- Caller: Benuck and Rainey
- Pay your bills| 1 replyEveryone worries about collection agents calling and "stealing" their minutes. If only they were as worried about paying their obligations in a timely manner.
- my nameWell, it might be something if they were calling ME for collections. But they ask for other people. This chick Kerry at ext. 135 called me the other day asking for a friend of mine. How the hell did they get my number. 'Cause I sure as hell know she didn't talk with them.
- IPAYMYBILLSIf you can't pay for it, don't buy it!!!
- PAY YOUR DEBTS replies to Paige| 1 replyIf you pay the debts you make you won't get calls from these people...
- SaraI have recently been getting calls on my cell phone from this number. It seems like this is a common tactic. Is this company just calling random people hoping to get someone stupid enough to give them money? I am positive this is just a scam! In my voicemail message I say my full name. They have never asked for me, always another name. The first and last names they ask for are completely different from mine and most of the time they are calling for a man. I'm female! I am glad I found this website because on my cell phone the call shows up as restricted so I can't get their number. In their voicemail messages they garble the number so I can't ever get all the numbers. I think this is part of their scam. If they actually left a real number I might be able to report them so they try to make it hard. Very annoying!
- mine replies to Paigelike omg dont answer the phone. hhmm maybe check your voicemail from another phone you sound like my technology illiterate mother...get over it
- Jen| 2 repliesYou should be keeping your financial records for 7 years back (depending on your state laws). You should be able to easily tell whether or not the debt Benuck & Rainey is trying to collect. They may in fact be a legitimate collections agency, but they're also the second agency to try to collect a fake debt from my company. They've called and sent letters saying we owed on an old One Communications account, but when I called One Communications they said there was no balance and furthermore that they do not use Benuck & Rainey for their collections. If you find the debt in question is false, you should report them.

- sean replies to Jen| 1 replycouple of things.
1) if you're getting calls for a friend or a relative it's because when they opened their account they listed you as a contact person so the company is trying to use you to find them because THEY GAVE YOU AS A CONTACT! Just answer the phone or call them back and politely explain you haven't talked to or have no contact with that person and to please remove you from their calling list.
2) They don't listen to your VM message, they're on "predictive dialers" which is a computer that keeps calling and when they actually get the call it's normally past voicemail so they have no clue what your voicemail said.
3) it's very common for a company to show a zero balance on a bill in collection, it's because companies write-off their bad debt which zero's out the balance. Also, it's not uncommon for a collection agency if they "bought" your debt rather then just working on commission to re-sell your debt.
example: you owe $100 to XYZ and XYZ after taking their own measure to collect feels they never will, so they sell the debt and collection1 buys it for say $30.00 after some time they decide they can't collect and then they sell it and collection2 buys it for $10.00
the collection companies hedge their bets on buying your debt at a fraction of what you owe and hoping they can get you to pay in full.
Some work on a commission or a collection only fee... which is where you'll see your debt increase with collection costs and such.
Also, I do find it funny how many people don't seem to read here... the person clearly said it's not their debt and they're calling for someone else yet people respond "pay your bills and you won't have any problems". - KratzI think the most aggravating thing is the restricted #, and their attitude. If you call them, they will probably push and push until you give in, paying them something. I think collection agencies expect us to fall into poverty to pay those bills. I would love to pay my bills. I feel so overwhelmed with so many medical bills I don't know where to start. I pay a little here and there to the original medical business I owe, but I absolutely refuse to pay collection agencies.
If I talk with them, I tell them exactly that, and mostly they say ok. The business I pay sometimes says it's not their bill anymore, they've written it off. I tell them I'm paying them, I apologize that I haven't been able to pay you, but I refuse to pay the collection agency. You can do what you want with the money Benuck& Rainey is a new company we haven't dealt with before.- Caller: Benuck and Rainey

- Nire ener| 4 repliesBenuck & Rainey Inc is a legitimate collections agency. They do not buy their debts. All of the information and phone numbers they have are provided to them at the time they receive the debt. If you call the original creditor, they will probably tell you that there is a zero balance because they have to do a charge off to place it in collections. Also many of the entry level customer service reps at the creditors office probably wouldn't know which collection agencies are used. If you feel you do not owe a debt, submit a letter in writing as well as via fax and most collection agencies will address your concerns. If you aren't the person they are looking for, pick up the phone and tell them so that they can remove your number. Most likely the person they are looking for used friends or family for references or alternate contacts. Try to use your common sense before you get pissed off at a collection agency and make yourself look like an idiot. Pay your bills or if you don't owe them, send in the documentation supporting your claim. Otherwise, it only negatively impacts you.
- Nire enerOh and as far as why they leave such vague messages, unless you give them permission, they can't leave the details as to why they are calling (exeption being if it is a commercial or company debt). And doesn't that protect us? I know I would not want everywhere they are leaving a message to say that I owe money, would you? Call the collection agency and work out a payment arrangement. Most of them will work with you. Most Agencies that do not buy their debts, don't and can't put a charge onto the account. If there is one and the agency has not "bought" the debt then the original creditor added the fee and you should not be angry at the collections office. I worked in finance and we used collection agencies quite often. All were very professional and treated our customers great.

Odd ... the message that I just got from this number was to call a different number back (888 697 5566), and she left her name and extension ... but not the name of the company. She said it was regarding a "personal business matter." OK, so I'm going to call them ... be right back ...
-----------
(I'll post this under the 888 number, too). As it turns out, it was for someone with my same name. Once I told her the last four digits of my SSN, she said it was a different person and apologized for calling my cell phone.
BIG SIGH ... bad business practice to call everyone with the same name when you're trying to collect on a bill! There are many other people in the country with the same name as mine!!!- Caller: Benuck & Rainey

- informational replies to Paige| 2 repliesI do believe if they call you TWICE within (1) one day ....even though it may be (2) different representatives calling they can be fined. In the State of NH (the last time I knew) up to $10,000.00.
- "Ben" Called replies to Nire enerYou state "All of the information and phone numbers they have are provided to them at the time they receive the debt"...I do not agree as most or all go farther. The information they are provided with is just a stepping stone to get relative's information..numbers....etc. they trace and thier business (collections) is to find the person to pay the bill.
- Nire enerAlot of the #'s are provided by the original creditor. Very rarely does a file get sent over without the original creditor doing the research. (why would you use a cills toons office, and pay them, without doing everything you can to get the money yourself?)
