- tcspecI got this call on my cell phone. And pressed the "refuse" button. Never have inquired about a degree or job. Am past 70 years old.
I suspect this is a "fishing" expedition for cell phone numbers and according to past posts emails as well.
Some companies just robo call to see if a live body answers their call. They don't care if it is a land line or cell phone number. This is probably the reason for those of you who have answered or returned their call for having long wait times.
I have more than one email address for those sites that require it before letting you go on with their site. This is called a "must fill field" in computereze.
I use my "junk" email address for places like this. I also use an old land line phone number of mine for this. The phone companies usually wait a very long time - with no activity showing - before reassigning the number.- Caller: IDK
- leeI used to work for this co. the best thing to do is to answer the call and ask to be removed from the calling list. and it will happen.

i hope you die horribly in a house fire - SamboSearch4degrees, if that is who all of you are getting calls from, is an service that matches you with colleges. Its not a scam, although the way they get a hold of your information can be a little iffy. Some popular ways are:
Job searching online (you enter information online searching for jobs)
Free gifts and prizes (you enter your information to get a free ipad or something like that)
Searching for grants for school (etc etc)
Actually looking for information on school
There are loads of other ways you can put your information online without realizing what you're doing. There could be no mention of schools at all or it could be flashing in neon colors in your face. When you enter data online you are also typically removing yourself from any nation wide no contact list you're signed up on, which makes you free game for any companies your information might be sold to. And if you're putting your information up on anything like what I mentioned above your information is being sold, multiple times to multiple companies, such as search4degrees. Are they scams? Sometimes, not always. Are they annoying? Yes, definitely.
For people who swear up and down that they have not entered anything online period and you have no idea how they got your information, the simple answer is someone put it in there for you. Maybe someone who thought they were funny, or someone who you made mad, whatever. Maybe someone just entered a random bunch of numbers and it happened to be your phone number. There's lots of ways its done and that's the bottom line.
One thing to keep in mind is that every time you put your information on the internet and its sold multiple times to different businesses that is going to mean numerous calls from that one time you entered your information in. If you applied for five jobs online, or filled out information for five free ipads or something like that, and then your information is sold to three different companies, each of those three companies has your number in their system five times and it is considered five different leads for each of them.
So you have 15 leads floating around out there with your name and number. We'll say search4degrees is one of those companies, they call you one time and you tell them you're not interested. That lead gets blocked in their system, but you still have four more calls coming your way from the same company because saying you're not interested, or to take your number off their list, is not going to get you removed. There actually isn't a whole lot to be done to get removed. What you can say is "Put me on your do not call list." And you have to say it like that. No "take me off your list," or "put me on your no call list." It won't count. That means that anytime your number comes up in their system it is blocked by their software and you won't be called. They can't block your number if they don't know what it is, so your number has to stay in their system so they know not to call it ever again.
So if you tell search4degrees to put your number on their do not call list, that's it. They won't call you again, even if you accidentally put your name on the internet again and they buy it, they have a filter in their system that will watch for that number and will make sure its not called. Of course all bets are off if you change your number, but that's going into the "fool me once shame on you," bit.
One truly annoying thing though, is that there are numerous call centers that operate under different ownership under the same name. A call center can be making calls for multiple different companies. they aren't the company itself. They're a group of people who are hired a minimum wage to work while they're in school, or because they never went to school, or because they had too many kids to be able to do anything but work in crappy call centers, etc. Basically, normal people. If search for degrees hired 100 call centers throughout the United Stated to make these same phone calls, each of those 100 call centers has their own internal do not call list, because they aren't search4degrees, they're just calling on behalf of search4degrees. Its a rough cycle.
The thing to remember though, if you don't want what they are trying to give you then they don't want to talk to you anymore than you want to talk to them. They don't want to hear why you're not interested, they don't care about your previous school experiences, and in all odds they won't be able to answer any questions you have. They either want to ask you their questions or they want you off the phone. They would rather you be abrupt and to the point then hear any kind of wishy-washy explanation. Just say "Put me on your do not call list." The beauty of it is you don't even have to verify who you are. They'll just pop your number onto the list and that will be the end of that. You will probably still get calls here and there from different facilities under different names, but just keep saying that and all your leads will eventually be blocked.- Caller: Search4degrees

- MJ| 1 replyHey guys. Search4Degrees gets your number from you entering it in different places, mostly job boards. The phone operators, like myself, who call you are just doing our jobs like anyone else. we have no clue who we're calling or if you're actually interested, we're just following up on numbers that have been submitted to us and get harrassed by many people each day because they mistakenly enter in their information in the wrong field. so please remember next time you decide to be cruel, we're just doing our jobs.
- rosethey call several times a day....it gets old,,,you can't even sleep they call morning an night
- javier59lock this number
- RachelThe name of the company is Search for degrees, it is a marketing system for online or college degrees. Most of you probably tried to vote for something or some type of info like that for them to get your number. It is not a collection agency- so no worries.

- useurbrain replies to destin ronjust because you have your number on a do not call list doesn't mean that people aren't going to call you when you put your number on the Internet once you have put your number on the Internet anyone can call you because you ask them to call you by putting your number on the Internet so don't do it anymore and you won't be b******* about your number being I do not call list and having some fun but no one's ever going to see because it doesn't qualify it doesn't work because you put your number on the Internet common sense
