I got a call from 1-8883333474 and asked to pay rental surcharge amount for the items borrowed from Dish. I don't have any Dish or any dish network connection. Further they asked to confirm my personal details including last digits of SSN, How this is possible, all FAKE. Be careful.

I worked for XSatellite in it's hayday when it was using the 888-333-DISH number. I did my best to represent myself honestly but in the end quit because they made a rule that we had to collect your personal info on every call first thing. I felt it was dishonest to collect info when they thought they were calling the DISH and so quit after being reprimanded for not getting everyones info. I get that they were charged a good amount for every call (licensing the number) but it was a bad policy. I had great sales listening to problems and identifying myself as DirecTV before they purchased anything.
The warranty we offered was legit and a better deal than what they would get through directv. Our customer service was far better than anything offered through directv because we would hear the complaints and knew exactly how to get the best credits for our customers at directv.
It was mandatory for every customer to be told at least once during the call that they would be switching to DirecTV. They were given our names and extensions.
The collecting of information, while legal, since it was freely given, was a bad policy. And I'm sure some warranties were charged and reversed occasionally. As some reps would get a bonus anywhere from $50-200 cash a day for hitting certain targets. And if it was reversed they'd still keep the bonus. The majority of employees though were hard workers and would be entirely on the level with the customers. And there were many satisfied customers from our switching them from DISH. In some cases we even managed to get them out of contracts free to switch. Or at least get them a credit of $100+ on their 1st or second bill.
All in all, yeah it could be a bit shady, but the good outweighed the bad, at least in my experience. I heard though shortly after I left they quit the DISHeption and switched to commercial DirecTV sales.

    Fed up
Called them by accident instead of dish.  They got my name address and number before I could even get an address. The proceeded to try to sell me.  And asked me what would I do if I had a fire. I got fed up and asked to speak to a supervisor and he said I needed a good reason. So I said because my house isn't on fire.  He replied. Not yet.  Took another 5 mind for someone to tell me they are not dish. Completely unprofessional and completely rude and scary. Knowing they know my name address and number.

I'm glad I came to this site.  I don't have dish, or direct tv, and don't want it.  They called me today, but I don't answer numbers that I don't recognize, especially 800 numbers.  It sounds like the ones being offended the most is dish network.  They should file a suit against Direct tv for improper use of their number.
    • Caller: Not sure, but apparently it's Direct t.v.

    Hi Greenapple,
These people also call Canada from the same number...   If they were a true company, you would think that they would know
that they can not sell US Satellite service in " Kanada, Komrade. "
When they ask a Canadian for their SS number, we know for sure that they are a scam...   We do not call it by the same name.
We have also been trained from Birth, that the number is only for tax purposes and  that no one should give it to any Business
contacts.    If someone is collecting this number an also asks  for you birth date,   they have enough information to
submit a false  Income Tax  form and steal  your tax refund.

If they keep calling, why not just play with them and waste their time giving false information ...
If you can waste a half hour or more, so much the better for the rest of us.
If you are retired,  you should have the time for this game and help to prevent others from getting their calls.
If you can make them hang up on you,  you know that you have WON.
    I hope this is helpful

    Hi Well,
If you call an 800 number (which is free)   you can expect a hold  queue  lust like you get when you call a local company number..      Expect to wait at least 10 minutes before a real person  answers your call..
then expect to be transferred at least twice to the appropriate department.
If you get a real person  too soon,   they are waiting for you to call..     Companies do not have a  person at each phone
like a Maytag repairman,  waiting to pick up the phone...

Someone said these people are all over the states but let me tell you they are in Canada as well. I have not fallen for it luckily but I had another company calling me up to 10 times a day,I nearly lost my mind I am 82 yrs old and I have a broken hip, no cell phone so getting up to answer was awful. I finally bought a phone blocker and connected it up which was very easy and it's wonderful, most of the time the caller numbers show up on my TV screen, that's a service Rogers TV in Canada offer, it's free, so now I see the number and laugh it doesn't get through and the phone doesn't even ring. It has totally cured my problem and I have peace of mind. I think I paid about $50 for it and it was well worth it, it also shows the legitimate (friends, family) numbers that call and I ca answer those. If interested just google call blockers and you can find all kinds of them, I guess that's the business to be in these days. The Do Not Call lists don't work in Canada or the US so this is the best resolve. I love it. Good luck, since most of these numbers are not even real numbers or "spoof" numbers, you can't do much.

I read that the 888-324-3474 number is an intentional scam.  So is the DISHTV webpage I got that number from a scam also???  Also Dish claims to have 24/7 service.  [***]!!  I've called 7 different numbers and all say I'm calling "after business hours".  AFTER?? At 7 a.m.???  The 888 number is a porn chat line.

They claim to be doing an update on dish receiver saying it’s because of 5G and new satellite takes 15 minutes and they ask for pin to confirm updates, but okay with you not knowing it. If you give pin they can access you dish account so they know when you started your account, they can cut your service and change programs. Basically your 4 digit pin gives access to you account to make changes and terminate your account.

They call back stating my receiver isn’t compliant with new equipment. They said they could offer me $40 mo off bill for the next year which they said save $480 but I would need to pay $380 within 5 days of the update. They told me if I don’t get update I will no long receive service from dish account closed, which they apparently use PIN to do. Told them need to think about the money then I called dish.

Dish stated scam call they do not call and software updates are done at night as part of service. They recommended if you get call to call dish so they can note it in your file to protect you in future. To be safe I changed my pin and security information and have it so my account will go to fraud department.
