There are a number companies who troll Monster.com and CareerBuilder.com and then send out B.S. "we've found your resume" eMails and phoneCalls. I updated my CareerBuilder and Monster accounts this weekend, and started getting eMails offering my jobs in insurance sales almost immediately--and they're still coming.

Almost all of the jobs are coming from State Farm, All State, and Farmers Insurance.

Because the economy sucks, and the insurance industry are bottom-feeders, just like the insurance industry did in the last depression, they'll dangle hope to desperate people offering them commission-only jobs with promises of "$100,00 a year!!!".

In the depression of 1932, when people were literally starving on the streets of the U.S., they guilt-tripped men into buying burial insurance so, "at least your family will be taken care of." When someone actually died, they were often penniless--finding out that the insurance was either completely worthless or worth only what was paid in--minus a withering array of "administrative charges."

Ordinarily, I'd say something like "Have they no shame!" Unfortunately, I already know the answer.

Jerks! (Would REALLY prefer to use a more accurate phrase)

i did some research on this number... i traced it to Liberty National Life Insurance Company. i'm not sure why they didnt just say that-my guess is because they dont want you to think they're trying to sell you life insurance. i think they're trying to find employees... if you are interested, go to their website to learn more or find your local branch and call them.

I got this call. Put in my zip code and they gave me an address before going to a recording. The tag line "Opportunity of a Lifetime" rang a bell when I saw one of the companies at the address was Liberty National Life Insurance Co. Because I have spam from them with the same tag line. a little searching to be sure turns up their website...

    "The Opportunity of a Lifetime!

There's one company dedicated to helping you realize these and many other worthwhile goals - Liberty National Life Insurance Company

Liberty National presents what could be the biggest opportunity in your life. It could open the door to an outstanding income and a whole new lifestyle. We rely on proven methods.... blah blah blah more drivel"

little more searching turns up their parent company based in suprise surprise.

Got a call on my cell phone at 6:00pm from 972-200-9825, left a message that they received my resume and would be interested in setting up an interview.  Told me to call them back at 888-673-4109.  No company name or anything.  I live in the Dallas area and have sent no resume to any company in Seagoville TX where this number comes back to.    Bad feeling that this is a bogus type of situation.

Same recorded message as the rest of you.  I posted to Monster.com yesterday and have THREE contacts from insurance companies already.  I'm graduating in December, and I didn't go to school to sell insurance!

Got the womans message and thought it was unusual the company name was not addressed.  So I did not get much of an interest in calling back right away... before I googled the number to see if it was a legitimate contact....
I won't be calling back the number....

I got a call from this number on 9/2/10 at about 1800. my father and i thought it was odd that they wanted to discuss an interview with me but the first words NOT out of their mouth was the company they where calling for/from. i have yet to call them back but i did notice that this had happened after i had posted my resume online ealier that day on careerbuilders.com. this is the only site that i have my resume posted. Has anyone ever called the better business bureau to verify this "companies" number?

If you go to the NY Stock Exchange website and search for Torchmark Corp and then go to their website you will see that Liberty Natl is a subsidiary of theirs. They are legit!!

In this day and age of techology you would think that people would do a little research online before going beserk over a telephone call??? I just did a reverse lookup on the number and I found Liberty National???? People get a life!!

"Liberty National: via computerized voicemail.  They would like to set up an interview, blah, blah, blah... I don't recall applying at their company!!! They may have snagged my info from Monster.com.  But I NEVER contacted them.  Period.

I'm not sure if it's for real or not, but I tend to NOT trust a computerized message regarding setting up an interview.  If that's the warm, fuzzy, personal way they treat their perspective employees... I wonder what they do to their real employees...

Push 1 if you have just been hired, push 2 if you have just been fired, push 3 if you have not received your paycheck this week... (well, it could happen...)  I'm just imagining here.

They are sleazy bottom feeders that typically use desperate GED level achievers during a good economy, during a bad economy or an employers market they target naive college seniors or college grads who can't find work.  Liberty National is sleazy as hell. They make you pay for your own license!? What a joke, a huge joke, no "legit" company hiring you out of college for your degree's sake will make you pay for anything !ever! In "legitimate" business the practice is to have the employee expense it, not charge them for their own training, I'd be interested to know if Torchmark Corp sees any revenue from the testing process, or testing material. Now, if they do, it's technically legal because they probably structure it as "this person is an employer, but more importantly is a 'self-employed' person that's part of a 'franchise' whom we share liability with"' (that's also how they'll rationalize it to their target while telling 'lotto stories' about all the super successful people that did the same) so they don't run the risk of getting pegged for being a giant MLM scheme.

Remember everyone, if a company trying to hire *you* wants you to pay for ANYTHING up front or later on without having set you up with an expense account first, run! Its a sign that they're either an MLM or they have such horrific turnover rates that they couldn't afford to run the business otherwise.
If the company really cares about it's employment process they'll have a real HR person work the phone only, not a machine that apparently phishes/webcrawls job boards, that is a huge red flag and is total BS.
