person to call the provider and to take this number off their list.  Its worked for me, minus this new number.  You can also complain with your provider is the charges for long distance are applied, because that happened to me also and they reversed it.

good luck - i'm not a fan of phone companies but they are a necessary evil

The companies need to collect or deal with customers properly. Practice is to just screw the consumer, pass on the debt to donkeys like you, who dont have any clue, and hope to make a living off other peoples misery. Hope you seen the light and found a real job.
