So now when they keep phoning they asking for him and they even said they were gunna just keep phone to wind him up. My dad is not very well at all and had morphine pumped into his body b4 he left the hospital 2day so he felt really drowsy and needed to have a sleep this afternoon but he never got it because of this [***] thinking its really funny to mess about. Now they have phoned up the phone company they are with to have this number blocked.

Not sure why this number is used by any criminals as it immediately makes people suspicious (as does 111-111-1111). Have to assume that it is the only thing technically available to this group of scammers. Others would just spoof the number (i.e. make it seem like it comes from another number). Perhaps they are from off continent.

Also - it is not just one scam that is being run off this but many and likely from different scum criminal groups.

Here is how it is for me... No phone number, no caller ID...no answer from me.

I don't answer landline calls any more, they go to answerphone and if a message is left by someone I know I will reply. Downstairs phone turned off so only the upstairs phone rings 4 times !

I receive calls daily from this 0000000000000 number. The guy has an accent. He states that he is calling on behalf of Dell Computers. Then he goes on to ask me to turn on my computer because he received a message from my computer and wants to help me avoid getting a virus. I told him that I am aware that this is a SCAM and that I will contact the necessary authorities to deal with him and his company. Well, that didn't stop him, they continue to call my cell phone daily.

This long string of number of "000's" started calling my mobile yesterday, 3 calls so far... It rings a couple of times, but I do not answer it... I hope it is not going to go on too long... rather pathetic actually, that this type of caller wants to waste life in such a ridiculous manner.

Just rang again... Well, I hardly use my mobile, so will switch it off now until I want to use it or expecting a call, so maybe it will remove itself from my number at some point... As far as landline goes, I only use that for my broadband and found that to stop those kind of calls, I have unplugged the landline phone and again only plug it in when I want to use itor expecting an incomming call... I also do not answer a number unknown to me or call it back or answer withheld etc etc... It's rather a sad situation to have to adopt, but it is the only way I can protect from ID theft and the such and be able to have uninterrupted day sleep as I work nights!

I had a call saying someone was trying to hack into my computer. He had an Indian type accent and very difficult to understand. He wanted me to switch on my computer and he would then solve my problem. When I checked, everything seemed perfectly OK . I ignored 2 further calls the same evening but did check it was the same number. I reported it to Talktalk.

I am a computer tech.. and they tried it with me also.. for a bit of fun and to help me understand my clients frustrations .. i let them.. i had an old safe machine for this type of thing sat in office.

They will ask you to look at the EVENTVIEWER for exclamation marks or crosses.. if you find any, which of course you will, they will ask to remote you as they can sort out your "serious" problem.. as i had a machine setup securely and not on my main network, i let them.. it was then they conveyed all this [***] about its very serious but we work on behalf of Microsoft etc etc..

It is a very common problem, lots of consumers get suckered by this scam.

First of all they have remote control of your machine.. what you dont see is what they have access to in the background.. ie they could be on phone to you, you see arrow moving around etc.. however they have access to all your files and may be introducing a virus or a backdoor to your machine for future use or just grabbing your documents etc.

Secondly, when they do ask for a payment, it usually turns out to be a small amount.. DO NOT GIVE ANY DETAILS ..for example in my case "we as professionals can fix this for $10" ... hmmmm .. sounds like a small amount ... BUT THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH PC  !!!

They will also try and ask you for an email address ..so they can continue to try and scam you with other offers etc..

I did not pay of course and It was only when I then started asking them some very basic tech questions that they hung up on me.. maybe i should try and ring them back and see if they had a problem with there PC!!!

They all work on VOIP phones that are NOT trackable, usually working from INDIA, however BEWARE.

I recently have had clients informing me of similar scams that seem to be from UK. with no foreign accents etc..

I hope this helps to keep people informed with this major problem.
