LEGIT - and I can prove it:

I was with Alltel, which was bought out by Verizon. I signed into "My Verizon", and had to change my password and update my account information. I immediately got two text messages:

"Your password for My Verizon has been changed. If you didn't request this change, call us by dialing #WEB from your cell phone"

    and

"VZW Free MSG. This confirms your email address was created or changed. If you didn't request this change, call us by dialing *611 from your VZW phone"

"*611" is the Verizon customer support line (if you dial from your Verizon phone). You can verify this by visiting http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/contact/index.jsp

    TRY THIS:
You can also check by dialing "*611" on your Verizon (or Alltel) cell phone - but don't hit "Send."  You will see that *611 is already recognized and stored in your phone book as "Alltel Customer SVC" or Verizon Customer service. Your phone will display this. Don't believe me - check for yourself.

Also, the first contact in your cell phone is probably the customer service number, which you can't delete. Look at it - you will see that at least one of the numbers is *611

"#WEB" is their "Login Assistance" number. I have no proof of this one. I always just use *611 to access my account, and they can transfer me from there.

Received two texts from this number today stating "Your My Verizon password was reset..."  I know this is a spam, I am on a corp. phone and do not have access to the account.  Never reply or call #WEB!  They will get your info!

Do not be fooled! You call Verizon from your cell phone by dialing 611 not *611!

Received a text message from number 900080004000: "VZW Free Msg. This cell phone number is now unregistered from My Verizon. If you feel that this is in error, please call customer service."

What does this mean?? I suppose it's a scam after reading everyone else's comments about this number.

I registered my phone on Verizon's website and I recieved my conformation from this number.
However, I think Verizon is having problems with their servers sending the wrong messages to people.  I am getting spam texts from their 80001000100 server number and can't seem to find a way to block it.

This is the number that shows up for free Verizon text messages. These messages are meant to be a courtesy for the customer containing information regarding your account with them. They send it to your phone to be sure that you are the one making changes and not someone trying to commit fraud and tamper with your account. If you recieve a message from this number stating that changes have been made to your account information and you did not initiate the changes, I would contact Verizon immediately.
