I had the same call telling me our home computer was infected with a virus and that the HD would only last 2 weeks. Wanted me to switch the computer on so that he could help me get rid of it. I said I could not work the computer (I use a mac) and he very quickly said that he could help me. When I said that I needed some verification that he was who he said he was and that people do not just ring up out of the blue to 'help', what did he get out of it? he quickly put the phone down on me!! Beware do not fall for this 'help'!!

I just had a call from this number.
    "please can I speak to ** ******?"
    "Who's Calling"
"blah, blah Microsoft. i need to talk to you about the computer you are using"
    "I don't have a computer"
    Caller Hung up

I obviously do have a computer but said I hadn't as I never trust talking to foreign callers that I have not dialed (Particularly Male Asian)

I phoned Talk Talk & they were very helpful. They suggested paying £3.25 per month to have this number barred from ringing my house. I refused to let them cost me any money. I have caller ID so I just wont answer to that number (or if I answer they will get some abuse !!)

By the way - to phone Talk Talk you have to dial an 0870 number which costs at least 10 p per minute.
I always use a website called "say no to 0870.com" it gives you the alternative landline numbers which then should only cost you your normal phone charges.
    You can also look up other numbers beginning with 0500 / 0800 / 0808 / 0844 / 0845 / 0870 / 0871

To phone talk talk 'high level complaints' is  01604 548372

Talk Talk also recommends that anyone receiving these calls reports it to the police. They will try & get the conversation through to getting you to log on to a website of theirs (saying that it will fix your computer problems) they get you to log on & their software to scan your computer, it is actually scanning your computer for credit card details

Beware ........ tell them to politely "go away" (or maybe you shouldn't be so polite !! )

Similar experience to others - the Microsoft/problems/help story. Strange that my phone was able to identify their phone number! Their called also helped solve the problem of a previous call which simply left the message "Goodbye". Why doesn't registering with the telephone preference service block these calls.

Have had calls from several of my clients from this number, and all these customers are either talk talk customers, AOL or Tiscali.

Spot the issue, they are all owned by Talk Talk (Carphone Warehouse) and there call centres are based overseas.

There has been a lot of information about this and information has been suggested that Talk Talk has a leak in their call centre providing them with names and phone numbers.

I am an ex AOL customer and I got a call, told them I was an IT Consultant and that they were talking rubbish told them, if they called me again it would be a police matter.

CAB advises that anyone who has had a call from this number should call the police and report it as a scam.

It has started again had a speight of phone calls last year from this foreign person quoting he was phoning from microsoft that there was a problem with my computer.I know for a fact it was a scam as Microsoft would never contact you by phone. Now it has started again I have had 3 calls in 3 days, saying the same as last year.I am now going to get in touch with the police!!

I have found a good way to get rid of these people.

Each time they start talking, start coughing as loud as you can down the phone.  When they stop talking ask them to repeat themselves.  When they do, start the coughing again.  Keep doing this until they disconnect.

When they will again, go through the whole coughing thing again.  Eventually after 3 or 4 times they will stop calling.

This has worked a treat, I haven't had a call in 2 months....

A lady friend told me she tried this, but screamed instead of coughing and that seems to have worked as well.

An additional benefit of doing this, is that at the end of each call, you will feel good and the caller will have a headache......

Had 7 messages on my answering machine, no message left just "Goodbye" (recorded voice) after  approx 5 seconds. Received 1 call this morning but no response when I answered. When I returned home after going out to do some shopping there was another message following the same pattern on my answering machine.  I've tried to call the number but it rings out using 1 ring (like an internal call from a switchboard etc).Unsure what to do. The number is 012127773019

Had more phone calls from our foreign friends all along the same line as the above mentioned post's,it is a scam,it is good when you string them along for ten minutes though pretending you are doing what they are asking then informing them for the whole time they have wittered on that you actually havent touched the computer, for some reason they seem to get rather assy and swear a bit then hang up,dont know why!!!!!!!

Had a phonecall from this same number today and immediately clocked on to it as a scam. Do not give them any information or co-operate with these people and make a report to your local police using the non-emergency number for the local office.

Yep same as many above Company IGlobals with an "s".   Number was private though.  Wanted to get me to check my Windows event viewer which I did (for giggles) and saw all these "events" that he explained to poor little old me (unfortunately for him not everyone is computer illiterate), asked me how many critical events my poor old machine had suffered (31,000) I told him about 20,000 and he says "how many!,ooohhhh nooo this velly bad, our technician is busy now, umm, writing something down (some poor idiots credit card number prob?) so I will get him to call"
    I said "I'd rather you didn't"
    He said "pardon?"
I said "Please make note somewhere there never to call me"
    "Pardon?!"
"I said, I don not want anyone from there to ever call me again"
    Long pause (priceless)
    "ok...." end of call.

Had the privilege about 20 mins ago of a rather annoying gent with an Asian accent telling me he was calling from a Technical Dept and that my PC is flooded with viruses and is sending it to their PC's and that he needs me to go online so one of their engineers can fix it.

After asking him several times what firm he was representing, he finally told me and I really could not make it out because he said it so fast and so muffled that it was impossible for me to understand what he had said.

Apparently my computer is struck with the 'Blue' virus, well thats a lie because the person he had originally asked for was my Gran. He did not realise that my gran is 89 years old and in hospital and has never owned or used a computer but this didnt stop him.

In the end I had to cut him off and told him to stop talking crap and not phone me again otherwise I will be reporting him to the police for harrassment.

He had withheld the number so I dont know who/where he was phoning from.

Have had several calls off of this number claiming that my computer or my partners computer are infected with viruses. Each time i have explained very clearly that i built and maintain my own systems and am fully capable of removing any viruses that may have infected any of the computers used in my household. I also told them to remove me from their database as it was getting to the point of harrassment the amount of times (at inappropriate times) the house was getting called. This request has not worked and I am now looking for a way to bar them completely from calling the house.

Had the same Indian chap ring me up two days ago claiming to work for Microsoft IGlobal. He informed me,like the rest of you, that my pc was infected and if i didnt act fast, all my information and details would be accessed and my computor would crash. At first i was unsure....but worried,so i followed his instructions, turned on my pc and accessed my event viewer(eventvwr). After informing him i had over 4000 critical errors and warnings,he went mad and quickly called over the technical engineer(who was making shocked noises in the background)....it sounded too rehearsed and i soon realised it was a scam.He wanted my credit card details so i could pay £64 immediately for the problem to be fixed. After a lot of arguing(they dont let you get a word in edgeways)he agreed to do a one of payment of £47.I told him i knew it was a scam,to [***] off and never ring again.I am now waiting for him to send round the "heavy mob"......these people should be stopped....NOW!!
