this caller rings persistently every day on numerous occasions

Has anyone actually managed to STOP these idiots calling. If so, how? I'm a Virgin UK phone customer. I'm getting these calls v. frequently, with the number withhled. I blocked anonymous calls thinking they would stop. They have keot ringing, but now they are revealing their number - 00917024122123.

They always ask for Mr Williams (generic English name?). They will not give up. So, what's the next step?

got a call from this nunmber, someone advised me he was ringing on behalf of (sounded like)Fiji-Asda! that my number had been picked at random and I could have a free mobile phone. I told him I already had one and he ended call quite politely.

I rang BT as I am ex directory and have telephone preference service. they advised me to ignore it, that a computer finds the numbers randomly for the people apparently ringing.

Just had a call from the number saying I was eligible for a free mobile phone (another variation on the same theme?) - not the first call either. Told them they had rung a Police emergency line - never heard anyone hang up as fast in all my life!!! The TPS and Ofcom say they can do nothing about them since they are outside the UK..!!!!!!!!!!.

So I add my name to the ever growing list.  My turn just now. 15:20 on 19th Jan 2008.  We have been so plagued by calls offering loans, mortgage etc. thet we no longer answer the phone and let the ansafone take the rubbish.  Last Saturday was at least a dozen calls and always no number available on 1471. Today though 1471 revealed this number and I glad I did the internet search and founf this message board.  The phone company can't help with blocking, so what can any of us do!

phone rung at 9.30 am i answered it no one spoke initially, i was about to hang up when someone spoke but as soon as i asked him what he wanted he hung up. how do these firms get our phone numbers?????

I am with the TPS also. I have had three calls from this number on the 7 Jan, 8 Jan and then the 17 Jan 2008. The first time I told them to take me off their database and was really annoyed. The second time I didn't speak when I answered the phone, they didn't say anything at all, but hung up! The third time, I just said "Hello" and then didn't reply to anything else - they hung up!

If they ring again, I will lead them along and waste their time! - but never saying Yes or No!

I have had calls from these number about 5 times in as many weeks. The country code is India. it may be a coincidence, but the calls started soon after I had called a a helpline with Uk numbe, but it was a call centre in India.

Call at 10:30am this morning from a guy saying he was from "N squared" customer service - so I just hung up. Have posted here before, but thought it may be worthwhile posting again.. I have three lines, and they usually phone the other one about half an hour later - A bit sooner today 10:45.. I hadn't even finished typing this post!!!

These idiots do not give up. Three calls last nite. Told them I was a chinese takeaway - they ordered food. Told them I was a nuisance call  bureaux, they tried to sell me insurance. Told them I was a bank, they tried to sell me a loan. I give up. Virgin want £25 to change my number! Call barring, TPS, anonymous call rejection - noe of it works. What a pain in the a*se

Has ANYONE stopped these calls?

Just had a call from this number, which i did not answer as the number was reveiled. Judging by the above comments i am glad that i did not answer them....saying that they would probably given them a mouthful back .

Its a nuisance when you are in the middle of doing something which you have to leave to get to the phone only to see so idiot calling you.Can nothing be done to stop these callers?

I've just had a call from this number. We are a business, and answer the phone accordingly. As soon as I finished call opening, they hung up! So glad I just typed the number into the search engine and did read this as I was going to call it back thinking it was a friend calling from abroad!

i got this number ring me today and wondered who i was, did 1471 and thought it was a strange number so googled it, then i found this site, wish i could stop them!

Had this number call at 1750 hrs today.  Didn't answer as it is our tea time but after doing 1471 I checked on this site and found all these other comments.

Just had yet another another call from this number> If the person or computer voice prompts you press certain number keys on your phone - BT advises to hang up as you will be charged.

from 19:30 this friday many phones in our company went into overdrive from calls from this number. its imppossible to work as there is noone else around to pick up the phones so i began to answer them. i get all of the above and it seems that answering the calls triggers more to come through :(

and yet again another!! Its getting a pain - As someone asked on the 5th Feb, has anyone stopped these calls?

I had exactly the same as "Kay" above.  They claimed to be from "M Squared" or "N Squared", asked if I had a mobile phone, and told me they had a deal with Orange mobile.  I reported them here http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/ but I don't know if it will do any good.

IMPORTANT:
If anyone else gets another call, claim that you are interested in the offer, and see it through until the point of purchase, so that you can find out how they transfer funds, and arrange contracts.  Also, try to work out exactly which mobile phone companies they have relationships with - this may be useful, as the TPS might be able to threaten the UK branches of the mobile company?

BT say they can't block an international number.
