I got disturbed from a nice sleep with a call from this number this afternoon... A male with Asian sounding accent telling me he had good news for me... I questioned how he got my number as I have it listed as 'Do Not Call'.. He said 'I'll tell you how I got this number but do you want to hear your good news?' I said No and that I wanted to know how he got my number... He told me my ph no and also my postcode in Queensland.... He went to tell what he'd phone for but I told him I was annoyed he'd woken me up and I was very tired.. He said 'Have a good evening. Bye'.
This is not the first time I'd had a call from this number. I've had a few over the months.. Many don't respond to 'hello' however one other time there was a women at the other end... She mentioned something about my computer, so I told her I don't own a computer. (I reported to the police who gave me a ph number to contact to report scammers. As I was almost caught out with that once before. They phone making out to be from microsoft and are letting you know that a virus is showing up in their computer room as about to hit my computer but they can fix it... Then they get access to the computer and then tell you there will be a charge and want you to access you bank account... I stopped before I accessed my account. I'm seriously thinking of investing in one of those loud horns to blow down the line.....

Just got called by this number, thought it looked weird so didn't pick up..am In melbourne but originally from Scotland, it 02;29am there now. had similiar weird number call last week when googled said it was in Italy???

In Sydney.  Been getting late afternoon / evening calls from this number every few days for a couple of weeks.  No one there - or they just hang up

call from this number claimed to be from australian government but were calling from india and were offering 5000 government refund as a way of obtaining bank account details

+61011976000 called my skype number at 4:59am (yes AM) this morning and then again at 5:10am. Too early and too damned rude.

The number they called is only publicly available via a website for an organized event that happens in Melbourne – a very random way to find a contact number. It's a skype number and therefore not listed anywhere and is not one to be found by software that randomly selects number from the multiples of lists our phone carriers make available to just anybody and everyone.

Just found this on Facebook - Beware of the phone number 0011976000. It has been confirmed as a south east asian call centre where the callers on the pretext that your computer is faulty get you to go to their online site to download a patch to fix the issue. Of course you are downloading software which steals pretty much everything on your computer. You can register your phone number with www.donotcall.gov.au

Everyone please be careful it's HACKERS! I got several calls from a crazy Indian hacker bragging to me that he has hacked me & will hack me! He also tried the windows technical telephone SCAM.. I played along with the IDIOT AMATEUR then told him where to go then I reported it to police. Please do not fall for this scam.

Looking back at this comment thread I see that this has been going on for at least a good 5 years. Why isn't this number on the no connect/no contact list for Australian telecommunications.

This number rings through at least once per day some weeks, a couple of times others, or more than once a day on occasions, its just a scamming annoyance. The only time I answered was to respond to an asian/indian accented male suggesting they were responding to a Microsoft computer problem report I had sent for assistance.

I said a) I am the only person here and b) I sent nothing. Still not interested in disengaging, he continued to inform me I had and they would fix it. I said I sent nothing, I am not experiencing problems and I dont want a conversation regarding it. He got quite agitated at this point and kept pushing to engage me whereupon I advised him once more that I did not call or electronically send for any IT assistance, that I didnt have a problem and that he should desist from pushing the topic as I was done with the conversation and was hanging up. I hung up on him prior to his next attempt and have not lifted the phone since to this number.

I worry about the poor souls who are not so aware or firm in their actions with these fraudulent scammers.

I am worried more about the lack of action by the lazy Australian Telecommunications Regulatory body that just sits on its hands with these frauds and criminals.

I am also not surprised with the amount of firepower Microsoft has, it hasn't had this scam which is being operated in its name, traced and shut down in some capacity. Ive dealt with Microsoft IT and they are not anything like this and have more hoops to jump through than a dog at a Best In Show competition!

I got this too, they said they were calling from Vodafone & they wanted my business email.

I answered and they knew my name. I think the girl said she was Jenny (had a foreign accent) ringing on behalf of the Australian Federal Government as I was due to receive an amount of over $5000 (can't remember the exact amount).  I told them I knew it was a scam and never to ring me again.  I was sorry that I didn't ask more questions, I wonder how they got my name and phone number?

I live in Australia, and I got a call from a friend in Argentina. He was using a phonecard. When I checked the number it was 0011976000

I rang back and it rang once then hungup.

got a missed call from this number last night. I live in Nsw Australia. our number is silent and on do not call register  

I am receiving these calls (@ Sydney) since December last year and latest 10 minutes ago.  very frustrating and cant ring back to shut them up! most of the time call drops and no one answer any!

This number keeps calling my mob I get aprox 10 call one after the other I get a few days in between the calls the get bombarded  with them again please can you help me stop this number calling mobile
