Got a call from them this morning. Lady asked for me by name and told me that she was calling from amazon.com and asked me to verify if I made any purchases recently. I said yes, then she said that the purchases would be authorised and said thanks. I asked her if she was calling from India and she said that it's the call centre for verification, based in India. She didn't ask for any other personal information. I think it is legit. I made purchases last night (on amazon.com) and my card wasn't charged until I received this call.

Here is my 2 cents: I got a call from this number 3 days ago, then 2 days ago, but the caller ID said Amazon.com. I don't have an account with Amazon. I have never used my phone to contact them, my number should not be with them. I order through my boyfriends account. So I have to question if its actually Amazon...

After contacting amazon, they said they had no such thing as a fraud prevention department from india and that it was a phishing attempt and not to give them any information.

I just received the same call. I then called my credit card holder to make sure there were no pending charges and It was a one dollar hold on my card with amazon. I then called amazon and verified the phone number and they said it is not them. All I can say is watch out is a scam. scam scam

I just had the same thing happen to me, and I agree, the phone call was a little strange, but I called Amazon after reading the comments on this page and it was a legitimate call. They have a call center in India, if you don't believe me, call them for yourself. Don't believe all these people saying that these calls are a scam, they are real.

They always call my cell phone and Skype number. Same stupid kid calling.

Called me three times in a row while I was at school today. I couldn't care less of who it was really, and reading these comments I felt like calling in and asking what they want from me.

I was told "you will be called when we need some information" and then was basically quiet the rest of the time and said goodbye.

A minute passes by, I call back and ask him why is this line not generally going to an amazon line, as in the automated voice system and he's like "ok?" I ask him if I am correct that it should go to one, then he started acting like he couldn't hear me after I kept repeating myself. Called him a [***] and a [***] marketer, then hung up.

Can say that was a fun call.

Me fiancé did receive a call from this number today. I immediately thought it was a phisher and contacted amazon myself just in case as they did have the last 2 digits of her credit card correct. I asked him what the card number was in question but gave no other information to him. It turns out  Amazon does have a fraud protection call center in india as well as seattle. Sadly the accent and the over seas number sends red flags to me. This was a legitimate call and they informed me (when speaking to a rep in seattle) that they do not email the customer in this case as they want to make sure that they get the correct person and if it is a fraudulent charge that the criminal in question could intercept said emails. I personally feel that this is fine as long as the number at least registers as a amazon number and not some unknown number in india. The charge in question actually was a legitimate charge by my fiancé. We were able to sort it out but i was leary of the whole situation.

They called with the Indian accent saying they were Amazon.com and were trying to verify an order of books.  My Husband had not ordered any books and then they tried to get personal info.  If it was really Amazon they would have all the personal info they needed.

I received this call this afternoon claiming they were from Amazon and wanted to verify my amazon web service details for fraud prevention and to confirm payments for services.  I didn't give out any information as it screamed a big red 'phishing' scam to me.  I said I didn't know if it was really Amazon and was there a number I can call back on as I wouldn't give out my information over the phone, especially on an inbound call.

The number they gave me to call back was +918033273000.  I did try calling back the original number +918067873000 and there was NO ANSWER.  I called repeatedly trying to get someone to pick up, but no answer.  I will keep tracking this number to find out where it's originating from and SHUT THEM DOWN AND GET THEM PROSECUTED!

How they got personal information from Amazon I do not know.  It concerns me that they got my cell phone number and know my name.

I called Amazon in the USA, they told me they never ask for personal information either in email or over the phone.  They also don't make phone calls in relation to accounts via the phone, they will ALWAYS email for account related issues.  I work in television news as a director and this is definitely a scam.  I'm passing the information on to the FBI in the United States, the AFP in Australia, as well as the Media in 3 separate countries.  Do not give these people any personal information.  I don't know how they are getting personal information from Amazon, maybe someone who works at Amazon in India's back office is corrupt and feeding information to scammers.  Expect other replies here to claim it's a legitimate call from Amazon.  It is not!

Garbage, if they have your credit card details already all they need is your address, phone number and depending on the payment gateway a CVV number.  This is a scammer trying to continue scamming others by saying it's safe.  It is not.  Do not give your personal information out over the phone if you have not first initiated the phone call to a known legitimate number.  Never give out personal details on inbound calls.

Got call from this number asked me to verify address for order on Amazon.  Gave emloyee ID no. as 916160 and nititxum  Called Amazon; gave number and ID; Amazon states call not from them.  Called Closeout DIscounters (one TV on order) and Beach Audio (other TV from Amazon order).  Beach Audio closed on weekends.  Closeout Discounters sent email that they don't know who this is.  Order for TVs place on American Express.  Called them also.  They don't recognize this number either. AMEX stated they think this is phishing attack for infor.

I got a call from this number and was like "I don't know this number." They called 4 times in a row, so I decided to lookup the number and found this website. I read some of the comments that said it was Amazon Fraud Prevention. So I answered it and sure enough, it was Amazon Fraud Prevention asking to verify the Shipping Address change for something I ordered. Good thing I looked up the number first and answered it. I might not have gotten the item I ordered by my birthday.

    spammers-must-die
In this case, absolutely NOT a spammer.
This IS Amazon Fraud prevention (purchase verification). I just made a large purchase including a flat screen tv and within 10 min, calls started coming in. As others have said, I ignored at first, but the dialer kept  dialing. By the third time, I'd  googled the number,  & found here, that is IS Amazon, and answered.

The woman (Bangalore India call center), asked  for me by name, I said yes it's  me. She asked if I'd recently made an amazon purchase including a tv.  I said yes (still a bit nervous). She knew everything that was in the order, and I assume it's her judgement call as to how much info to ask for to verify.

In my case, she just asked me to verify the shipping address. I  did and she she said " ok, yes, fine, I will approve the order right now".  That was it.

Please folks, I think I know why some get these calls without having ordered anything. Folks who have ordered something but don't  feel comfortable giving amazon their number, make up a phone number.
Then the call center, calls it, and it's the folks posting here that they never made an amazon purchase.

I'll admit, I often give a 'fake' number to companies that require a phone contact, for privacy reasons. I gave amazon my number because I signed up for text alerts to track ALL my amazon orders, which btw, works great.
Since I know for a fact this was a legit call to me, I have to assume the posters who have no idea why they were called were victims if you will, of others giving out "fake" numbers for the reasons I  mentioned above. The system is automatic, and simply dials the number that was given to it. There is nothing nefarious about it. If a  false number was given, then the system is going to call that number, plain and simple.

But I WOULD ABSOLUTELY SAY, if you DO get a call, and you DIDN'T make a purchase, you should absolutely check all your cards, to be safe side, and monitor your cards carefully for a week-ish. When you catch anything illegal quickly, it's usually very easy to "fix". Discovering it 2 months down the road, imho, it's always been harder to fix.

But this IS amazon's purchase verification call center.

Just had a call from this number - it was a lady asking me to verify a very large purchase that I made on Amazon last night.  She confimed the item description with me asked me to confirm that I had made the purchase - nothing further, no personal details or account information.

Keep getting calls on my mobile from these jerks. However, this is a first for ringing my landline. Didn't answer it and they rang off but only after they persevered for 30 seconds. Obviously, a determined little critter.

I just got this call from a man who sounded like he was from India too. I was kinda cautious since my debit card was hacked into yesterday and all kind of things were purchased from it. My bank caught it and cancelled the card and sending a new one. So, I guess someone tried purchasing some $200+ watch from Amazon today and he told me the last two digits of the hacked card. I told him it was right. I told him I didn't order the watch and he said to let my bank know it had been hacked. No kidding.
