Pensions Scam Warning replies to exie dive
23 Feb 2013's MoneyBox BBC Radio 4 Programme continued to discuss the ongoing Pension Liberation Scam with the Minister responsible for pensions, Steve Webb. Listen to the grilling the minister gets and how little the government is doing despite the £4 million a week being scammed.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01qspjg PENSION UNLOCKING
For the third week we return to the growing crime of persuading people to transfer their pension savings into recently registered pension schemes and taking huge fees for illegally letting them have some of their money back. This week - the legal aspects. Is the law adequate to help trustees stop the transfer when they suspect a scam? And if not, will the Government pass new laws to protect desperate people from the crooks - and themselves? We speak to a pensions lawyer and Pensions Minister Steve Webb.

guy calls from this number - 0123456789 ... it looked suspicious ... said he was from Microsoft ... he was obviously calling from India and really struggling with English ... lots of call center noise in the background ... he was watching me on my computer and they were receiving a lot of notices at Microsoft about corrupt files and errors on my computer ... he was going to solve those problems by selling me a $150 virus disk ... BEWARE! ...

This call was a scam from an Indian bloke pretending to be from Rolls Royce technical dept, and looking for computer details, having claimed my computer was sending them messages.
The call was 8.15pm on a Saturday

Wow, that's a new one.  So Rolls Royce are into computer repairs now!! Must be more profit in it than in their beautiful cars!.  If these scammers were not trying to get into our computers to install spyware/malware they would be funny. Even the stupid multi scam phone number doesn't show any imagination.

They called me the other day but I didn't get any response when I answered. They called again this morning and it took a second to get a response, then it went something like this:
Guy (seeming East Indian accent): "Hi this is ______ from technical support"
    Me: "Really? Which technical support?"
Guy: "For your computer. For Windows."
Me: "Ok, what's wrong with my computer?"
Guy: "I'm from Microsoft and we are calling all Windows users..."
Me interrupting: "Um no. Microsoft couldn't possibly call all Windows users. The only people who would do that are running a scam. Good-bye." Click
I can't believe there are over 25 pages on this number alone, dating back more than two years.

The answer to why this scam is still going on, is that the calls are from India.  The numbers are fake via Skype so can't be traced.  Luckily about 90% of people are aware that neither Microsoft nor its partners would ever 'phone.  However, the scammers rely on scare tactics and lack of computer knowledge, so elderly people can be caught.

I got calls from another number a few years ago and it is the same people. They say they are from Microsoft but it is a scam to get on your computer. I reported the number to the police and they told me they use a number then move on to another. I just tell them that I called the police and they are tracing my phone calls and they quit calling me for a while.

Yep, I get this call 3 times a day and I wont answer it as I know its ID. These people are idiots but they must dial a lot of numbers and people actually answer it! I think it is nigh on impossible to stop this sort of activity and I have warned all of my friends.

    Cheers
