They keep calling my workplace looking for someone who has not worked here for many years. I finally called them back and firmly told them they are calling a business number. They were very pleasent and say they have removed my number from there list!

well.. they called me twice in two days. i called back privately, once and the second time i spoke with a "matt". i was asked my name, after saying my name, i was told a weird name they were looking for. i said that wasnt me, and said "maybe we have the wrong number", and hung up. i think firmness is key,(if its a cell-phone number they're calling) and you'll be left alone.

yeah thats been happening for the past month. person keeps calling at first it was actual people i kept on asking them what the call was regarding and none of them would tell me. so i told them to stop calling and he said "im sorry thats not up to you to decide" what is up with these people how can they sleep at night harrassing people all day long.i work for a research company so like surveys but at least we have the DECENCY to take them off the list. these people are dumb i wish there was some way we could shut them down.

I am getting the same thing as everyone else.. It has only been a couple of days, but it's driving me nuts! The first time a wierd message was left like the one BOB mentioned. Today they called 5 times, all hang-ups when it came to voicemail. Except for one that I answered and it was a recorded message telling me to phone another number.
Agh.

They have called at an office numerous times as well stating that no one has returned their call and without the return call they are taking it to next level, they don't listen when you say you don't know what they are talking about and then they will even fax you the same

These idiots keep calling even though they are calling for someone who is deceased...and I have provided them with 5...yes that is 5 death certificates to prove the person is dead.....

I called them and got a very pleasent young lady. Once I maintained the conversation control, very important with collectors, I found out they were looking for a "Sheryl". Seemed to understand and admitted they were fishing.

This number will call and leave a crazy message and then a few minutes later, I get a call from 905-413-8577 with the same thing.  I have an unlisted number so WTF?  I do not have capital one or verizon as stated on another thread.  I will not call them back and wait on hold.  Can it be blocked?

they've been calling four to five times a day for a while now...still don't know what it's about or how to get them to stop.

I received two calls from this number today, and it would just repeat "Press one for English", followed by a beep. I called to enquire and, while I had to talk to 3 different people, the first two were polite and the third one agreed to remove my number from their list without any fuss. Total time on the call was under 5 minutes.

I just got this call as well. Went to their website and wrote this message:

<<Stop calling me. I don't know who you are looking for, but I do not owe anyone money: I do NOT appreciate getting calls from a collections agency. I am writing to have my number removed from your list. It is an unlisted, cell phone number. I haven't had this number very long, so my guess would be that you are looking for the former user of this phone number. If calls continue, I WILL contact the police and the better buisness bureau (BBB). Regardless, I do not answer long-distance calls from unknow numbers. After recieving two phone calls today (and others previously) I decided to do a 411 lookup only to discover that you do not list your number (how ironic). I couldn't help but notice that fishing is a regular practice in your company. I don't know how legal that is, but I promise you that I will contact the BBB if this continues. Please have someone EMAIL me back with a follow-up to this email. I will not answer any phone-calls from you (unless you agree to pay for the phone call) As it is, I think I should be compensated for the abuse of my time and your blatant disrespect (not to mention your apparent lack of anything resembling manners)>>

I suggest that other people having similar problems leave similar messages.
Also, I phoned my telephone company and notified them of my problem. This way, if it continues, I have documentation that I tried to resolve this

YOU DO UNDERSTAND THAT ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS CALL THEM BACK AND ASK THEM TO REMOVE YOUR NUMBER. YOUR PHONE IS PROBALY A RECYCLED NUMBER AND THAT'S WHY THEY HAVE IT ON THE SYSTEM.
I CALLED IN GOT A NICE LADY ON THE PHONE AND EXPLAINED THAT I HAVE RECIEVED THIS NUMBER ABOUT TWO MONTHS AGO. SHE REMOVED THE NUMBER FOR ME AND I HAVEN'T RECIEVED A PHONE CALL SINCE.
IF YOU GUYS DON'T CALL BACK OBVIOUSLY THEY'RE GOING TO KEEP CALLING YOU'RE NUMBER. AND THERE'S NO NEED TO BE RUDE.

just an fyi, by law, they can not call your cell phone, without your permission. you should remind them of that

I received several calls for somebody else from this number.  
When I called back, I found out that it was a collection agency called Global Credit & Collection.  
I found there website ( http://www.globalcollection.net/Consumers.aspx ) and contacted their main number.  They told me that they would remove my phone number from their files, and they did.

I called and politely asked for me to be taken off the list. They complied. It's annoying but easy to take care of, kind of like taking out the trash. End of story.

I've been receiving these calls about the same time as I got my new cell phone. I had called them back at one point 2 yrs ago as they were calling for some guy I've never heard of. They never once informed me who they were and were so extremely rude to me. I asked to be removed from their list since I don't owe money and I don't know who they are looking for. I was basically accused of "hiding" this guy from them and they were actually threatening. The man asked me the stupid question that if this wasn't the guy's phone nber, why would he give it to them. Duh! Unfortunately, they are harassing me. I kept asking to have my name/# removed from their list and he finally said that he will have it removed. That was 2 yrs ago and I still get these calls. I have since moved and changed numbers but that hasn't stopped the calls. Even though they are traced to Global collections, this should be illegal to harass innocent people. Unfortunately, in Canada, the police say that we are "allowed" to be harassed once a day = well, more than once a day they consider to be harrassement.
I receive many calls from a whole bunch of different numbers which when I look into are *ALL* traced back to Global. They don't stop. And they don't remove you from their list...at least they never did with me even though they said they did as we were talking. This is just wrong. Don't answer any phone numbers you don't know on sight, is all I can say.

They've been calling me everyday as well. I called them back and a lady verified my number and I confirmed I was not the person they were looking for. I've had this number for almost 11 years so someone messed up when sending 'accounts' to these people.

identified themselves as Global (just global) Recoded message to say the holder of the phone may be In posession of property that doesnt belong to them and to hold the line.  
Global is in posession of my property, being my phone Number and harassing me, despite being on a do not call list.
